Angenommen es kommt was mit 1000km/h geflogen und das Ding hat einen Radarradius von 15km dann wärn das 30.000m : 277m/s = 108s die ein Flieger aufm Radar ist, die effektive Reichweite ist wahrscheinloch noch wesentlich begrenzter. Wie soll das Teil da bitte gegen ein modernes Jagdflugzeug ankommen? Das Teil hätte im zweiten Weltkrieg vlt einen Sinn gehabt aber heute kann ich mir wenig Nutzen vorstellen !

@dustz33 Gegen Hubschrauber nützen die teile was! Infrarotraketen haben probleme weil meist Täuschkörper eingesetzt werden. Mit Flak kann man einen Hubschrauber sekundenschnell runterholen...;)

@dustz33 das radar und computersystem ist gekoppelt. der kann so schießen, das die geschosse bei maximalreichweite auf das ziel treffen. maximale reaktionszeit des systems bis abschuss der MK: 2,8sec. dess weiteren kann das system auch berechnen, wenn das ziel hinter einem hinderniss auftaucht und es dann auch treffen.

und, ein flugzeug und ein kampfhubschrauber brauchen zur zielauffassung mindestens 5sec. eher 8 sec. das flugzeil fehlt auf dann auf jeden fall....

Yes, of course, but i´m not talking about the missiles, i only think that the flakpanzer´s two heavy guns might destroy the a-10, because the a-10 has to fly stright tothe flakpanzer to shoot at it and here the two reasons why it might go down:

1. it has no front armour 2. it´s a flying object, the will miss the target many times

1 35mm shell can destroy an A-10 but the A-10 Weapon systems have a longer Range the A-10 Gatling cannon can damage the flakpanzer criticaly.

only advantage of the A-10 are his missiles wich allow him to kill the flak panzer from a long range.

Gepard is based on the Leo1...it has a much better aiming system than the russian Tunguska...and therefor just outperforms it. You can equip it with Stingers, you can fight with optical aiming devices, the radar is very hard to jam and you can control it out of bunkers etc.

Der Gepard hat keine MGs (Maschinengewehre), sondern MKs (Maschinenkanonen). Da besteht kalibermäßig schon ein gewaltiger Unterschied. Und außerdem hat der Gepard keine 40er, sondern 35mm-MKs.

Und mit solchen Kanonen macht man verdammt große Löcher in Flugzeuge! Selbst moderne Schützenpanzer wären ziemlich aufgeschmissen, wenn sie von den Dingen eins auf'n Deckel bekämen.

Radar und Feuerleitanlage reichen beim Gepard locker, um einen schnellen Jet vom Himmel zu holen.

Allerdings ist er nur gegen tief und sehr tief fliegende Ziele gut. Aber genau dafür wurde er ja konzipiert!! Und in dem Gebiet wird er auch in erster Linie verwendet. Für alles andere gibt es ja Roland und die Patriotstellungen...

Manchmal wird er auch zu Basisverteidigung gegen Bodenziele eingesetzt - mehr als Abschreckung denk ich, aber das macht er sicher auch ganz gut!!

In der Tat. Für hochfliegende Jets ist der Gepard keine Gefahr. Das sagt einem ja jede Ballistiktabelle.

Er dürfte allerdings auch bei Bekämpfung von Bodenzielen mehr als nur abschreckende Wirkung haben. Ich denke, dass man auch einem ausgewachsenen Kampfpanzer mit den 35ern ganz schön zusetzen kann. Freilich kommt man damit nicht durch die Panzerung, aber die Sichtgeräte kriegt man allemal kaputt und genau das kann einem dann den Hintern retten, wenn's heiß hergeht...

As far as I know it still is. The Gepard is still on the KMW website as a production vehicle. From what I can tell, the radar has been upgraded and surface to air missles added to suppliment the guns.

Roland and Rapier are missile-systems, the gepard is a gun-platform. The gepard was built to attack airplanes in low height, so it's difficult to say witch system is better. It's a fact that the gepard is very powerful against airplanes up to a distance of five kilometers and a height up to 3,5 kilometers and that rapier is very old and going to be substituted. Comparing those systems doesn't make any sense, because they were built for different assignments.

I agree somewhat. Today warever, most soldiers don't even see action. They're just told to take a position with minor fighting. It's all about Artillery and Airforce in modern warefare... they do all the work, while Infantry just occupies. No. AA-cannons have many advantages towards missile systems. But you'll get the best Anti-air defence if you combine the two types. I think they say in the clip that the Gepard is working together with the ROLAND-system.

Cannon-systems are mainly used to protect armoured battalions from low flying attack helicopters or low flying aircrafts in general. Many countries use systems similar to the Gepard, Swedish Lvkv, English Marksman, Russian Tunguska to mention a few.

AA fire can be more effective than a SAM site. The Gepard can probally take out low flying helicopters which SAM's may be decoyed by the chaff all modern helicopters or aircraft carry.
