  • Hi. I am an activated reservist and was injured while deployed. I am currently on medical hold in san diego ca and I know first hand that the military doesn't want to take care of us. It is cheaper for them to let us die than to take care of us. You can see some info on You tube woundednavywarriors. Thank you for speaking up for us. We all need help and they just brush us here under the carpet. Thank you.

  • I am a veteran myself i got out ayear ago and havent been able to find work since im vitrualy homeless... god bless america

  • This is such an atrocious situation. And here we have Bill O'Reilly saying that there are no homeless veterans sleeping under bridges in America tonight. That's just stupid. Best of luck to you. We owe you better.

  • Tom,

As an Australian Vietnam Vet, I can promise you that you express a most honourable and ethical position. There is a universality amongst Vets, a brother and sisterhood - of suffering both in-service, during service, and most deplorably after service.

You have hit a nail on the head.

Question is, how do we get the bloody politicians to add the post-war cost to Vets as a part of the whole cost of war, and then to REMEDIATE.

    Thanks,

    Jim

  • What we're now seeing in the US, Jim, is a gradual realization of the overall terrible conditions (general shabbiness, really of Veterans health care). Hiding the true costs of war is a familiar strategy and this war is no exception. Thanks for the comment.

  • We need to give any veteran, of any war we went, to for any reason (including Iraq and Vietnam and Korea), access to unlimited medical benefits, for the best care, from the best medical professionals, for life. No matter what it costs. It is the least we can do.

  • Without a doubt. Thanks.

  • You are welcome. Talk is cheap, but I'm not kidding. When we hear anybody hedging, or saying, "It's not (economically/politically)realistic" blah, blah. Bullshit. We commit to this idea now and have the faith that we can figure out how to get it done. But shaving nickels or even thousands of dollars on the backs of these guys is wrong. I oppose this war-- you can't imagine. People have the stickers on their cars proclaiming they support our troops-- prove it.

  • I don't know if you've seen the film, The War Tapes. A must. It's shot by soldiers in Iraq on camcorders. The director, Deborah Stanton, spoke at TED. She PASSIONATELY challenged the audience to do more than talk about support and moved many of us to tears.

  • wow man, this is good stuff you're posting... thanks

  • Thanks very much. I appreciate that a lot.

  • hey tom, my stepfather is a veteran and he is in his 70's and he goes to the veteran hospital, and they are using him as ginnea pigs, for cancer treatments, thats all he c an do , do to his age and money wise, but is it rigth ?

  • Your absolutely right on the money on this one! Good Video.

  • You did a great job addressing this issue without making it a political diatribe.

  • I appreciate that a great deal, Stuart. Thanks.

  • I'm glad to hear you post, Tom, on this disturbing and heartbreaking issue. We first heard about this through my husband's SOS program..several of our soldiers this year came from Walter Reed and they all reported the same thing to us. Sgt. Charles Eggleston, a wounded soldier, is an excellent advocate for these soldiers. Despite his own very serious injuries, he is tireless in his efforts to get someone to look into this.He keeps us updated on the progress..

  • Thanks, Cindy. Of course I'm very familiar with your husband's work on this issue. Anyone who is not should check out the YT channel showofsupport.

  • I'm a little shocked and disappointed that there aren't more video blogs on YT covering this topic. Strength in numbers and all that.

Beyond this, I'll just echo what others have stated here.

Oh if YT would only feature this...

  • One way to try to get things featured is to email sublinx [at] youtube [dot] com letting them know you think it should be featured.

  • Well...did you do that?

  • Tom, Once again you are "right on". You do have something to say and you continue to say it well. You have my ear. KEEP THE FAITH BABY!!!

  • I can see why people don't.. but personally I'd like to see you make more political vlogs. This was great and an important topic I think.

  • I don't recall, in ANY discussions with vets, (family members and more) from ANY war, who DIDN'T say that the Veterans Administration was seriously lacking in equipment, personnel, and quality care.

