  • Please, can someone write what bukowski says? I speak english, but i cannot understand him! thanks

  • @pollysplash

"Love is kind of like when you see a fog in the morning when you wake up before the sun comes out. Its just that little while, then it burns away."

  • Thanks for the hopefully thoughts, Charley. Not that I should've expected anything else.

  • Deep.

  • love is a fog that burns with the first daylight of reality

  • Bukowksi is a brutal truth that the news dare not read aloud.

Give me Bukowksi,Lenny Bruce,Bill Hicks any day.

I'd much rather be awake than sleep walking!

  • @steviebellvocals i just want you to know i thought that was beautiful, if you came up with the "I'd much rather be awake than sleep walking" quote. really touched me.

  • @ImaGipC watch "waking life"

  • @ImaGipC I think I actually did?!!

  • When Bukowski speaks his words are so powerful and truthful (to me anyway). The truth can be very harsh and I think what he tries to do is speak about what people are afraid to admit. We live in a world full of people who are not in reality, they are just fooling themselves. Very sad. Most human beings are frauds/phonies tryng to impress one another and looking for something or someone that doesn't exist.

  • Being in love is being in the fog of our hormones; then after the first orgasm (maybe a few more) the sun rises higher and higher until it is noon.

  • read bukowskis letters; there are four volumes altogether. there is some great words and wisdom to be found there in. a fantastic writer, just so so brilliant and very funny too

as to his views about humanity, i know where he comes from; i don't like people per se or en masse but i like individuals

  • True Legend..

    Hard childhood..

    peace

  • i would love to challenge charles bukowski to a basketball game and cross him over

  • "love is a fog that burns with the first daylight of reality. "

    Aint that the truth

  • @tilly15773 sure is!

  • BUKOWSKI DOESNT KNOW SHIT (about video games)

  • Poser drivel. He doesn't believe in the truth or merit of what he's saying any more than I do.

  • @danrendine you are a very sad and tired outlook

  • @danrendine No just an experienced one...and very wise, once you accept the transience of all things you attain some level of enlightenment...from my perspective anyway. There's alot of truth in sadness...

  • wow

  • "love is a fog that burns with the first daylight of reality"

    just beautiful, and true...

  • @jkhgsdhgdhgjklsdhfgj That's one kind of love. Another kind is the one that accepts reality and throws its hands into the air when it smells like shit. Then there's the love one feels for their children: Annoyed when they eat all the chips, but would throw itself in front of a truck to keep them alive. Then there's the kind of love one feels for chocolate: Its about pleasure. Sex would be similar but it requires human interaction, which smells like shit.

  • I think Bukowski was like a lot of sensitive people.bitter and cynical about things.and i dont blame him at all really.I think he didn tlike people to romanticize things.he liked people to think of things realistically and strip away all the bullshit.his comments come from pain and hurt.deep down he was just a human being.for all his cynicism he cried on his wedding day just like many other men.and he also wrote a poem about a bluebird in his heart wanting to get out..but he was hardened to life

  • sometimesi think like this but what if hate is the same way

  • so deep!

  • He's seizing!

  • fuck yes!

  • How sad that he thinks that is true. It makes his poetry even more real.

  • @batman2909 how is that sad he thinks that is true. it's from his experience. the quick appearance of love & the vacuous space it leaves when it goes. reality. the space.

  • @zoompast: it's not weed. He smoked "Beedies". B's are small tobacco-smokes made in India. You can buy 'em almost everywhere. I smoke 'em too. Prefer 'em over cigarettes, they are cheaper/stronger. To the comments about him not loving and disbelieving his remark: you should know better, because he was always honest!! I think that his daughter was his n. one love. Horses, no: they were more of a past-time that became gambling addiction. He was always figuring out new systems how to beat the odds

  • Bukowskis LOVE was his daughter... and the horses...

  • this video makes him look like michael j fox on crack

  • @daveyboy76 shut the fuck up

  • I respect the man, but he his view of love is tragically limited. I don't believe that Bukowski was ever a parent. This we share, I too am not a parent. Even though I am not a writer or a poet, I have more imagination that he does. I know that the love a parent feels for their child is more resilient than he describes. Lastly, my wife is critically ill with failing kidneys. I know my love for her will not burn off in the sun.

This has me wondering if Bukowski ever loved. How could he have.

