  • that's sick. . insane phrasing man

  • Nice man!

    Great job

  • where did you learn to play like this? god, i wish i could jam like this!

  • Nice... listened Nico Assumpçao in your notes and modes.!

  • how do you get such a sick tone?

  • ...and the purpose of being a bass player if you are going to play it like a guitar is what?

  • sounds like a frettless

  • One of best bass-videos on youtube. Great solo on Victor Wooten level...

  • Wow! Really cool! :D

  • very tasty jam man, beautifally done (Y)

  • It seems to be really easy when I see you playing ;) really Xcellent!!

  • BRASILIAN MUSIC THE BEST

  • how much harder is it to play a six string than a 5 string bass?

  • @GHfan96 not much harder at all, depends on how comfortable you are with the extra strings, some people need to get accustomed to the additions but to me it wasnt very different from playing a four string, you just have to know what youre doing lol

  • I got the BTB555QM-WB. Is that the Prestige that you're playing? Or am I wrong?

Beautiful mix of scales and chords.

  • Very very cooool! :)))

  • love your playing resonantdoghouse! 5 stars!!

  • You sound fantastic man!!! Really good tone, and some interesting phrases. How does your bass sound in the low end?

  • I love the BTB's...the exquisite range of sounds are delicious. And as always, your playing and composition are stunning. Maybe one day they will have a resonantdoghouse channel on Sirius...

  • very good man

  • Shit hot my friend. That's some smooooooth stuff. :D

  • Man you can shred that beast up!!

  • kick ass a 6 string bass! That would be really cool to have, especially because I'm used to 6 strings.

  • sounds like someone listens to Bella Fleck!

  • You got that style of playing down.

  • This is excellent! Well done!

  • savage stuff man

  • awesome groove!

  • groooooooooooove

  • This guy is immense. Im reallly enjoying your music.

  • Not my style of music but really groovy and technically great. Good Job!

  • great solo but personally i love the sound of long full notes

  • nice groove my friend

  • Muy bueno!

  • So do 6 string basses have a low string and a high string or is it two lower strings like an 8 string guitar?

  • Its a four string bass with a low B like a 5 string, and then also a high C above the G

  • That's what I thought. I had been told that a 6 string has both a low F# and B like the 8 strings usually come tuned standard.

  • Dude i love your bass, Thinking about getting a six string(Rondomusic hxb406:( NOthing compared to a freaking ibanez.

  • wow, wish i was half as good as you, i love to play the bass but im not even adequate when it comes to music theory and my ability to jam in a specific key.

    5/5

  • Aww... It's not too bad, man. This guy is REALLY good. But you just have to have a good foundation. How long have you been playing?

  • about 4 years now, everything i know how to do on the bass i learned from covering songs, unfortunately i used tabs when i first started out so now that im learning by ear its a big stretch.

  • i've been playing guitar 13 years going on just tabs and watching people's hands. it can get you pretty far. i think jamming with people is the key. music is a language and you won't get good at it unless you speak it with people. :-)

  • Drool..................

  • Being a student at the Manhattan School of Music I can safely say that you are better than anyone here. Kudos.

  • What kind of video software do you use? Great playing

    ub

  • I've never been able to get a tone that smooth out of any of my basses...I tend to sound pretty rough and tumble I guess.

  • Really nice stuff man. Perfect execution. The chordal stuff reminds me of Oteil's playing. Keep up the great work!

  • nice jam.

  • Impressive! lol I can't wait 'til my 6 string comes in!

  • If u come to japan u will be the best bass player in japan lol.

  • wow! awesome job!

  • Comment removed

  • THats cool man... beast!

  • awsome mate!

  • Great stuff, man! I dig the chordal playing.

  • 5 stars...great job

  • gotta love a good vamp with solo!

I love laying a quick bass riff, hitting some chords, than tapping a "drum" on the strings when I vamp :)

  • You continue to inspire me...

  • it sounds a lot patitucci :) awesome

  • Do you mean Petrucci?

  • no.john patitucci,ex bass player of chick corea electric band

but i also love the playing of petrucci of dream theater, tough i m a bass player,he inspire me a lot

  • You should put some video lessons on youtube, or examples of licks you frequently use, you're a very good improviser

  • Nice sound man!!! What effects are u using??

  • Hey what modes are you playing here? So freakin tight!!

