An idea. If it is listening to itself, in environments with speakers:
1)Emit two signals, specific length, pitch, and volume as set up.
2)Listen for these signals, identify them. Using their properties, find out the volume, and the delay.
3)According to the above, from the sinewave you get from your microphone subtract sinewave produced by speakers, according to known volume, and delay.
We even know how to eliminate background noise, sadly the technique is patented.
