  • A few of my dreads are thining in the front. How can I fix this? I really dont want them to break. HELP!! Also can you do a dying tutorial, because I want to do mine myself.

    Thanks

  • Hey beauty! im tyrone from germany but i born in the usa ;)

so my question is ho do you use the oil ? you only put it on the roots or do you put it all over your dreads / heads ? thanks and love from germany ty.

  • @TyroneBohne i just use it on my hairline

  • @chescalocs My local beauty supply has begun to sell this product. There is also a shampoo that I purchased as well. I think that I have been re-twisting in different directions and my hair has thinned at the roots in some places. I will let you know how the shampoo works.

  • I would love to look in your box :)

  • love your hair.

  • If anyone could answer my question, I would really appreciate it, I have just recently had my hair two strand twisted and they haven't loc'd yet. Im unsure of how often i should get my hair retwisted, it will be a month and a week this saturday and ill be going to get it retwisted tomorrow......should i wait for them to loc, will gettting them retwisted before they lock slow the locking process?

  • @Keldaj no it won't slow the process. It will help incorporate the loose hairs into the locs. I started with 2ST also over a year and a half ago. I would only retwist about every month and a half and I've probably gone longer through the whole process. Retwisting will only help the twist appear neater. It will take awhile for them to loc. I started budding after 1 month, but I don't think it really "felt" loced to me until nearly a year. Hope this helps

  • @nickyworth25 Thank you Nicky, i have two more questions if you dont mind answering them, wrapping my hair up in a doo-rag isnt harming it in any way is it? and having my hair put in a style even though it isnt fully locked wont stop it from locking will it?

  • @Keldaj no a doo-rag is fine. I actually use a wrap similar to a dreadsock, which has ties like a doo-rag, but has a sack so that the locs are fully covered. I got it from Wal-Mart. Just make sure that your entire hair line is completely covered to prevent lint. Also, be mindful of the friction on the hairline (don't tie it too tight). Also, styles are fine. Actually learning to style your hair now will help you deal with frizziness and awkward stages your locs will go through ;0)

  • Are you going to keep your locks forever?

  • I'm ready to try this. My hair is thinner in the middle! Wish me luck!

  • Does it have a smell? I'm always hesitant because I don't want my hair to smell really strong.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes it really does work!! I have really bad hairlines on the side of my hair! I've gotten this from having tight braids over the years. So I was almost bald on the sides. I purchased Jamaican Black Castor Oil 3 months ago and after one month discovered fuzz on my hairline. Now I have hair on my sides!! It's short but there's hair there Yiippppeee!! I love it!!! and I love your videos too!!

  • Love your vids and your creativity. How often do you use the castor oil?

  • @Vickygrl737 once or twice a day. it just depends

  • I started using JBCO August of this year, & I love it. People comment about how thick my hair looks. I also have locs & it made alot of ppl I know get locs! LOL

I also use it for my daughter's natural hair. Her beautician said her scalp is really healthy. She asked me what I use, & I told her. It's good for all hair types. Right now, I'm using the JBCO w/coconut oil. My teenage sons & husband use it too!

  • Hey Chesca, thanks for sharing:)I actually have had great results from making my own hairline growth oil, I mix jojoba oil ( a oil that mimics our own natural scalp oils), some castor oil(not too much because it is such a thick emollient I didn't want it to clog my pores), basil, peppermint, lavender, and tea tree essential oils( a few drops each per oz of carrier oil). The basil and peppermint in particular stimulate the scalp, helping with circulation and the tea tree is a natural antimicrobial

  • is JBCO just for the hairline?

  • @studkingsTVee you can use it anywhere you'd like to thicken or re-grow your hair. it can also be used to moisturize your scalp

  • So where can I buy this Jamaican Black Castor Oil...? :D Haha!! Thanks so much for making this!! You're great!

  • Nice channel...Love the lockkz, hope mine Lokk that good when there long*!*

  • hello! cool channel :D

  • I've also had success using vitamin e oil. Just buy the regular capsules, break them open and mix with any moisturizing product.

  • Hey i wrote u on fb do u have any ideas for short locs neways my pg on fb is ronald'april barnes joint page

  • has anyone ever told you that you look like malia obama?

  • @hopedawg86 nope!

  • :)

  • I love JBCO! It has been a staple in my hair journey since day 1. Great Video, Thanks for sharing!

