  • A huge majority of people on this entire planet are either overweight or underweight. No one will ever be a the weight they should be for their certain heights. It's called human fucking nature people get over it.

  • I am so with you girl, you're so right.

  • I will disagree w/ that comment on morbid obesity, plus I hate that term obese, it like calling a homosexual a faggot ,it is very derogatory! Anorexia can also be induced due to emotional trauma and one loses their appetite. The word Anorexia means to be w/o appetite. My friend lost her life at 32 yrs. old from complications of anorexia, she was anorexic all the way thru high school. It's NOT always because your fat, it also has genetic components as well.

  • @MultiMeli123 To be honest, obesity can be gained from emotional trauma as well. Feeling like you have nothing, then trying to cling to something substantial and consume large amounts of it. The thing that most would cling to is food, because as the poster mentioned, it's a world of plenty. We have amazingly large amounts of food, and it's pretty easy to get your hands on lots of it, if you look in the right places.

  • while I agree, obesity is a disease every bit as much as anorexia, calling it "gluttony" as a blanket statement isn't terribly fair or valid either. If someone is a compulsive overeater, they are basically the same as a bulimic, they just don't throw it up. It's a psychological issue, not just that they want all the food around them.

  • thats really true yeah why dont they recognize that being overweight is a disease its a lifestyle choice and a bad one it does have heart disease and stroke your right it is commen so many people have it but peole that have eating disorders are the oens that get down.... they have places for ed's people with those go to hospital why dont they make fat people go there?? they are so fat they suck and are stupid its such a disease that they dont realise it

  • @TheStonerFace If we were 2 put overw8 people in2 hospitals as U suggest then we need 2 build a crazy amount of hospitals. I admit I have some excess weight on my body but I will certainly not have my excess w8 being treated as a disease. It is a slower process than having 1's stomach stabled but I'd rather do it Susan's way than the hospitals way.

I do agree what Susan Powter says that it's a disease of / from glottiny and that its not a regular disease disease.

  • @VelvetGold18 it is not from gluttony, obesity people can have very serious metabolic diseases that prevents them from losing weight, Get a clue do not listen to everything you believe, if she a doctor? If not do not listen.

  • haha , you come up with a good point! It sorta made me laugh at the irony. People who are most worried about anorexia are people are usually the ones who are over weight!

  • Anorexia is a disease too, but I understand what she's saying. People look at anorexia and go "oh my god thats so horrible" but at the same time, on the other end of the spectrum obesity (which is also a disease) is frowned upon but often generally accepted. If you compare the number of anorexics and obese people who are sent to rehab there are far more anorexics. Yet the risk factors as far as health goes (though they are different risks) are of the same severity. It's extremely one-sided.

  • I hate anorexia!

i don't know how girls want to be a skeleton ...

    they are tags...and nothing more..

for example i'm slim but i eat everything and what i want.but my metabolism is good so i'm happy.

I think we all should stop this.

    i'ts not normal.

  • I'm very sorry for you :(

    God Bless ♥

  • well then i guess it's a good thing you sit behind a computer watching videos on youtube to change the world.

  • no one wants to be anorexia. it is a way of coping with life. you will never understand unless u suffer from it. there is a cause behind it.

  • @dreammyrainbow Mine was caused by control issues

  • ... Exactly.

  • wow your not fat so you dont know what its like to be concerned with your weight

  • do your homework...susan powter used to be really fat

  • you don't know how they feel... it's hard and it's not only that we wanna be thin, it's so much more, i had a lot of problems and then started starving myself. I thought I was fat and had to punish myself. Today I know why I did that. But I thought I was the ugliest person in the entire world. It's stupid to be anorexic... I hate Anorexia too and I don't understand the people who say it is a lifestyle...

  • Im skinny..very skinny...I ate a lot but not weight gained..My metabolism is very fast..I don't know how I can get weight...

  • all forms of eating disorders stem from the same thing, low self esteem and also depression. what about men though, they don't have nearly the amount of preassure that women do to look good. these things are puzzling.

  • EXACTLY

  • Yes I agree Susan! Very well worded!