  • What is the best way to avoid being infected with HIV? Do not have unprotected sex! What is the best way to stop the bad conditions for veterans returning from the war? So not have a war in the first place.

  • Thanks for sharing your views. I think this is an issue that while political also is more than that and glad you can make that distinction. I hadn't previously heard about this issue and it is a real eye opener.

  • First I want to say, like you I don't discuss my personal views on Politics on YouTube.

Now, I agree with you 100% that our veterans deserve the best care and it's disgusting how they are being taken care of. As a society we demand so little from our government, it's not surprising that these problems are occurring today.

  • Our government have been using and throwing away our vet's as if they mean nothing. You and I know our vet's are the one's who have keep us free, but our government doesnt seem to see it that way. I wonder how the power's that be can sleep at night. Lord knows our soldiers arent.

  • Why is the floor of a gym more important that giving our soldiers the dignity that they deserve? How did $30k for improvements for the hospital disapear? Why is one person in charge of 200 wounded? Why are our soldiers being treated like scum?

  • After watching your vlog I watched Bob W's video's and read the attached article. I found myself squirming in my seat and becoming increasingly agitated. Our soldiers deserve the best quality care humanly possible without having to basically beg for it. How does paperwork and/or soldiers get lost? Why should our soldiers "suck it up" when they ask for assistance? Why is a soldier with massive brain damage given a map and told to find his room?

  • Howdy Tom. I love all your videos. Was disappointed you don't vlog about politics. I wonder if I could find a loophole in your policy? Would you vlog about the psychology of politics? Like, why do people form/hold the values/beliefs that they do? What do you think of the recent Psychology Today article saying mentally healthy people are liberal? Do you have an opinion about Justin Frank's "Bush on the Couch"? Thanks as always.

  • Well said, I completely agree.

  • great vlog, and I totally agree with you. In fact. I just made a vlog about this subject. I would love for you to watch it. I think some people are getting confused between the difference of supporting "people" vs. supporting a "war". We cannot leave anyone behind. Peace to you.

  • I think the national sentiment is pretty much as it was, as far as I have heard, as it was near the end of the Vietnam war? This treatment of returning soldiers that are wounded may follow suit. Returning soldiers who arent injured are pretty much (cant think of the word) made into heros? Thats pretty different.

  • My husband is going through the same thing. He did several tours of duty in Viet Nam. He has nerve damage in his feet and legs and all sorts of ailments associatate with the pesticides they used. He also has suffered for years with the psychological effects. It takes years to go through the processes of getting the help from the VA. Tests, tests and more tests....

  • I think it's clear that if you join the army, you get to kill people and/or get killed/injured. That's what you sign.

This does not mean that you do not deserve care but it has to be clear that you made that decision to take this risk before.

  • Hey Tom, my dad is a 31 year vet and has recently started dealing with the medical care part of the VA. It is a bunch of hoops he has to go through just to see someone, again I am very upset with the VA.

  • Sorry to hear that, Billy. After years of working with organizations what I've seen is too many good people caught up in poorly designed systems. Computers that don't work together, bad communication methods, too many unnecessary steps...unfortunately, government systems like the VA are prime examples.

  • I don't know what my family would've done when I was younger if they had to pay for all the medical care I needed. I think America needs the same and it's about time that steps are made to ensure that everyone gets looked after, including the troops.

  • This is a HUGE problem in America, BMac. Veterans certainly deserve appropriate care, but so do the rest of us, regardless of economic status.

  • I 100% agree Tom. Hopefully it comes sooner than later.

  • I agree very much with what you're saying Tom. It's such a shame and honestly I cannot fathom what it must be like to have served your country and then had everyone turn their back on you in a way. I come from a country in which, it is the belief that everyone is entitled to health care. Granted the Canadian system is not perfect, it's something.

  • Of course I was thinking about you when I made the video, George, but I did not want to presume to mention your name. I'm happy that yours was the first comment. Pops.