  • I'd say mostly Dorian, but there is some double diminished and passing notes thrown in. Also a couple stolen lines from Patitucci and Jaco. For the chords it's kinda a quartal harmony like mccoy tyner, stacking notes in fourths in the dorian mode. There are some good books by Berkley for guitar on modal improvisation, probably where I got the style from :)

The best album to learn modal soloing from I'd say is "Kinda Blue", also just a great album to listen to!

  • Thanks for the helpful info. Great solo!

  • your a beast. are you in a band or do u just play by yourself?

  • Lol, beastman.

I've played in a bunch of bands with silly names but at the moment I'm mostly just messing around, jamming and playing a few gigs here and there.

I do have my first gig as a frontman coming up the end of June, it will be all the way up in Revelstoke.

  • Tiiiggghhhttt !!!!!!!

  • Thats a sweet sounding bass. What pickups are those and what strings are you using.

  • genial and cool.

  • u are bassist hero.. i have BTB 6 strings neck tru. But, i can't play like that man.. good job..BTB yeah

  • awesome

  • That's right...the good bass should sound good when set flat. The rest is just make-up:) I bought me a 6 str. F bass ...a year ago,and i'm soo pleased with it:)

  • What do you mean by F bass?

  • great bass work, i just wanna ask how did u get the sound that close to John Patitucci's bass, i use Carvin basses and i have a GT6B bass effects, if u could tell me what parameters u use to get that sound i'll be gratefull

    God Bless

  • Hmmm, reverb I guess lol. That late 80's early 90's sound, like a space station or a cave.

But for the actual tone I just set the pickups to be on both and everything is flat. I added a little compression, reverb and that was it.

This bass sounds pretty good when set flat.

In hindsight this track probably has too much reverb on it, but it does have a certain character to it, kinda like an ECM sound lol.

  • This sounds so pro... keep going!

  • awesome!

  • what model of BTB is this?

  • From the look of it it reckon its a btb556 played with a high degree of skill.

  • you truly have a talent not many can improvise as good as you

  • Absolutely beautiful solo! You are a very talented 6-string bassist! Keep up the great work!

  • Nice 6 strings are my favorite.

  • ohhhhhh the ibanez's btb 6 strings are so crazy....

    nice playing man.

  • I have the exact same bass!!!! Dats is sum sweet playin man!!

  • lol,

That's why I'm not releasing any dance videos :)

  • great playing. i hear early jon pattitucci in there. what are you running your bass through. i like your tone.

  • everyone does it somehow, it's called keeping rhythm. Are you really watching this to rate bass player's moves/ stage presence?

  • Exactly. The playing was phenomenal. That's all that should matter. He's having fun as well so it's even better.

  • I got this reply and immediately expected you to be attacking me. People on here are such rude bastards. Can't everyone chill, aren't bassists supposed to be laid back? take it easy bud

  • Nah, I'm a respectful guy. No need to harass someone's style. If it makes them happy that's all that matters.

  • word

  • nice work man

  • Yeah, dude, thats what I do too, a BTB tuned EADGC, good stuff. Nice playing.

  • you're brilliant! wanna make a band lol

  • great !!

  • That's utterly amazing. How did you learn to play like that?

  • holy crap thats fast

  • Damn Good!

  • wats the range of prices for a basic six string bass?

  • $200 - 600 but for any of the BTB series 6 strings they go for $650 and up

  • serious quality playing, good shit man

  • Very nice.

  • Wow! Really beautiful!

  • cool!!!

  • Man, that is bad ass. I'm gonna go out and buy me a 6 string right now.

  • Fucking fantastic.

  • Beautiful solo man...plus the bass that you vamped over is pretty chill as well. Can you put this up for mp3 format for download? Seriously I love this!

  • Hey awesome bass playing! I've got the same bass, I don't use it such a great way tough... But this is an incredible bass! I wouldn't exchange it at any cost!

  • Very Nico Assumpção

  • Very sweet performance! What kind of loopstation you`re using?

  • For recording and loooping I am using Ableton Live 7. I've gotta get a pedal for live though, I think boomerang and boss make good ones.

  • YES!!!!

I have that bass too. Beautiful isn't it? It's a bargain too.

  • Yeah it's quite a good bass. I mean it's no F-bass or Fodera but it's a fraction of the price and has all the same notes :)

    Cheers, Jim

  • Oh nice.

I came looking for a Demo of the bass played by someone else in a different style to myself and just look!

