  • Its so nice to see a boot video without someone stepping on random toys and everyone talking about how hot it is. give me a break. thank you for putting a decent video up

  • Kinda like my GB and SAW axes, you pay for what you get... My wife stood open mouthed when I got upset at her for treating my $40 plumb hammer like crap...it took a long time for her to understand why I don't tool shop at Walmart :)

  • what is the white concoction on your whites? what's your order/process for applying oils and creams?

  • I am a wildland firefighter, I wear Nicks Hot-Shot Boots. They seem to be much better than Whites and Wescos ever though about being.

  • Dangit Cody! Your the reason I have less money now. (trying to shift blame) I had not heard of these boots until now. Thanks for the information and I look forward to receiving my new Wesco Jobmasters. Best of luck on the new homestead. From the videos you've posted so far it looks like a fine community that understands the importance of being a community. Looking out for each other. Be safe and bear arms!

  • Maybe someone can help me out. I just started a job as a residential alarm system installer. Do you think some whites or wesco boots will be to much? Mostly indoors in peoples homes.

  • Sorry for the horrible typo's!!! That should have read something like this...what type of wesco boots are in the video? I'm not sure if you mentioned the "style" of that boot but it is exactly what type of boot I'm looking for. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you sir.

  • Great video! What kind of Wesco booting in your video? I'm bot sure if you mentioned that but that partygoer boot is exactly what I'm looking for. Can you tell me what type of Wesco that is? Thank you sir.

  • Great vid Cody. Question for ya... I am in looking to buy new boots and I can't decide on White's or Westco's. Which do you think is better quality? Do you have a preference?

  • well, 600 bucks may seem extreme, but if you wear for 2 years, 730 days, that is less that a dollar a day...you gotta try them before making that sort of judgement......I know I did..........

  • @paulrbrownbr549 I have white boots that I have been wearing for over 10 years. There is a reason loggers and wildland firefighters chose whites over Danners. Danners just dont hold up. Danners are fine for light duty use. I do not consider them to be a premium boot.

  • wranglerstar : you got that right..I have 2 Nick's, and 6 Wesco's.........nothing supports my old damaged feets like these do, yes, they are expensive, but well worth it, if you can drink one less soft drink a day, you can buy a pair of these in about a year and a half.....2 less drinks, in about 9 months......need I say more.....and you feel and legs/hips will feel so much better, and you will look so much cooler....Paul

  • @wranglerstar all boots wear out. the other day I somehow broke the heel counter on my danner hood winter lights. It cracked in half. they have less than a year of hard use. the sole is also getting thin near the ball and heel. too bad premium boots cost $600 dollars

  • I have worn Danners daily for years and they hold up just fine. They are also rebuildable. $430 dollars for a boot with a huge worthless heel and no goretex!? The base model costs that much, with lining and a few useful options plus custom fit is over $600 dollars... As a working man with a family no way in hell will I buy a pair of $600 dollar work boots.

  • @Montblanc1986 We are all entitled to our own opinions. If you have never owned a pair of Whites boots your are not in a position to make any judgments whatsoever in regards to the value of owning a pair.

  • @wranglerstar How can you even walk in that 4 inch heal? I know for a fact that heals are bad for your health be careful! Seems like it would throw you off balance, especially on rough terrain or if you step on a walnut or a rock.

  • what song plays in the intro i love it

  • Awesome video! I'm not a firefighter or a tradesmen or hunter but I respect and admire well made boots. Hopefully I can find a decent pair from one of the makers you mentioned. I have a pair of Woverwines from 1988 and they were great but are on their last legs and I don't know anyone who can rebuild them. I don't know of any shop that sells Whites in the North East so I'll keep looking. Thanks a bunch for this great video!

  • Good Job...

  • Can anyone tell me if this beeswax is better for water protection than mink oil or some other natural oil? For a new boot, should one oil first then wax a few days later? or just wax? thank you if anyone helps.

  • you guys should look into VIBERG BOOT.. they are even heavier built that these.. best logging boots there is BAR NONE.. I've tried them all.. they also make other styles too.. the usual assortment

  • my friends dad is a fulltime fire fighter for CALFIRE and he wears Georgias

  • Hi Cody, Is there anyway some time you can do a video of your White's boots?

  • Hey Cody, I just wanted to say thanks for the info. I value your opinion and appreciate your knowledge. I tell you researching White's and WesCo boots is a bit of a challenge. Have you ever done a search on youtube for 'wesco boots'? let me tell you it will give you nightmares. I think yours is the only video with real information. Again thank you and god bless.

  • I heard Obenhauf's is such a safe, natural product that the owner uses it a moisturizer on his lips!

I love the stuff, although I wear German-made Meindls, cheapos compared these boots.