  • Bukowski is an observer and molsty he doesnt talk about how he feels careful in here i said mostly! and I think in this case hes talking about what an average human being feels as love. Bukowski did love, in here hes being very realistic and kind of sarcastic about the issue wich is love

  • Love isn't a tangible thing. "Love" is only a word. That feeling you have for your family members is biologically driven and given. He's speaking of the "love" that isn't handed to you against your will.

  • @AnastasiaExpert i like your comment about "love" that isn't handed to you against your will. very poetic(i think so) i just finished Ham on Rye. no wonder he was so messed up but brilliant none the less.

  • @WaldoPepper62

he was a parent, as he was many things. It's easy to sit back and judge from a place that holds no weight in any slum in any city, town, or hole you call home... what has made the man great has always been, that he subtly tells his fans that they are pussy's, as he explains himself as the worst of the best...the rawest. bukowski was no knock out champ, no real tough guy bar spit fuck, no one thing more than the other. he was a man...in a word of dying and fleeting men.

  • @mrjordanist

    Greathest Wrighter.

  • @WaldoPepper62: I don't think Bukowski actually believes what he says here. If he truly believed what he said, he would've never have said it. Or he would've never started writing in the first place. He may have been burned, and burned other people time and again by the relationships they had, but I think he believes in love. It's just that it is untenable for most of us out there, whether it's our own fault or not. I believe these are the words of a man who puts love above all else.

  • Love is a miracle. But i like Bukowski's definition by the way, it's more realistic...

  • The greatest American poet.

  • love is a fog that burns out with the first day light of reality..

  • Dirpavis, if you are reading Rumi then you should know better than to judge a man, especially switching onto the grounds of spirituality. Charles Bukowski is his own kind of spiritual. It's sad that you missed that. And if you think you know what love is, I'd be glad to hear you try and explain it. In fact, if you "know" anything, then it should be that it is impossible to completely "know" anything.

  • it is pretty clear even just from interviews that he got f*cked over by women every time.

some people are attracted to him as a tough guy, but with women he was totally soft and they abused him because of it.

  • Love is a little bit of a disease. Look, the love of your family and friends and animals is a different kind of love when you 'love' your woman. i'm 23 and i never had a long relationship, i had plenty but never long. I love Women but women can't seem to love me. they said the words many times ' i love you'. They never mean it.

the only time i mean it, is when i see them the first time. Later on... fuck i dunno what Love is.

i don't think it's real. it holds u back as a human being.

  • Shit. Now I'm depressed.

  • lol is he smoking weed?

  • Bukowski had a bizarre hatred of weed and people who smoked it, so it was most likely a rolled cigarette.

  • awesome, i like him even more now :)

  • @supafly345

    His hatred wasn't bizarre.

    All true drunkards loathe pot.

That's why booze and weed are the two most popular drugs.

To each his own, but I'll take my hooch.

  • @franchiseboy123 i adore smoking weed and drinking at the same time. that way you revisit your true self.

  • @supafly345 thats not true, in ocassions specially during interviews he smoked weed a few times, mainly to provoke, his preferred drug was obviously booze

  • I agree.

  • Read his poem "Confession" for a different view on Love. "The words I feared to say". Bukowski's very complex. I think all his poems were influenced by Love, or the lack of Love.

  • It takes a brilliant man to convey something that people won't necessarly understand or agree with but will still accept as being insightful.

  • nobody knows what love is.....

  • ha-I love his definition-that's what I think.

    cool.

  • see and hear and understand all of this: the display detail,

the flickering colours, the moment of the lighter, the mutating distortions, the smoke in the right seconds, last but not least: his words...

    - it's haunting.

  • goddamn.............that's so fucking true!!

  • Best fucking writer ever. Hank, we fucking miss you. Thanks for everything.

Only Houllebecq, Camus and Hemmingway are greater.

  • la definicion exacta de lo que dice en castellano

    por favor!!!!!

  • This man is a Rational animal.

Love is what we want it to be.Tha'ts why it's never enough!

  • the arguments, the bullshit talk to try to get something meaningful out there. what is out there? it does not exist. you make up reality with words as you pass along the same field as others. your view changes, the scenery might seem brighter or greener, but it is all a trick.

  • i love bukowski, and he can be very deep, and quite quotable...but hiding behind cynicism is like being steve mcqeen,it's a symptom of fear(understandable)...love can't be summed up in a nihilistic sound-byte...i love my mother,i love my dogs(these are unconditional and pure),and in some way, though relationships go sour,i love all my lovers through my life, and my friends -- love is nothing to rail against(maybe bad judgement, but that's on you)

  • jesus shut up

  • i agree.