  • #218 Pet peeve = not reading when u take the time out to make sure we have the info! ARGH! Ha! I just wanted to say that I've been using JBCO since I saw ur 1st vid on it & I too have had FANTASTIC results! Wish I would've remembered to take a before pic. My hairline is hereditarily thin so I didn't think there was much that could be done about it - but after watching your vid I thought I would at least give it a try & WALAH... thicker, filled-in edges for me! YIPEE! Big thanks!!

  • @MJsmom10 so glad to know it worked for someone with a naturally thin hairline! I just got a question about that from another subscriber so I'll pass that info on. thanks for reading the info! lol

  • And by the way happy holidays!!! My best wishes to you for 2012 :)

  • I love your locks!! Thank you for posting such an inspiring video. So where did you buy your jamaican black castor oil?lol I am kidding I couldn't resist!

  • @nwele ha! i'm glad my warning worked. i can't tell you how many times i've put things in the description box and people don't see it. thanks for watching and listening! :)

  • Hw often are you using the oil to have gotten current results? Also, mind doing a demo on the hair steamer, your routine, pros, cons, etc? Thanks

  • @tmice826 I try to use it twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed, but I don't always remember. I'd say I use it on average maybe 4 or 5 times a week. I actually don't own a hair steamer, but I'm talking to Huetiful about possibly reviewing one. Will do so as soon as I can :)

  • Fantastic results and a really useful informative video :0)

  • So I'm like obsessed with long locks. When I first started mine, I went to a health food store and simply asked the man, What can I do to have my locks grow thick and long and FAST. He handed me a bottle of JBCO and told me to put a little in a bottle with water and my favorite essential oil, spray my hair and scalp and then massage. MAN! IT really worked. Im almost 3 years in now and I finally have edges (lol) and my locks are soooo healthy! glad other people are finding out about this!

  • do i put it on my whole head or just the hair line

  • @mikedezzy231 you can use it as a moisturizer or just wherever you'd like to thicken your hair.

  • Great review...After watching your video. I started using Dr. Miracles and one of the first ingredients is castor oil. I also try to baby my edges too.

  • After I watched your first video on this i bought some & got some fantastic results as well. I used a mixture of Aloe Vera gel and the JBCO on my edges at least 3 to 4 times a week, if not everyday & 4 months later, my hairline (esp the temples) went from nearly bald to very thick & 2 inches long! So Chesca thanks for the heads up :D xx

  • @blessed100 WOW! that's awesome! so glad I encouraged you to get it!

  • So glad you covered this, and you tried it a whole year! Thanks for the review

  • Do you apply it on the hairline while your hair is dry daily? hmm..cause oil and water don't mix. I want to be consistant with this product just trying to figure out what will work for me. Keep up the amazing work.

  • @smuccilicious i apply daily to dry hair.

  • @chescalocs yeah everyone is diff...i went to a loctician once that did mine while wet and they started thinning. I've combined since then so they're pretty thick again :)

  • @Tiphany757 glad you've figured out the best regimen for your hair!

  • Chesca i want to bleach part of m afro can you do a tutorial or send me a link. please help.

  • @meanboy3 i don't recommend dying your own hair. it's best to see a professional colorist

  • I've been using jbco as well and love how it feels and smells. I just started this year and I have notice my hair line is getting thicker. Thanks for the update :-)

  • THANK YOU...IAM GOIN TO TRY IT

  • I haven't watched your videos in awhile! I forgot how pretty you are!

  • @Noviiay aw thank you! glad you're back! :)

  • Thanks for sub.that vid. To me o gots to try that out...

  • ugh i cant find this kind anywhere. instead i had to buy the kind made by hollywood beauty. but i have a question, do you this this would work for thin edges if its a hereditary issue? the right side of my hair is naturally thinner than my left side. ive been told that my hair has been this way since birth. also my mom has fine hair and she's trying to nurse it back to health and make it fuller, will the castor oil help make her fine hair fuller?

  • @PrettiBoiShai well i put a link to it on amazon in the video description box if you're interested in trying that kind instead of the one you're currently using. considering JBCO works on damaged hairlines, i can't imagine why it wouldn't work for someone who's hair is naturally thin. I would think that'd be easier to repair than one that's been chemically damaged.