  • @wranglerstar Do you know of the Carolina brand of boots? I am going to be ordering a pair soon, they are similar to Whites/Wesco's in how they are made and are made in the USA at a fraction of the cost, I hope they are of similar quality!

  • i wish they made boots without heels. those look like quality but i cant find a pair that catches my fancy

  • In British Columbia Canada for us Viberg is the best boot manufacture they have been making boots since 1931. For everyday wear you can't beat Blundstone romeo they are steel toed, light on the feet and comfortable to wear.

  • Good video. While Whites and Wescos are great boots if you want the absolute best you might want to take a look at Nicks Custom Boots. Same sort of design as you see with these brands except the build quality is a lot better on the Nicks. I have worn all three as a wildland firefighter in Alaska and the difference is easy to spot in terms of leather thickness, stitching, etc. A lot of firefighters have made the switch over to Nicks in recent years because of this.

  • @dirtpig67 Do you mean Nicks Custom Boots in Toronto?

  • @scarmenl No. The one in Spokane.

  • @dirtpig67 Thank you sir.

  • @dirtpig67 Nicks is also in Spokane, but they are the quality of White's boots 30 years ago. In other words, they are tops, agreed. Smaller shop, more attention to detail.

  • Good video. Thanks.

  • Cody, Thanks for the information. That's a good idea. I'll do that. God Bless Brother. Keep the vids coming.

  • Cody, I ran out of room. My second question is about the Bee's Wax you mentioned. Can I apply that to my suede military boots, or will it discolor them to the point that they would no longer look like regulation boots? Thanks for all the videos! It would be my honor if you would friend me. God Bless you and your beautiful family. I will be posting my own vids once I return from here in late July. My wife and I just bought 12 raw acres in TN, so I'll be emulating your channel as I work!

  • @SgtCharlieKelley I'm afraid bees wax will discolor split leather. I do not know of a good military approved boot that is up to the quality of White / Wesco. Perhaps you could call them and get a recommendation

  • Hey Cody, I about fainted when you said the price, but after watching the whole video, it makes sense. I have a question for you; I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and I have tried many different brands of military tan boots and have settled on Danners. Unfortunately, you are absolutely correct. I spend between $120-150 each time I purchase a pair and I'm lucky if I get 6 months out of them. Do you know a company that makes military boots of the same quality that you're talking about?

  • @SgtCharlieKelley Wesco will make boots how ever you like them in most colors, just tell them you want a tan color i think they'll be happy to do it

  • @avi614614 Thanks, that's a good idea. I'll give that a shot!

  • This video could not have come at a better time, I am in the market for a great boot. Do you think that the boots you reviewed would be a great go to the end of the world and back boot (i.e. military style for end of the world scenario where you plan on running and gunning, but also doing gardening chores and other last day labors), or do I need to buy more of a military boot? And what do you think of Gore-Tex in a boot? Thanks for your time. Also, my wife will have to watch this video, lol.

  • @JERMBUGS yes this is the best footwear you can buy. I have used gore-tex boots from danner. Simply put you will get about 1 year out of them. If you keep a wesco/white type of boot greased it will resist allot of water.

  • @wranglerstar Thanks for the response. I have been looking at both brands of boots you suggested, I think I am going to go with the Wesco Jobmaster boot.

  • Great info. How many years did you have your boots b4 you sent them back to be refirbished?

  • @pr4runner about 7 years

  • Cody I use a hair dryer to warm the boots--it helps.

I have not warmed the wax and used a brush--good tip.

  • @MrM2hb yes this is fine however do not use the heating element. cool air only

  • Awesome video!

  • Thanks for the leather tips. I just have cheep "waterproof" Timberland snow boots. They are great quality for the price (made in China) & I only use them for a short period throughout the year. But I never thought about the coating of salt/mud from the road I haven't been properly cleaning off.

When I do need proper work boots I'll be sure to make a smart investment.

    Thanks Cody, God Bless.

  • As always Great review Cody, I called Wesco they said for no extra charge they can put in a leather shank for you, it just becomes a custom boot so theres a 12 week wait. Thats what i'm going to do, i'll tell them you sent me hopefully youll get something

  • @avi614614 this is good to know . I was not aware.

  • What do you think about mink oil?

  • this video won't play for me..gets stuck at 22 seconds..

  • Dang-on good boots Cody! You're right they are worth the price - what I like about them the most is not only the quality but the safety of the boots. Thanks for sharing!

  • Hi Cody, thanks for the information. I just started my training as a wild land firefighter yesterday, so I will be in need of some quality boots soon. One of our instructors suggested Kulien boots, saying the guys that started Whites got their start at Kulien. Made in Chehalis, WA. Have you heard of them?

