The flame front crosses from header to intake before the intake valve can cycle.

  • cylinder coil under the bonnet and divert it to the one you installed but i would use 2-4 ptm and ptb switches if it where me because you will have to rev it up and then push them while pumping the accellerator the rev dial will drop because there is no revs goin to the engien before it stalls you MUST let the switches out or it will stall and you will look like a dick infront of your mates (i am using this method ..................(view my next comment)

  • guys the cheepo way of making your own kit is bacically get a decat exhaust or replace catylistic onverter with a steel pipe then place a cylinder coil at the back end of your car near the exhaust tip wire the negative to the chasis or to the battery and bypass the possitive lead thru a switch on the dash drill a hole about 6" from exhaust tip and put in a spark plug by either taping a hole welding on a bolt or just ..........(view next comment)

    No, it can't. The way it works is that it routs a bit of raw gas into the fuel line and ignights in the tailpipe. What stops this from coming back into the engine is that not only are there valves, the pressure from the exhaust forces it out the tailpipe. There is absolutely no chance of it coming back into the gas tank.

    The lack of oxygen in the exhaust pipe i would imagine. I believe that the igniters light the un-burnt fuel near the tip of the exhaust, where the fuel has enough oxygen to burn.

    Don't quote me on that, but that's my guess :P

    Also, I don't think there's too much danger. Check out how anti-lag works and you'll get my meaning. (combustion occurs in the headders; outside the engine)

    the flame thrower spark plugs are mounted way back at the exhuast pips about 5-8 inches on the tips. your pistons act as a pump pushing the unignited fuel along with the air out of the combustion chamber into the exhaust pipes and the spark plugs mounted back there will ignite the mixture way back there.

    will this is done for a few seconds at a time when you hit that kill switch, just look at how a lighter works basically has the same principal of a flame thrower

    They work by igniting injected fuel... so even if it did, it wouldn't matter anyway.

  • @mustangwner2003V6 This is controlled/modulated and made to cut of the ignition so fuel doesn't ignite and can travel down exhaust, the spark plugs are set at the end of the pipes so you can see the flames(best results), meaning the flames don't travel well, so flames won't travel back to engine, and even if they did, it's a combustion engine anyway, AND the ignition/spark plugs are controlled not to spark, while the two at the end of the exhaust do. These have been around 4ever on classics.

  • @metsslip That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. There are multiple ways to do this, regardless of turbo or not. There is a nozzle technique where you insert a volatile substance into the exhaust via nozzle (propane, gas, whatever) with a spark plug after it. The exhaust pushes the other substance past the spark plug, which is activated by a switch, sparking the fluid, causing flames.

  • @metsslip There is also a technique that requires cutting spark to the engine allowing raw fuel to flow out the exhaust with a spark plug in the end to ignite.

    Neither of these have to do with a turbo.

  • @barrishautomotive Most conventional tailpipe flamethrower kits do not cut fuel to the engine and rather ignite unburnt fuel with ambient air around the tailpipe. Engines typically run rich from the factory and burn all of the intake air, but not fuel, making that system viable.

    You're correct that this system disables spark plugs to achieve a larger flame, but remember that this is not conventional and quickly damages your engine. My apologies for assuming it worked in the normal way.

  • @mustangwner2003V6 no. go learn about how valves open and close, and youll see why. 1) exhaust valve has much higher pressure on its side with its little tiny openings than the big ass 2+ inch exhaust openings, so there will NEVER be enough pressure to push it backwards. its like tryin to shove all the water coming out of your garden hose back into the tap. 2) the valve closes so that exhaust gas doesnt go into the engine. 3) if it DID (bannana blocking exhaust) it would just stall ur engine.

  • Autoloc flame thrower kits actually shut down the spark to the engine, causing unburnt gas to exit the tailpipes where a spark plug near the tips ignites the gas before exiting. This is why the engine keeps reving up. The flow of the exhaust is enough to keep the flames going out the end and not back through the tailpipes.

AutoLoc's system (I have one installed in my '66 Olds) does use a spark plug in the exhaust like you said, but it kills the ignition to the engine, sending unburnt fuel down the exhaust. Best results: Plant your foot on the throttle and use the flamethrower to govern the engine. Since it kills your engine, you won't be able to 'cruise and burn' without other modifications.

    Bad part is raw fuel is a really good solvent. It'll wash the oil right off your cylinders in no time.