  • @PrettiBoiShai hey! just got a comment from someone with a naturally thin hairline that had great results with JBCO so I'm guessing it'll work for you too!

  • @chescalocs thanks chescaleigh

  • Your hairline lks great.Regular castor oil works too so long as its unrefined and cold pressed!

  • I use it, but I don't always remember to put it on everyday. When you use it, do you put it on during the day or at night?

  • @NottyGurlStyle same here. i try to put it on in the morning and in the evening. i keep my bottle in my medicine cabinet next to my toothbrush to remind me to use it.

  • Just wanted to comment that you sound GREAT in your video! I love the way you speak and present. So polished and refined! You go girl.

  • @OneikaTraveller wow, you guys are making me blush! my mom and I actually talked about this in the video we filmed together. this weekend. when you hear my mother speak you'll see where I get it from. my parents ALWAYS stressed that I speak proper English and my father even fined me for using "yeah" as a kid! kids teased me relentlessly about my "white girl speech" but I'm so glad my parents encouraged me to take pride in my voice and present myself in an intelligent manner.

  • @chescalocs Same here. My mother always was an advocate of proper speech and ensured that I knew which register of speech to use and with whom. I also got the "white girl" teases but luckily I had enough strength of character to brush them off and continue to speak as I pleased. I taught a speech and presentation class to high school kids and couldn't stress enough the importance of crisp, elegant speech! Anyway, your vids just get better and better. Geez. Give this girl a TV show!

  • @OneikaTraveller I hear this same story more and more as my videos reach more people. it makes me sad, but I take pride in the fact that I'm able to lead by example and hopefully show young people watching my videos that taking pride in how you speak and present yourself is nothing to be embarrassed by or made fun of for. thanks for continuing to support me Oneika. It really means a lot!

  • @chescalocs Honestly, no worries! I'm seriously just tickled pink by your success and even more tickled by your continued positive representation of us black girls! I've been super motivated by your videos and actually was out and about today trying to shoot one of my own (currently in Berlin for the holidays). Seeing you rock it out and inspire via Youtube is pushing me to produce more travel vids. I'm hoping to be the Chescaleigh of black travel :)

  • @OneikaTraveller Does Patrick ever help you to shoot or produce your vids? I try to get my boyfriend to help me but we both end up cracking up argh! And of course I feel embarrassed filming on location LOL. I know you've done a few videos outside of your apartment. How do you deal with people looking at you while you film?

  • @chescalocs SAME HERE!!!!!!!!..... i was alway call the "Valley Girl" and now the "OMG.... Amber"...... lol.... i laugh at it now but growing up in harlem back in the day........ was not funny...... LOL.

  • @sugarcanej kids can be really cruel. i cried many tears over those taunts as a kid, but i'm stronger as a result, as I'm sure you are too :)

  • i know you get this all the time, but you are one beautiful black woman and your hair is beautiful too. i hope im not being offensive by saying this.

  • @universalaura aw thank you! actually my best friend messaged me after seeing this video to tell me to work on the bags under my eyes LOL i love him anyway, he keeps me humble :) but thank you, I appreciate your kind words. not offensive at all

  • Girl......I don't have locs, but I think you are the bomb!!! You are funny and most of all... talk with sense. You don't get on you tube looking busted, tore down and plain ghetto! lol I have twist but I use your styles on my twist and it works great!!

  • @curtisa824 haa! this comment made my day! thank you so much!

  • Your teeth are so WHITE!

  • I retwist my hair when its dry and I don't have any breakage, I don't like retwissting when its wet

  • @Tiphany757 everyone's hair is different. but typically African American hair is somewhat coarse so the hair is weaker when it's dry. but if your method works for you that's what's important.

  • Question: Is it ok to continue to twist my dreads for years and years, for example I palm-roll the dread in its entirety. I'm concerned that this may cause my hair to fall out or w/e

  • @zzdesolatezz my advice is to listen to your hair. it isn't going to just fall out overnight. it will become thinner at the root before breaking off which is a clear sign that you're overdoing it. if that's the case, give your hair a rest. if you're palm rolling for maintenance and you're happy with the results, there's no reason to change methods. but no, twisting over years should not lead to breakage if you practice good habits and don't overdo it.

  • @chescalocs Thx for the info much appreciated :)

  • do the oil have a heavy smell?

