@hbdrummerms With flood lights, flashlights and sometimes overly large flood lights that painters use at night because the objects are so large or there is to much ambient light present in the location we want to shoot. It is not always possible to turn all the ambient lights off if I am in a somewhat public location ( train service yard- they are always working!) Check out my ebook on line at my web site. it is pretty helpful I am told...
@hellenic300 Actually the steam was totally real. I exposed it with my very bright flood lights over about a 1/60 of a second and shot different pieces syperately in order to light each one as good as possible. It is the steam that ties the whole shot together I think. Think of the shot as 2 shots- left and right side. The steam pulls all the different portions together into one connected shot.....
@soiledmytrousers I stack them on top of each other in photoshop. REad my ebook and it explains it all, tehre are a lot more questions to ask and I have and do answer them a lot also so I made a ebook. Regards... Eric Curry
lmao....at peeps slaggin this work off......like iccle children who dont know when to shut up !......good photography wish not much info on camera gear/settings etc, liking your work v-much.....
You didn't mention what you were using for light source, it looks to be lit with "pools" of lights like "grids" or is the massive size what's give it that impression...... ?
@llamathefuzz Thanks so much for that. It is a mater of adding my time and energy all into one good shot. sort of the oposite of fashion photographhy...
@allstarplaya1294 We would love to see your work. I really like this photographer's work so yours being 20x better would be phenomenal to view. Please post a link so we may enjoy your work, also.
Hey its trully a grate stuff however is there a way u can make one video of how u handle this images and lay them on top with photoshop???? Thay would be grate thanks agen...
@yuri1s HI. I ran out of time to make more videos but I do have an ebook out now. It will explain everything as I get asked this question a LOOOOOt. go to my site via ericcurry(dot)com to buy the book. it is $19.95 and I wil send you the book within a few hours of purchase. soon it will be automated but till then I do it by hand via email.. Good luck with your shooting.
This photo is beyound incredible ! I am a professional photographer and I am very, very impressed. What do you think the chances are of you doing future videos with the process actually being videod opposed to just the stills being used. I know this is a long drawed out process but you could time lapse some of the process. Also, could you show the work flow process on the computer as well. Once again just simply incredible !!! GREAT JOB !!!
@firedup32 That would be great in deed but I just do not have enough time to go more into it. it is all done for free and on the side so getting the images is a real challenge as that is all volunteer and takes a tremendous amount wf work from a lot of different people. to do even more complex videos and deal with producing them is more than I can handle. I would rather share what I can deal with and give it away for anybody to see. No secrets unlike when I was a younger photographer.
I hear that a few times here and there. Not to be a jerk or a prude but I do nto think so. HDR is basically a software button. all shots look alike and have the same effect.
I make pictures the old fashioned was so to speak- I light them! Everybody sees what they want to see.
Also, you are seeing them on a small screen so things tend to look similar on tiny screens. When seen as large prints it is pretty mind blowing, but then I am the shooter so I like them of course....
@toph75 HI . YOu are right. Each exposure is different depending on the time needed to paint a particular area, small stuff is shorter than big stuff etc. And I like around f;14 to 18 or so. a medium ISO of around 200 ish... hOpe that helps. Regards form Los angeles: Eric Curry
@lunhil12 neither did anybody else. not even me for 10 years since digital came out and was available, and I do special effects / still life photography for over 30 years. Sometimes the stuff that is obvious we don ot think of for some reason. Now it is obvious. go figure.... Regards: Eric
I remember seeing this video 2 years ago. Can't believe I found it again. It's a very beautiful shot. I love trains and am glad to see so much detail in a single photograph. the one issue I see is the steam coming from the valve you zoomed in on doesn't look natural. Even a little wind would give it a significantly sharper angle. Other than that looks amazing.
Now THIS is art. Beautiful. Very cool. I mean, you know you love your hobby (or job) when you take 8-9 hours taking pictures of the SAME thing, for one photograph. Incredible job.

Eric, I read about you in the October issue of Texas Professional Photographer magazine and found you on YouTube. Thank you very much for this video. I was inspired to try this technique myself. After showing it to some of my Photography Club members, they have asked me to teach a Workshop of this effect.
Seems like a incredible waste of time and energy. It looks like one good night shot with a lot of added computer graphics.Although I admire you photograph it doesn't seem worth all the effort.
@MrAmericano1964 I am not quite sure what that means but I think you said that is a good video I made. If so thanks if not well, who knows. Regards form Los Angeles... Eric
Go to my web site and click on the Canon Camera video link. It is a tutorial that has a narrative attached. It explains it all maybe a bit more thorough.
Thanks for sharing...this is the area of photographic arts that has been boiling in my mind...years back when film still being used--i have trieed multiple exposure and painting with light using bulb setting inside the studio today with digital photography i heard its easier with the apllication of layering...i will kinda study that and study photoshop....thanks again.
im totally inspired by ur works sir... im starting to take the word photography literally which means writting with light after i've see some of your vids.... i'll try this technique once i get the right shot and concept (just a matter of time and patience) not to show off to my camera club bt to have a new deeper sense in making a foto. as what u have said in one of your videos that you said that the sculpture is already inside the rock... i just have to chip away the useless parts..
It is my intention to inspire others, I have to share how I do stuff in order to convince others, or people would think these are just illustrations and not photos.
do you use speedlites at all? or is it just work lights and such? I've tried using flashlights, but i end up with uneven streaks because i'm unable to keep it pefectly steady as i move it. Very impressive photos.
Thanks Guys: I appreciate the observations. Some people do not get it and I of course understand their perspective, it is a lot to absorb as it is a different technique and a new way of seeing things. I do try- so your positive comments are appreciated. regards: Eric Curry

Eric, are each of your exposure the same length or do you shoot each one based on time needed to light the area?
What f-stop would this be shot at? i'm guessing a rather large DOF to get all the detail that you create?
thx.