  • I have listened to this video twice and I'm still trying to understand the point you are trying to make in this video... Both obesity and anorexia nervosa are problems in terms of health risk for those who suffer them. Just as anorexia is related to emotional undereating, obesity may result from emotional overeating - though not always. Anorexia nervosa is not an epidemic; obesity is. However, the death rate in anorexia (>1 in 5 sufferers) is much higher than that in obesity.

  • Anorexia Nervosa, and the "Pro-Ana" information has, however, greatly increased over the past 10 years. So many people do see it as a problem, and that is why people are coming out to speak against it (in an attempt to nip it in the bud.

People are coming out to try and stop it from getting any worse so the amount of sufferers, and the amount of deaths due to anorexia Nervosa stay low.

  • It seems like your saying that anorexia isn't a problem. America condemn's all eating disorders. Anerexia however is more irreversible than being obeist. Serious things such as bone loss, muscle deteriation and skin deterioration iare irriversable. Anerexia effects mainly the female adolecense. A time where proper nutrition is essential, many functions as well as developments can not be produced after a certain time frame. Anerexia is a problem, and it's not only the obeist population that agree

  • susan you are increadible. someone had to have the guts to say it for everyone to hear. i appload you.

  • Thank you so much for saying this! people need to hear it! :) hell I needed to hear it.

  • both are bad!!!

the right thing is to have a healtly diet. :)

  • You're hot!

  • obesity isn't always about eating. me for example, i'm not obese, but i'm fat but that's not because i eat all the time. i don't eat barely anything. i was really sick when i was about 12 and they put me on steroids, and all these meds. that's what made me gain the weight. and i just recently stopped taking the meds, and i'm losing weight. but, all i'm saying is not all obese people gained weight from eating. that's a stereotype. i hate it.

  • MOST people are fat because they eat bad or eat too much. Less than 2% of overweight people are overweight because of their medication or hormonal issues. That's a medical statistic right there. I had hypothyroidism for the longest time and was still in the normal range for my weight. Sure it's hard to keep weight off when you have meds or hormonal issues, but it's not impossible.

  • I agree :-)

  • This is an interesting observation, and one that should be addressed. I believe the attitude is different because of how one gets in either predicament. People see obesity as you had just too much enjoyment, you just love to eat and can't control yourself. They don't see it as any deeper than that, they don't see the cycle of how people who are heavy are viewed and how that perpetuates overeating. Anorexia is seen as sadness, deprivation but thats unfair because anorexics love to not eat.

  • Anorexics don't always love to not eat. They're too afraid of not being perfect which makes them feel like they cant and shouldn't eat.

  • Jleigh225, Anorexics don't "love to not eat". They would LOVE to eat, and feel normal, or feel good about it.

You think they like the absolute agony they put their bodies through? No... They trick their minds into believing they like the pain if they are lucky enough to have the ability t do so.

    Research...research.....research before you speak.

  • I guess love is a strong word, but do they enjoy the feeling of control it takes to fight the urge to eat? Do they like the feeling of watching others eat while they have the "power" not to? Of course, otherwise it wouldn't be a satisfying coping mechanism. I understand the disagreement, but the point I was trying to make is that people who are overeaters are just as miserable in their eating habits as anorexics but yet they are judged differently and that is not fair.

  • sooooooooooooo true

  • totally agree with you mam.

  • i agree 100% with you

  • i agree

  • well you are certainly right about one thing, obesity is just as bad as anorexia or any other eating disorders, because it's the main cause of many preventable illneses

  • That was a really good analysis of the

topic, escpecially beacause they are both diseases that are polar opposites to the extreme, balance and nature is everyhing.Eat healthy natural foods in balanced portions and u will be healthy and thin.

  • Quite frankly, I agree, I think that anorexia and obeisety are both very dangerous, and are cause for concern. They both kill, and its scary. I have a weight problem, but I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired, and my addiction to food is now being overpowered by my desire to be healthy and fit. I'm now on a healthy eating plan, and losing weight. Also doing toning exercises and cardio workouts. I feel MUCH better and I'm just done being fat. Thin and healthy, here I come! lol

  • Congrats to you. I have the same mindset now and am working towards being healthy.

