In 1224/25 Danzig was founded as a German city by German merchants and settlers. The few Pomerianians already living there were quickly assimiliated. During all the centuries until 1945 Danzig stayed a German city, populated by a waste German majority. They built up a German town (typical german architecture). Also between 1454 to 1793 Danzig remained a self-governing town. Attempts of the Polish kings to conquer the town (siege of 1577) and intergrate it fully under Polish rule did fail.

@ShapurKing No, Danzig did join Poland for protection issues and was therefor officially part of Poland, but it stayed a self govern (and German populated and German speaking) city and defended that free status within Poland (unlike Thorn, which lost it already in the 16th) until 1793, when it again belonged to a German country. The time between 1454 to 1793 was actually the role model for the creation of the Freistaat Danzig in 1919-1939 (German city but closely connected to Poland).

Polish army was retreating and trying to regroup in the East your whole army was tied up in the East and you lost a lot of your tanks and planes in that campaign. It was Poland yes our alliance with the West helped we never ally with Jew killers and blood thirsty beasts like Germans who shamed themselves for another thousand years with the Holocaust. Dla Polski nie było dobrych alternatyw były tylko złe. W każdym przypadku traciliśmy i ryzykowali niepewna przyszłością...np. teraz by zabezpieczyć nasz granice na zachodzie powinniśmy postarać się o mały nowoczesny arsenał nuklearny by doleczyć do klubu "nietykalnych" nie liczmy na USA ani żadne pakty to już przerabialiśmy wielokrotnie w historii....