  • @jnatta280 well everyone's sensitivity to smell is different. some people have said it smells, but i don't think so. if you're bothered by the smell you can always mix it with tea tree, peppermint or jojoba oil

  • I'm gonna get some.

  • Hey now I have actually mixed both with other essential oils and have great results. I was coloring and twisting & styling like crazy. Giving your loc's a break is the best thing we could ever do. The difference in the the cold pressed castor oil and the JBCO is JBCO doesn't have the lightening agent the OTC brands do but works almost as well.

  • @Blaquegoddess13 thanks for clearing that up!

  • @chescalocs Ur welcome GURL your vids are wonderful!

    x;0)

  • My locs are thinning on the sides and in the back and IM PETRIFIED!!! HELP! ANY SUGESTIONS?

  • @Tamarje81 did you watch this video? it's all about using Jamaican Black Castor oil for hair thinning....

  • Tropic Isle Living JBCO...I thought that I would not never get a hair line lol. On a serious note it works. I order mines from Shea Butter Cottages and it's not that expensive seeing that it is not normally found in the UK. I have been using it for over 6months and I love it, reminds me of Haitian Oil (might be the same ingredients tho) that I've used to use when I was back home in the Caribbean.

  • I use it but gosh it stinks. so i only put it on if im not going out. i also mix grapeseed oil with it

  • @cynmille2000 i've heard a few people say it smells, but mine doesn't have an odor. maybe it's the brand you purchased? you can also mix it with peppermint or jojoba oil if the smell bothers you

  • Hey Chesca! Thank you for the review, it was great! On another (random) note, I was wondering if you had a video on this or your other channel on your tragus piericing. I'd like to have mine done but I'm a chicken lol. Was it very painful? :)

  • @mayaangelique no, i don't have a video on it. i got mine in high school and i don't remember it hurting at all. i think you have to be prepared for piercings to hurt through. i mean, it is a hole in your body! lol

  • But thus far I've had good results with my locs. I've even sprouted a baby loc around my edges. I'm hoping to see continued positive results as time goes on.

  • I started using JBCO about 2 mos ago. Im 15 mos into my loc journey and I'm hoping it helps. I've always (since birth) had really thin, fine edges so I was apprehensive to loc my hair

  • Hey @Chescalocs what do you use to keep your face clear and moisturized? any natural products?

  • @suzichica15 hey! check out my skincare routine video :)

  • a great way to give your hairline a rest is to not twist (or braid) your hair for a few weeks. massaging gently around the hairline stimulates growth too. i must say i keep going back and forth between whether I want a new braid style, or if i want to do locs..im thinking locs! Your hair is gorgeous!

  • So where do you purchase Jamaican Black Castor Oil again?..... Kidding! Lol. Thx for the great vid.

  • @jejebenji ha!!! i guess my warning worked! no one's asked yet! lol

  • @jejebenji lol

  • Great vid! I use Dr. Miracle Hot Gro on my scalp. I usually just massage it into my scalp after I wash my hair. It has thickened my locs and made them stronger. I'm only 16 months into my loc journey but out of everything this works best for me. It really stimulates my hair it says on the container that it wakes up those weak and/or sleeping hair folacles. I don't use product when I retwist so there is nothing else on my scalp! It is my holy grail! Haha! I cant live without my Hot Gro!

  • I love JBCO!! I've only been using it consistently for a few months. I initially wanted it for my hair, but I saw some YT videos that it can help grow eyebrows and lashes. So I tried it because I have naturally sparse eyebrows, I definitely see a positive change.

  • @amocha82 i'm a little weary of putting it near my eyes, but i might put some on my eyebrows

  • @chescalocs I agree completely, eyes are very sensitive. You should give the brows a try. I'm glad I found a cheap alternative than what they have on the market.

  • semi freeform for 3 to 6 months will also help you hair line...

  • I always enjoy your videos! You manage your brand so well. Some YT natural hair "gurus" or personalities have ridiculous egos that I can't watch their videos even if they provide good info. You on the other hand present good info with just the right amount of confidence, kindness, and professionalism. Well done.

  • would a product like this help to thicken Caucasian hair as well? or is it more suited to coarser hair?

