Space Hog?? Space Hog the Band? you know, the singer from that band is married to Steven Tyler's Daughter (Liv Tyler), & I really liked the work that Spacehog did when they were together, like In the Meantime & Mungo City, Space is the Place, they were good songs...me, personally, I'm 25 years-old now (it's end of April, 2011 right now) & I've played guitar since age 2. My dad's played guitar since 1962, I'm WAY-into Guitar....
This is the last gearwire video i'll watch. It's like they try to get on your nerves by acting stupid. And why are they reviewing music gear when they can't even use the gear?
If I may say, you can get a Zoom G2 multi-effects pedal that you can pre-program many effects, and it's battery powered (as well as 12V hardwire), it also has an headphone jack, 40 drum loops, and you can connect it directly to the computer to record. For the same price, why buy this amp when it doesn't even sound as good? It has nothing the Zoom G2 can do. The Zoom G2 is miles better!
@DangerSheep This amplifier can put out a lot of bass, but I would recommend replacing the speaker. Try some car speakers out. In my opinion, the Hog 30 is much too huge to really be convenient and portable. It is pretty heavy and bulky, and the volume isn't noticably louder over the Hog 20. In addition, you can chain the amps together to get as much bass as you can afford. While not meant to substitute for a serious amp in a band setting, they do a respectable job in a portable setting.
@MarkVIILSC Don't try car speakers, they are different than guitar speakers. Guitar speakers are designed to have the coil move out of the magnet's field causing a "soft clipping" so they don't blow, and slightly color the sound. A car's speaker on the other hand is designed to have a perfectly linear response and the coil stays in the magnet's field.
@LeviMan2001 I used a pair of 300 watt woofers in mine, and they work fine for my purposes. The Pignose's strength is that it will get loud and clean -- with little distortion. In my opinion, it's better to use effects, rather than rely on the onboard overdrive -- for this amp, at least. In addition it can be used to amplify a CD player in this configuration. Unless, you use the "squeal" control, the amp will stay pretty clean, even if cranked all the way up.
@ruffles272 This is true, but the strength of the Hog 20 is its clean sound. It will never have the overdriven sound of a plug in amplifier. In fact, it doesn't distort much, unless you turn on the squeal knob. Since the other gentleman asked, the Hog 20 does bass well. If you're trying to decide between the Hog 20 and 30, the 20 is a lot easier to carry around.
i've got one in my truck I play harmonica through, it plugs into a cig lighter and is missing the rechargeable batteries, it's one of the coolest things I own.
depending on how you think about pigs? haha...

How is this amp for bass, compared to Hog 30?

The point isn't really to get the bassiest tone ever...