  • werent you on the simple life?

    With Nicole & Paris?

  • i love this.

  • I do think she knows what she's talking about. It pretty straight up. I do often here women that are large.. saying "she looks like she has anorexia" more often then other women. There needs to be a balance. We eat too much in this country. It's almost like we're in fear we won't have enough to eat in one day. It's gotten seriously crazy. There's not enough emphasis on small portions. PERIOD. Instead .. we're diet crazy.

  • but its not invincible to rapid frequenct changes habits are good if you just bounced around without settling into grooves in life you would burn your mind, body, and soul out.

  • I just warn all out there take lifestyle changes gradually. Its the desire for overnight success that I think drives anorexia and many disorders and when they get a little success in this case weight loss they run with it and keep the bad habit alive. I would have to admit what happened to me was not by chose and I guess as an anorexic captive its different than if I had made the choice. Just to everyone in what you do take your time. The body adapts

  • I agree!! when people get extreme motivation which is good, they become anorexic over time.

  • I lost a lot of weight and it shocked my system to a point that I couldnt properly digest my food after that experience I cannot bring myself to understand an anorexic person ... but I rather the world have more anorexics if I had to chose between them. For they are less of a resource dump. I found my weight gain in the end was from knowing I was overweight and not eating enough and not often enough. I guess my mistake was eating too much too often too soon.

  • I didn't understand anorexia until i got it myself. I lost 40 pounds in 1 and a half months. You really have to have anorexia to understand anorexics

  • Definitely agree with you there, Susan. You remind me so much of my sis. She loves making very bombastic points that many people are afraid to even touch. By the way, in alot of ways, I am you when you were an overweight housewife. I may not have the cheating husband, etc... but physically...that is where I am at. I know most of your story, I think. It's been a few years since I read one of your books that talked about "the prince", etc...

  • Well done

  • So if obesity is gluttony then anorexia would have to be vanity right?

  • Sometimes yes sometimes no.

Please note that not all anorexics are "dying to be thin".

  • Thank you finally someone gets my point!

  • you have such a strange but cool talking voice

  • yep, thx to cigarettes.

  • i know im gonna sound like the many other girls who ask "how do I become anorexic" but really, how do I? This is pathetic to cuz I am SOOO aware how sick that is, but the problem is, a solution seems outta reash right now, so if I had to choose, Id rather under eat than binge eat which I do(binge). I am also a recovering alcoholic w/ 4yrs sobriety and so I know you cant choose your diease, but God I wish I could! Not that either would make anything better so who am I kidding. Its pointless.

  • Anorexia is a mental illness. An OCD. Obsession. Habit. These things fuel it. How one develops it is something else entirely... there are many causes. It's also not a choice, but in a way it is. I knew all of the risks of an eating disorder, and still developed and anorexia nervosa.

  • you " like totally" don't eat,or just barely eat.simple.

  • I agree with you, although I don't know if gluttony is the right expression.. Anyway, I suffered from slight to extreme obesity my whole life until I underwent clinical treatment. In the last months my problem was about to turn to anorexia until I got more help. The only difference is how people cope with things. Some binge and gorge, others binge and purge or starve themselves. But actually it's only two ways to deal with your problems the same destructive way - over nutrition.

  • thank you SO much!! this so needed to be said! i am so sick of the attack on anorexia. has anyone ever stopped to wonder where this disease comes from? to me it seems like a retaliation against a world gone hugely obese and sickly in the process. you rock susan!!!

  • There are starving children in this world and these selfish people stuffing themselves until they cant walk. (and then some of them purging) is very gluttenous

  • Amen! There's always talk of obesity as a genetic condition. It is not genetic. Look into a shoppping cart of someone who is obese. Any juice, fruit, or water in there? What you will see is soda, chips, snack cakes, and processed food. You gotta move, you gotta eat whole foods, and you gotta breathe.

