Nah, the reason they have backup singers now is probably because he wanted the vocal harmonies live like on the album. He can't do both. He may be Claudio Sanchez, but he's only one man.

Whether or not he needs them is left up to the listener. The important thing to realize is that he wants them, and if he wants them, I'm not going to argue.

I agree with those who say that claudio doesn't need backup singers, because, well hey, it's fuckin claudio. the guy is amazing. but seeing how this was a huge headlining tour for CO&CA it must take a pretty big strain on his voice playing a 1+ hour show every night. Also, this show was in colorado, a ton of bands have trouble coming to CO and singing due to the thin air. So yes, the backup singers are kinda shitty, but at the same time necessary for the location and the duration of the tour.