Such fluid sweet playing but even better, you look like your grooving along too.

  • killer tone! what kinda amp are you using? I'm looking for a new 6-string myself, and right now I'm considering either the Warwick Corvette or Thumb, but after watching this, perhaps I should give the BTB another shot..

  • I am using an EA iamp 350, but in this video I am just going direct into my audio card which is an emu 1616.

I have not tried the Corvette but I used to own a Thumb bass. The only thing I don't like abou the thumb bass is that it's very neck heavy, and expensive, but it sounds great and plays really well. The BTB is great for the price, but it all depends on what you are looking for, I mean Brian Bromberg played on Peavy's!

  • Badass playing.

  • Beautyful tone on that BTB... Ain't those Bartollini just sweet? And I still have my Elixirs on too.

And BTW, you're one of the most talented bass players I've heard. A true inspiration.

    Peace

  • Wow thanks! I still have so much to learn though. Bassists like Gary Willis, Matt Garrison, Hadrien Feraud, and Janek Gwizdala really freak me out, In a good way!

Yeah the Bartollinis are sweet, they can make almost any bass sound nice, I've even played Cort basses that sounded decent with these pickups.

BTW I finally bought new Elixirs, should last another 7 months :)

  • nice!!! 5*

  • Love the tone! Very smooth and accurate! 5/5

  • what kind of strings do you use?

  • When I can find them I use Elixir's. The strings keep their tone for a long time and the feel is nice with the coating. This bass had Elixir's on it when I bought it 7 months ago and they are still on it now!

  • Damn man. Love how each part melds in perfectly. And nice you are one of the best soloists I have seen!

  • great playing man

  • not a clone at all totally great player, ive seen all your vids. take it from me, a pro. you are the shit. we should chat ! - alan

  • I love the Ibanez BTBs...

  • Amazing solo!!! i have a Btb 550, what's your set of pick up and eq ? help me, i like your sound!!!

  • hi.

i have the same bass as him .

to qet this sound you should put the tone driver in the middle and the midranqe driver should also be in the middle .

now put the low and hiqh freq. selector a bit hiqher than the middle and you qet this sound ^^ sry for creapy enqlish dude xD

  • wow dude that sounds great and i like you bass

  • Don't listen to them man; that's great stuff you're playing.

  • I appreciate it but I take no offense. I was going for a Patitucci style, he will always be one of my Favorite 6 string bassists. As for the comment about the hat, well that's just... creative :)

  • einwandfrei ( in english onewallfree ;) ) nene echts au geil !!!

  • yo man awsome playing, got the same bass into the same style ..jazz it on man...u must listen to john pat haha

  • Great ;)

  • Please keep posting your vids! You are amazing!

  • Outstanding.

  • I absolutely love the way you play. I never get bored of your ideas. You inspire me to keep learning and try new things. Thanks for the unreal video. Incredible.

  • A nice patitucci'an approach there, the phrasing is amazing (wow that rhymes),groovy as hell too...

  • Wow youre really good man! This is mad

I'm thinking about buying that bass too, do you recommend it? I love the sound of it

    5/5 ROCK ON!

  • Hey Thanks!

As for the Ibanez BTB I highly recommend this bass. I had bought the Yamaha trb 1006 which is twice the price but I just couldn't get into it. So I traded for the Ibanez BTB 556mp, which I think is a much better bass, good pickups, great design, easier to play, and again half the price! P.S. I don't work for Ibanez although maybe I should.

  • lol theres nuthin wrong with bein a proud supporter, i do that with my Ibanez ATK300 goin on about the switchable pickups and blah blah blah. Well im test playing a BTB today, so i now look forward to it that bit more after hearing your review

  • Greeeeat, Maan! Btb rulez!

  • Steve Bailey if the man in 6 string!!

  • this is by far my favorite impro. thing you have done on youtube. seems like you get better and better everytime i hear you. fuckin awesome.

    JC

  • this is really cool ;) good work man

  • very cool. good job

  • Hi Quaz!

  • hey man is tat the 556 amazing playing btw

  • patitucci fan ?? ^^

  • Yeah I was "Trying" to sound like Patitucci in this video. I just started playing 6 string bass and Patitucci is the player I've listened to most on this instrument. Who is your favourite 6 string bassist?

  • i really dont know a lot of 6 string players.

i thought of patitucci because he do a bass "multipiece" in one of his video.

i love his upright feel and cello touch too!