  • OMG!!! SOooo true!! I went shopping the other day, trying desperately to get as much as i could for 11 dollars and here comes Fatty McFat Fat and her 2 enormous boys sloshing down the aisle with a cart FULL and I mean FULL of shitty food. And here I am with my 2 kids practically starving!!

  • It's freakin' crazy. I especially like the looks I get when I do happen to look at their cart and they catch me doing it......I get a look like they just smelled onions or something. That always kills me....fat parents with fat kids. If the parents want to be fat, fine. Don't let the kids be fat.

  • You have such a fabulous tattoo!

  • She needs to get her thoughts together first. She had a point she wanted to make but she contradicted herself half way through and in the end I'm not sure what she was trying to say.

I think it would be good to have morbid obesity be treated seriously and have some real strategies to help people. Most people are average and lazy. You can't really change that for them.

I was morbidly obese (190kg) and am now muscled 100-105kg. I've been through that journey.

  • Not EVERY obese person is obese because they eat too much.. why does everyone think that?

  • its not eating too much. its eating selfishly, and poorly. that is what she means by gluttony. we (we as in the US UK and other privileged lands) eat as if te world is ending, on a daily basis. we have the option of eating 1,000 calories in one sitting and do it without realizing. it may be a small meal, but it packs a mean punch.

  • Not every obese person has a poor diet and/or doesn't exercise. I see the same number of people practicing those things that are thin as I do who are obese. Genetics plays a huge role in how well your body metabolizes your food. Some thin people can eat all day long and never gain an ounce and some fat people can do everything 'right' and never lose an ounce.

  • Thank you! im so glad someone said that.

  • this so makes sense. preach it, baby! haha

  • when I was 18 and my mom had told me about you and I had watched a video you pretty much changed my life. I went from 256 pounds to 135 in less than a year.

  • I get upset with half the people on youtube who post bout having an eating disorder. Like its fun and sexy... I feel bad for the poor little girls who watch them...

  • you should rename this "anorexia vs. morbid obesity"

  • Hey, I know that obesity is a disease. I went to hospital because of it. But voluntarily. It's exactly the fucking same thing! I go to hospital because I cannot loose weight alone and it's connected to a thousand phsychic issues. And anorexics go to hospital because they cannot overcome it and it's connected to a thousand phsychic issues. It's even as hard to cure as anorexia...

  • she makes total sense considering she's discussing such schizophrenic subject matter. She's passionate about it.She speaks directly to it. A huge problem is that many of those affected with the self-induced "food syndromes" are far too gone to understand logic. Cancer..Aids..The Flu..diabetes..are diseases. You don't "catch" anorexia, you choose it. You've been told it's a 'disease" for insurance purposes(money) It's actions are " disease LIKE" keyword being " LIKE" but it's NOT a disease.

  • Have you ever personally suffered from Anorexia?

How can you say that it is not a disease?

How can you say that people who have it -choose- to have it?

People with Anorexia do not make the choice to become Anorexic. It's a menetal illness and people suffer so badly from it.

  • People who are anorexic do not choose to allow their brains to distort their body image for them. There are alot of issues that go along with anorexia and it is indeed a disease that requires medical intervention.

  • so who's,what's in power of "their" brain that makes them have distorted images ?

  • No one is really in control of their minds. Body Dismorphic Disorder is like any other mental illness.

  • it's a condition caused by not eating that turns into a disease "like" disease. you stop eating on your own accord, you eat on your own accord. If you stop eating it will result in this affliction. we need to take responsibility for things WE do,which is very hard to do when we've been told "it's not our fault" If a mosquito bites you that's kinda hard to control, the "disease" malaria may occur, not at one's OWN hand.

  • So many people don't consider obesity an eating disorder. I can understand how people become fat. It's not just that they are disgusting people with no will power, but people who are troubled and need to get to the root of their issues so they can stop the cycle with food. Also, people are very quick to judge an anorexic. I'm a recovering anorexic. It is an illness that often times needs to be addressed psychologically. People who haven't experienced it need not be so quick to judge.

