The audacity of a 9:OO minute + song...this could only happen back in the day, when it was all about the music (not so much about the commerce). Even though $ did play into it (I think they only recorded this one solo album), luckilly its great, an unsung classic (Sweet Lover Man, Roll Me Thru the rushes, Does your Momma Know, etc.).
What an awesome post! I love it. I actually have this on vinyl. Was a big fan, got to see them live when in college (late 70's), they were equally awesome. I love how Ula is echoing some of the notes an octave higher. And the rhythm section...2 die 4, didnt know it was Herbie & the HeadHunters, it figures though. Equally as strong as the vocals...A+
Thanx for posting , looking for more from them (FTH)
Thanks for posting, great vocal cover of Herbie Hancock's song. Redd, Hedwig & Crossley made a damn good LP. Glad you made the David Rubinson connection. I think the best Pointer Sisters albums and Labelle album (Chameleon) shows both groups best vocal work. As well as Patti LaBelle best solo efforts.