  • @paulianna1 Now now, his judgment is as valid as yours... no need to be condescending. It makes you look rather petty and small minded. It is a symptom of vanity (understandable).

  • @paulianna1 this is bullshit, love by nature is fleeting this is what he was expressing, you sound like a teenager.

  • @bangthatdrumb are you a judge? old man

  • @paulianna1

love is a feeling thats all

  • @paulianna1 your comment reminds me of something else Bukowski used to say--to paraphrase: An artist says something profound in a simple way, an intellectual says something simple in a profound way.

  • @arsepoetica71 actually it goes: An intelectual is a man who says a simple thing in a difficult way; an artist is a man who says a difficult thing in a simple way....

    words to live by...

  • man, I love this guy.

  • Infatuation.

  • ¡Qué mítico Perales! Está to bueno el tio.

  • yea what is love,??

,,i think love is a powerfull afrodisiak,,,and it makes a girl think shes a princess who will stick to 1 guy and never leave him like eeeeeveeer,,,,,,and it also turns a man into a sucker and makes him take her for granted ,,and very soon u guys are over and nothing u vowed mean shit,,,thats all it really is,,

its a car accident waiting to happen,,sure the ride was sweet at times wind in ur hair,,,but be sure of this,,,u guys are gona crash,,its just a matter of time,

  • girls crash too idiot

  • Truth.

  • People who realy drink... ring in the sun in a debauch sense of glory.

  • what the hell does that mean?

  • did he have parkinson's near the end?

  • Hahaha!

  • the man obviously wasn't a jazz fan

  • Thanks Chuck! I think I get you. Love is like a fog in the morning? Do you mean like an LA fog? Or a drunken hungover fog? Or is inspiration a bump on a log? If you're lost in love are you lost in fog? Does love not clarify, just make things foggy? Help me Chuck. I'm feeling groggy. Is love a fog that comes from too much grog? Are you really a prince but feel like a frog? A frog on a log with a bottle of grog in the fog? Is that what you mean by love? Chuck? You there?
  • this is henry chinaski you just channeled! quit waking me up with your fucking poems!! it's over, i'm dead, live your own life and let me sleep in peace!!!!....ahhhh, i have a new book coming out every month at better book stores everywhere...my wife couldn't resist releasing all the swill i passed on to make a buck (pun intended)for herself and baba yonda. god bless the little lady and marina.

  • 've gotta tell that to this one girl I see.

  • Bravo

  • Good definition

  • i'm so in love with him

  • pretty much the truest statement I've heard.

  • Love is a fog that burns with the first daylight of reality

  • ¿Qué es amor?

Amor es una niebla que quema con la primera luz del día de la realidad

  • Love is a chemical reaction. Nothing more. And like any drug, the more you get of it..the more your tolerance builds, and eventually you just stop feeling the rush.

  • yeah, thats always a typical response.you remind of this alleged egg head, who thinks along the very same lines as well. in fact ,he gave me this long typed letter on the very subject.man, you must be dead, if you really believe that way about love .Its not just a chemical reaction ,although your statement is only partly correct ,but theres a spiritual component as well. but i suppose your going to say that about spirituality as well. wouldnt you. i wish you well .dont get too jaded on it.

  • As everything is "just a chemical reaction", a dance of particles along the lines of natural reality, that's not really an effective putdown of anything.

  • true, but things shouldn´t be needlessly romanticized. Things have to be understood first in the most basic form before a correct opinion and action can be made concerning them.

Then again, there is a certain cense of romance in calling love just a biological occurrence.

  • true, but things shouldn´t be needlessly romanticized. Things have to be understood first in the most basic form before a correct opinion and action can be made concerning them.

Then again, there is a certain cense of romance in calling love just a biological occurrence.

  • That's kind of a high schooler way of thinking IMO, but to each his own I guess.

  • what were you expecting? unicorns and rainbows? for some people, love is-to quote Buk-a dog from hell. some people are so withdrawn from society, their social ineptitude prevents them from having meaningful, lasting relationships. its not a "get over it" thing. its how they are. the smartest and most talented people in the world are also the most damaged. to quote frank gehry: "talent is liquefied trouble". so these issues propelled his writing

  • Believe me pal, I know. There are times when I just want to be completely alone for years at a time, and others when I just need to be the center of attention. I'm always thinking about the past, and never the present or future.