  • @StoliDassah another great question! yes, this product works on all hair types. but for Caucasian hair it's best advised to apply at night and then wash out the next day since it is an oil and your hair texture is best when dry as opposed to oily. There are some YT videos on using castor oil on Caucasian hair as a hot oil treatment

  • @chescalocs thanks from the quick answer! will go search YT for vids. :)

  • @chescalocs well I usually wear my hair in twists, both natural and with extentions; but I will definitely look into yarn braids! Thanks! @mspraisegirl1 thanks, ill keep that in mind! Appreciate the help :)

  • I know, I'm extremely indecisive :/. Maybe someday I'll get the courage lol

  • @alwaysalicia well you could always get yarn braids or two strand twist extensions to try it out!

  • @chescalocs I have a question about the usage of JBCO. I don't know if you have done a video on how this previously in the past, but I wanted to know when and how do you apply the oil? I mean, do you wash your hair first and THEN apply it? Do you apply at night before bed? What's your process? I don't have locs, just kinky, natural hair, but I stumbled across this video because it was very informative. My goal is to grow out my edges and I'm thinking about using the oil as in alternative.

  • @ebonylikethemagazine if you watch the original video (it's linked in the video description box) I show you how I apply it. totally forgot to include it in this video. sorry about that. i just put a little on my fingers and then massage it into my hairline. i try to do it in the morning and before bed, but i don't always remember. if you have an African American hair texture it doesn't need to be washed out because it will be absorbed by your hair and skin.

  • @ebonylikethemagazine but for Caucasian hair textures it's recommended to apply over night and then wash out the next morning.

  • i have heard that coconut oil is pretty good. That is what i use now.

  • I just want to say it is so nice of you to allow us to share your videos. Thank you so much. =)

  • @jsix4evr well thank you for sharing! I made sure to include that in my new voice over because a lot of people ask and I want to make sure everyone knows I'm ok with it. thanks for the support!

  • Gaaaah you make me wanna get locks sooo bad! Unfortunately I get tired of the same hair too often. But UGH!

  • @alwaysalicia if there's anything you should learn from my videos it's that locs are incredibly versatile. you don't have to wear them the same way every day!

  • @alwaysalicia you know when you start locks they change everyday... so if anything you will be tired of the inconsistancies

  • When I was relaxed I had a bald spot in the back of my head. After a few months of JBCO the spot started filling in.

  • @HazelEyedErica it really works!

  • Hey there! Great video. Just wondering if you would consider making baby locs out of your newly grown edges? Would that technique possibly preserve them even further or have the opposite effect?

  • @mschris014 good question! I'm not sure if it would help or harm my hairline, but because my hair is so long, I don't think i'd want to have little baby locs framing my face. i think it would look a little weird on me. but who knows, that might be an option in the future!

  • I haven't but check out tonidaleys channel she just did a review on a product, however regular castor oil was a staple for my mom back in the day to thicken your hair and it works..u could also infuse that oil with peppermint leaves/and or oil, rosemary oil, ylang ylang oils to stimulate growth..

  • @ObedienceOrSacrifice thanks! i'm subscribed to her, so i'll definitely check out her video

  • I love JBCO! I don't really have problems with breakage or thinning. But, I like using it all over my locs as a moisturizer.

  • wow i got to look into that one thanks

  • I took down my 3 yr old locs for this very reason. I only retwisted every 6-8 weeks, so no overtwisting. I think that when I combined my locs at about the 18 month mark, the locs ended up being too large for my hairline. My locs were not large by any means but I for my edges, I just think they had too much weight. Now I am concentrating on growing my hairline back while my hair is loose. I've always been fearful of walking around with no edges and I just couldn't risk it. Thanks for making this

  • Yes, the JBCO has helped revive my hairline, after a certain edge control product thinned it out. I have been moisturizing my edges and sealing them with the JBCO several times a week (started off using it daily), for a few months now. Edges are looking good, longer and thinner! Thanks for this update.

  • jbco stinks but it works lol

  • @DaNellyExperience mine doesn't have an odor

  • Do you bleach your locs by yourself or a stylist does it for you? Just wondering :)

  • @kookypuff23 i did them myself, but i wouldn't recommend anyone do the same. dying locs can be really tricky because they tend to hold in dye and can be difficult to fully rinse. my bleached hair has broken off in a lot of places as a result. thankfully, i didn't dye my entire head, and i did it years ago, so it wasn't very much hair that came off. my suggestion would be to see a professional colorist if you want to dye your hair

  • hehe first..
