The thing I like about these videos is that they show the most exciting part of a piece, such that it draws attention and makes me want to listen to the rest of it, even to a more modern piece like this Boulez work. Although it might seem like instant gratification, arguably it has also stirred many minds to listening to pieces of music they have never even known of before.
Thank you so much for posting this! It is so refreshing to hear a work like this performed so well. I especially enjoyed the warm audience reaction at the end of the video. It's a shame music like this is not appreciated in the US.
Wonderful performance! ...But this is not the PIECE number VII (as announced in the video), this is the Piece number II (which is usually played as the last piece of the cycle of "Notations")
sounds like a factory

I wish Boulez wrote more works for symphonic orchestra...such a gifted orchestrator (among other things)

Boulez seems reading an old parchment, or a hieroglyph

i think this is one of the hardest pieces ever written for orchestras, right?

I love the dichotomy between the frail old man, serenely beating time, and the savage, dissonant music unfolding before him.

i don't know boulez much, but love this piece full of energy.

I love this piece to death. I also love that no individual note is really legible in that score unless you have a magnifying glass on hand :P

This should be Notaton IV.
Both the title and the first few seconds are wrong.
Terrible mistake.

Give me the Romantics any day. They can keep this contemporary period stuff, anyway.

@tim23z Seriously - why write that? Your choice, but why come on here and bitch about it... I think it's great, anyway.

Very true (and very embarrassing for us). We will at least change this in the YouTube information.

@depaznacho You know what you have to do then. if you help them to correct their errors, ask the berliners for an invitation to conduct them :)