I'm just saying that saying "love is just a chemical reaction" doesn't cheapen the concept in any way. If anything, it makes it more beautiful.

  • 4 yrs ago, i loved people & loved being listened to, touched, etc. but all that faded. without getting into details, im a pretty cynical, reclusive loner now. all my love, and the need to be needed has been starved out of me. if you go long enough without it, whilst trying, eventually you stop knocking on the door, to what turns out to be an empty house. i may not love my self-isolated but it beats the hell out of my terminally ill effort. im also stuck in the past. im not lonely. just bored

  • I know exactly how you feel. At my old job, I thought that the people I worked with were friends. We went out drinking, had parties, and then when I left they just acted like I was going to be back again tomorrow. Nobody cared, and I haven't gotten more than 3 or 4 phone calls from "friends" since that time. I can't remember the last time I had a conversation with somebody, and I'm still infatuated with the concept of being around those people even if it meant nothing to them.

  • yeah, same. i would surround myself by assholes, and would allow myself to be taken advantage of, just because i was around people. even if they didnt shut up when i spoke, it was just nice to have company. 2 things: take this quote into mind from the book Rasselas by Samuel Johnson: "Life is a condition in which much is to be endured and little to be enjoyed." and watch on utube "Impossible Germany" by Wico. its about awaking from denial and accepting yourself. hauntingly beautiful.

  • Well, I think some of my people may have cared for me at one point but my insecurities erased any chance for us to be anything other than acquantances. I just remember so many failed opportunities to get closer to them and I failed, and just ended up using them as my psychologists. I don't hate people, I just can't interact with them.

  • You and me, we the same. Except I hate people. Ive been dragged through the coals quite a few times, and its not that ive had good and bad experiences;ive only had the bad ones. and i guess im at the point now where i wont allow anyone to get close to me, almost to justify my disappointment with the world. im insane, i know this, but i lack the energy--im tired as hell--to put my right foot forward and just be a true man and face the world. at least im honest about it.

  • I just haven't had a lot of experiences with bad people. Nobody's ever really screwed me over. At the high school I went to, everybody virtually got along with each other and it had a "big family" atmosphere.

  • don't worry, someone ll screw you, sooner or later.

  • The key is to not expect too much, emotions are ephemeral. I don't even think people are meant to stay with each other forever, it just never works.

  • @4jonah after years of trying to describe how i feel, your comment has been the most impacting thing i've read in awhile. Thank you very much.

  • @MakeUrselfSick

I have alot of comments in this video, so im not sure which one it was, but you're welcome :)

  • @4jonah yea ive gone through alot to and to much humility to know it but i keep knocking, even if its to my iminent doom. you have to strive for love like flower without water you will whither and die what you want to do is find yourself a good woman and eventually settle. anyway what ever way you go good luck wit that bro, Gods speed.

  • @4jonah I always say "I'm not lonely, just alone."

  • Comment removed

  • @4jonah thats pretty much exactly my life right now

  • @4jonah Everyone who has had the displeasure of being able to honestly relate to Bukowski is in the same boat as you, friend.

  • @4jonah If you think that you can get along without people why did you feel the need to write something hundreds of people would read; I think your cynical self is trying to reach out for some understanding.... or some pity

  • @4jonah beautifully put !!! but life is grey i think although i agree with the sentiament I still have hope, life is about isolation but you get used to that you learn ways to cope you keep your self busy!! humans are floored but they create art, music, philosophy, mathematics, the two words I would use to describe humanity would be beautifully floored!!! you can't trust people, you can rely on people, but at least you will not be bored!!! and if love is a fog at least you have that for 2 secs!

  • @4jonah stuck in the past........im not lonely, just bored. you said it. my friends and relatives ask me all the time why i dont get a woman for myself.....they tell me what a good looking man i am at 42 years of age and how i must be lonely and it seems such a waste for me not to be in a loving relationship......well a woman i loved very dearly for 16 years left me for another man in 2003 and while i had the rebound relationships ive since moved on and dont feel so alone anymore ? its odd

  • @4jonah that's some deep shit man....but i wouldn't say becoming a cynical reclusive loner is what we should all strive towards.

  • @4jonah

If you took a shitload of LSD you would probably feel differently.