  • Morbid Obesity is due to gluttony because we're starving to death nutritionally and spiritually. I stuffed myself to 400lbs and was terribly malnourished. Eating foods full of nutrients and life brings real satiety and stops the gluttonous binges. Trust me. I know. Thanks Susan!

  • Don't you think Susan, that "They" want to keep Americans obese, so we'll need to buy all those prescription drugs to treat all these medical problems being obese causes?

Isn't that why they STILL put all that shit into the food, food manufacturers and Drug Companies working together to keep us all addicted and sick.

  • i see it the same way!!!

  • preach it

nobody realizes that obesity is worse than anorexia by far malnutrition is better thab chokin gon your own fat ass and having a stroke plus if your to skinny

its easyer to fix and better on your body than being a lard ass

  • No need for names...either way...one is not worse or better, this isn't a fight...it's a discussion...a truth that when faced things can change or, not....what it isn't not here, is name calling...

    Susan Powter

  • @hershygirl What the fun!!! You are telling this to someone who lost a friend to anorexia. Both lifyles are unhealthy. This may be a 2 yr. old post but I'm commenting! The next time you post get your facts streight. lack of nutrioton can cause strokes! (remember Terri Shovi) Hair loss, reanel failure, electrolyte imbalances, fluid retention, confusion & even delusional states of mind. Next time u post get your facts right first!! So u don't look like an idiot!

  • Gluttony?? Perhaps in your case when you were obese. Some of us happen to know larger people with medical issues unrelated to how much they eat. Oh and I happen to know several thin gluttonous people too. I like you Susan but you're no medical expert.

  • 1% of the population has a "medical reason" for obesity...I'm talking about the other 99%...

    Susan Powter

  • That statistic is very off. There is really no way of being able to know how many obese people suffer from a medical condition that causes their weight gain. On top of the fact that so many people, obese or not, are unable to afford medical insurance to even visit a doctor, there are also doctors who dismiss obese patients with genuine medical concerns and tell them to just lose weight. There are also many new medications out that are prescribed, that have the side effect of weight gain.

  • @SusanPowter Even less than 1%!

And I have hypothyroidism myself.... but I'm careful and I'm nowhere near fat.

  • @SusanPowter

you can't really call obesity a disease of gluttony. that's like calling anorexia a disease of vanity. anorexia and obesity can be caused by many different things. for example I know two different girls that were molested when they were young teens. one turned to anorexia to "protect" herself, stay a small and child like so it wouldn't happen again, and the other turned to over eating to hide her body under fat and large clothes so no one would want to touch her again.

  • EYE OPENER FOR ME. THANKS!!!!! :)

  • Susan, I like your thought process in this video clip. I appreciate it. I, too, utilize my mind power thinking outside the box. Thanks for sharing your uncommon insight...and I greatly enjoy your diction and vocabulary.

  • Thank you....boxes that, when thought about, are easy to see beyond..

Tell the world, it's the truth..

  • So nice to see someone realize obesity is a dangerous disease ! Funny how ppl take anorexia seriously but not obesity ! we're in a mixed up world.

  • Yes, mixed up, overfat, unwell...and, what a perfect state to keep people in...too tired to stand, too sick to make a move...exactly where they want ya...

    Susan Powter

  • oh sooooo true ! The weaker and sicker we are the more submissive we are. Very sad. Evil, I tell ya. Just plain evil.

  • A terrific way to control the masses....

    Susan Powter

  • Susan, your statements are valid. Anorexia and obesity are the same problem, a disease of excess. Morbid obesity is primarily a disease of gluttony but one should also keep in mind that there are many contributing factors. I believe there is a major misconception that if someone is overweight or obese, they must eat large portions of food or if someone is thin, they must starve. Not necessarily the case!

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  • Well said, Susan. I want to discuss. Keep discussing. Thank you for this. meltingmama.typepad dot com.

  • I'm sure the ratio of obese to anorectic is ridiculously disproportionate. Some of the attention payed to anorexia is because it concerns thinness and is considered a disease of the young. Thin and young equals sexy in our world and sexy gets attention.

  • I want to discuss!!!!!!!!!