  • @MobsterNine I have not. If wild land guys are using them with success they are probably ok

  • great video and nice boots

  • Good job Cody!... I have seen the same thing on jobsites. Two kinds of guys, one buys the cheepy boots and suffer, and the others see the value and importance of a good set of quality pair, work boots. I buy the quality boots every time. Carpenter Tim / (aka/MrGraygrizz)

  • Excellent video Cody, thank you for the information.

  • @0amaam If you have used both then you know that Whites are the only way to go second the bees wax repels water and it does not seal it in even if it is already a little damp. Third 6 to 8 weeks is worth every day to get a great pair of boots When you make your living on your feet! Forth White does not mass produce there boots like danner. like the military would need.

  • Great info! Your video will save people a lot of money and foot pain!!

  • i have that same leather preservative, use it for my leather knife sheaths, great stuff!

  • Great video, thanks for sharing. I always learn something from your videos. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see more on the timber frame.

  • Great vid Cody. I've been kicking the idea of getting a pair of Whites.

  • @WillfullyVague Hawthorns are made by whites. Hawthorns are a lower grade budget model that cant be rebuilt. I do not recommend them. I have tried them on and was not impressed. Go to a boot shop that carries whites and hawthorns. Try them on and you will see.

  • great video Cody

  • I use to wear Red Wing work shoes. Great! The last pair I bought was made in China and was a waste of good money. They were high priced and low quality. I,ll never buy Red Wings again. That's for the information.

  • @Hobohube Red Wing used to make a good boot. Not anymore.

  • @wranglerstar there are differnt red wings. just look for the usa logo

  • Outstanding Cody! As always, packed with useful information. Thanks!

  • Cody you're quite a salesman. I work a desk job and I'm ready to go buy a pair of these. Wow!

  • What about saddle soap for conditioning the leather?

  • @ds10363 never used saddle soap

  • Hey Cody. Good video. Whites and Wesco boots are both top notch. This will be my first fire season and im going in with a pair of Danner Flashpoint boots. I would like to have gotten Wescos but with no boot allowance and only having a part time job these will have to do.

    Again great video.

    Fox

  • 50 cents a day for your feet not to hurt. Worth it? Whats sad is when you want to go out and your looking at your shoes and your work boots are the best fitting shoes you own.

  • i have some good Asolo boots but they are for backpacking

  • Im thinking about buying a pair of haix chainsaw boots for tree climbing.

Do do you know anything about them ( pros - cons) ?

  • @00BADKARMA00 I have not hear of them.

  • As much as I like your vids Cody, I just... totally disagree w/ you on a number of points Cody... Danners, RedWing, and several others will do just fine for everyone else (those that dont have thier LIVES depend on them). Otherwise, great vid.

  • @jbr1074 Yes I made the point they will do for sportsman and such. I'm not sure where your disagreement lies?

  • @wranglerstar LOL!! I hacked that entry all up... I had intended to include my thoughts- I dont feel that plastic or fiberglass shanks are a bad thing... for lineman, and in the event of an electrical hazard, that may save ones arse- and Beeswax- while leather loves it, and it does 'waterproof' a shoe, it makes them almost totally unbreathable... Im rather fond of Mink Oil, and Linseed oil- I was taught, however to NEVER use Tung, as it is a drying oil (????)... Was a good vid though!

  • how about a blow dryer on a low setting and then rubbing it in with your hand ???

  • @texture6 never use anything with a heating element to dry your boots

  • Nice video Cody! For extreme wet and lots of walking plus cold weather what would u recommend? Thanks! Thumbs up!

  • Thanks Cody! I'm getting into firefighting and was wondering about boots, thanks for answering a lot of my questions!

  • I never mind a long video when its full of information from a person with first hand knowledge......also I have not seen a timber build update in a while, I'm just saying.....

  • Great video. Answered all of my questions, and then some.

  • Those are nice boots.

Your right footware makes a lot of difference.

  • Thanks for the info Cody I've never heard of those brands before the best I ever had was Red Wing and that was many years ago.

  • how does mink oil compare to bees wax

  • @baronmaul If you going to store your boots long term mink oil is good. For day to day use bees wax

  • Hey Cody,

What do you recommend for the be-all-end-all of laces?

  • @NoFameMotorsports When my factory laces wear out I always replace them with leather.

  • I would have never thought of the steel shank problem in the Westco's in Wildland Firefighting. I have worn Westco's since I started logging many years ago. I don't log anymore but still wear Westco's. As you showed in the last part of the video, I always had to have mine made due to my 5E width.

I really enjoyed your detailed description of the importance of quality boots. It is all spot on. My Westco's now are I believe 10 years old or more :)

    Fantastic product!

  • Love Whites. I'll keep Wesco in mind too though.

  • Good info..thanks for sharing.

  • I couldn't agree more! I bought a $250 pair of one piece leather hiking boots. I have put them through all conditions and they have always been awesome. I will always put the money out for real boots!