  • could somebody write the text..please..? i´m spanish..and i want to understand it..please..thanks);)

  • bitterness

  • Fuck that...he's absolutely correct. Anybody that has ever fallen in love knows that there is always that first spark...that longing burning star....that feeling of gut wrenching desire and commitment. Feeling that you are kindred soulmates or whatever. But after sharing day after day with this person it all starts to feel routine.

  • beautifuly said

  • This is human condition not love, love is an ideal out of reach of these words. love needs no man to be defined because he can not define love. Love is a broken bottle, a lost thought, a spiral staircase to no where in the heart of a man.

  • i thought it was a beutiful idea and very well put sometimes it is like that but thats not right all the time, his wrong, the way i see it my love for example for my father who is a man that has been there for me always teching me evrything, how to be a good man how to face life with courage, and all that, i dont think love for my family will vanish, bukowski was great he cant b right in everything, he mant love for him, as he saw it but i think deep down in his writtings its a different thing

  • I take it a lot of you are finding Bukowski for the first time. Kudos to you!

Do many of you realize that all these videos get flagged by conservative fundamentalists daily!? Now ole Hank does have the last laugh!

    Long live being human!

  • Bukowski is taking the piss....he must of loved it when all these earnest european "art" Tv shows turned up with some cash and booze. Let's hope they don't start "tarting" him up like Chet Baker. He was great without becoming an industry ( Phd's on his poetry etc.....crap!!)

  • do ppl really get phd's on bukoski's poetry?

  • Are you against the idea?

    Looking for proof?

    Turning down the request?

Telling me Bukowski is not as great as DH Lawrence?

    Or just bewildered?

  • haldenver I 2nd that lol. I need not comment.

  • Wise man

  • and i heard this a million times, and it aint true, who loves in the morning?

  • he is camp

  • camp?

  • I plan to go pick up Post Office and Women on friday. Needless to say I can't wait, I'll probably read them both the day I get them. I love many authors but Bukowski is just so beautifully subtle and such a comfortable read. It feels easy, almost too easy -- but after you've read it, it stays with you, unlike most writers whose work seems difficult - in the end it's just pretentiousness masking nothingness.

  • i definitly agree.

  • Whatever people do to get off, whether that be actually reading Bukowski or saying they read Bukowski, it's none of our damned business. There are always going to be poetic people and there will always be a hipster acting poetic, deal with it.

  • and then there are the people who live it,and who have never heard of bukowski.

  • @Fuckadillo ^^

  • I'm going to have a seizure watching this.

  • "Stupid Bukowski readers!" Just like Homer Simpson :P

    Find "Beerbottle" by Bukowski.

  • fuck off and read Helen Fielding u fuck

  • If I may be so bold as to steal a quote from the late great Bill Hicks about Bob Dylan: This guy shits truth.

  • miller? bukowski liked him. a little. quote: "whole bus ride to florida I resolved to read miller. When he was good he was good, and vice versa."

  • i remember that quote, but i can't remember which one of his books it's from.

    it's a poetry book though...

  • hey yackchuck you dumb fuck it's take it not took it

  • Bukowski excuse my way of living.Yah right! He took all this from Henry Miller!Miller took it from D.H Lawrence!Where did D.H Laurence took it?Have fun guys!

  • There's nothing new under the sun.

  • vinitas vanitatum

  • ...et omnia vanitas?

But I'm not following you. Please elaborate.

  • "Stupid Bukowski readers!" Imagine Homer Simpson saying this :P

  • if you don't fucking like it simply don't commment.

  • This is the most insipid and overused comment on you-tube. If we choose to not to agree with a posters opinion we may critique in any manner we see fit. I would suggest to you reclaiming your vertebrate status. Learn to accept contrary positions without becoming an anus. You only make yourself look moronic when you repeat these empty words.

  • And you only make yourself look like an arse by getting out your thesaurus just to write a message on youtube, you pompous twat.

  • A writer simply needs a dictionary, you heinous salami slapper. Your reply is quite humorous and caused me to spew coffee. A thesaurus? For YouTube Comments? Please Nancy, you flatter yourself.

  • Cunt flaps!

  • What, do you have the tourette's?

  • I thought "cunt flaps" was better than "salami slapper". Thought I'd help out.

Your name is my name! This means nothing, but it is an amusing coincidence. La fortune passe partout.

  • Oh honestly, you prick, Grow up and stop being a man hore towards my sisters comments! She's only trying to state her opinion, if you have a problem then don't read it! Twat....

  • LOL I think he has a delirium tremens!

  • nobody reads bukowski, but ppl love to say that they read it.
