  • Oh the nonsensical shenanigins I would have with this

  • they need to make a real frequency analyzer to analyze each frequency in the signal so when you have a noise it will give you which frequency it is and you can eliminate it or limit it without effecting on the whole signal of the guitar , thats a true frequency analyzer we would love to see in the market

  • @paintingglass thats what im talking about!

  • why is it that when i buy all the pedals that i wanted there just ends up being more pedals i want...gear i should say but here latley i have been a pedal whore

  • Lots of potential in this pedal me thinks, with numerous forms on input.

Guitar wise I particularly like the sound when there's predominantly dry signal with the ring mod adding interest in the background... very cool pedal !!

  • ZZTop use it for about 3 seconds in Cheap Sunglasses(?)and Todd Rubdgren uses one on Treatise on Cosmic fire.

It's great for when you need that certain sound but please, dont just turn it on and jam with it, it sounds SO shit!

  • I must thank you PGS for making me addicted to guitar pedals!

  • For those of you who don't know what a ring modulator is for, have a listen to the solo on Paranoid by Black Sabbath. This demo doesn't do the pedal justice at all.

  • This is the greatest prog pedal of all timesies.

  • You can get a really cool and interesting sound if you have someone that play the guitar, bass or whatever and you turn the knobs up and down to change the parameters. Plus you can connect a delay after the ring modulator to make the sound cooler!

  • i love the blues,

but i wish pro guitar shop would realize that if you are demo-ing a RING MOD pedal you should play some other style of music. how many times do you hear blues artists use a ring mod?

  • no distortion using this demo, clean tone to pedal?

  • Crazy..

  • Weird, GOTTA HAVE IT! There's no end to my geekines!

  • Neo/Nano Frequency Analyzer plz!!!!!

  • the FAP petal. lol...

  • @luckyjinxer haahaaaa!:)

  • STUPID!

  • @bpl711 Nice name

  • Sounds like a really good way to add something interesting into a fuzz tone if you have it low.

  • This sounds like a pick is stuck in the nut.

  • this is a great pedal for PROG

  • i can get this effect by strapping a tin bucket to my head and playing an out of tune guitar in a well.... :(

  • Have anyone here ever tried the reverse delay on the Boss dd-20 and putting the time to 1ms the level at max and the feedback att zero. It sounds alot like the this

  • I love using my Frequency Analyzer as overdrive, just keep the blend real low and tune to whatever key you're in.

  • Cool, a pedal that makes your guitar sound like shit. I need one of these.

  • Im glad I use the digitech whammy for pitch modulation and not this thing....

  • @Zwikster Two totally different pedals, man...

  • @Zwikster That's like saying 'I'm glad I don't use a chorus pedal for metal distortion'. Obviously you don't know what a ring modulator is.

  • With the right settings this pedal can create some beautiful analogue sounds à la the Forbidden Planet soundtrack. You won't get good results playing blues riffs through it, though. That's not what a ring modulator is for.

  • lol you can see andys reflection

  • Get your Hammond into this baby !

  • I've never understood the point or use of a ring modulator, they just sound horrible to my ears. Good demo though

  • @wirelessrock Well it's made for this effect, that's what makes it interesting.

  • @wirelessrock it really depends on the context. As much as I love Andy's playing, hearing pop songs played through this pedal does it absolutely no justice. Granted, there aren't too many applications for this pedal in mainstream music but it can be used in very interesting and musical ways. I suggest checking out Wayne Krantz and Rudder.

  • I've yet to hear a hit song with a guitar playing thru a ringmodulator.

  • @yetonGhul not hit, but Glass by Incubus is a great example

  • @yetonGhul the radio is a box of hellish deceit.

  • it takes a really BAD pedal to make Andy sound like sh*t!!!

  • buddy holly! good song

  • I think this thing sounds retarded

  • @dudemanaric The only thing which makes this pedal usefull to my mind is that you can play high and low tunings without detune your guitar. It makes it easier to play on dropped C while your guitar is in normal tuning...

  • There is a difference between the frequency analyzer and the the mxr blue box, right?

For whatever reason, they seem to have a few sounds that sound alike... some of the synth effects reminded me of the blue box, but they are totally different types, ones a distortion, ones a ring modulator!

  • @seventhsamuel mxr is an octaver with added fuzz so the lower you go on the blend knob the fuzzier it goes. i use 80% of the time going through my cry baby. sound amazing. the blue box generally gives out that sound heard on "blue orchid" by the white stripes

  • @OriginallyInspired JW uses an Octave Up+down effect on that song. THe ring mod effect is an accident of that effect

  • i want to XO version of this, very cool pedal

  • @Euphoriaman there is one

  • @Euphoriaman

i ment I want 'the' XO version, smaller, same effect, awesome :)

  • @Euphoriaman

i ment I want 'the' XO version, smaller, same effect, awesome :)

  • So useless , but i bet they sold a lot of those .

  • Thats because guitar players are not "studio" people or even can pronounce "analyzer" because as we all know, guitar players are like skaters = IQ =0.5

  • yeah! (idiot)

  • Yeah, because john mclaughin, frank zappa and jonny greenwood are all retards.

  • Do you realize how many people play guitar? hahah. I have a 143 IQ, I've been playing for 7 years.

  • @hedegaard8 cool story bro

  • This appears to me to be basically the most enjoyable pedal to *uck around with in the entire world. Awesome. My wife thanks you for playing this so I now have to build a clone of this too.. /fail

  • The ring mod is super easy to build, its just 4 diodes in a ring and a couple inputs and an output. You might have trouble getting a good oscillator built for it though

  • damn good review btw Andy a ring mod has to be one of the harder ones to make a demo for

  • @buzzsaw1003 run the synth through a mixer. most synths have a ring mod function anyway though. if youre using analog atleast

  • you can see andy's reflection playing :D

  • god thats horrible

    definitely have some uses though

  • Listen to pendulous threads by incubus... the most intense ring modulator riff ever.

  • These are by far the best demos

  • sounds like DEVO a bit, cool stuff.

  • devo actually used this, good call man.

  • wat lips song(s) did he use a ring mod on?

also do u know wat type of ring mod he used?

  • I would say "Kim's Watermelon Gun" the intro is obvious ring mod. I would also say all the radio sounds in the beginning of "Turn it on".. THats all thats coming to mind at the momment.

  • ron used it a lot. "lightning strikes the postman" is another one i believe.

  • Roulette Dares - The Mars Volta

  • is this the pedal they use in that song?...cause holy fuck thats a sick song.

  • It's the Moogfooger; the Moog version of this pedal. It's used in Eriatarka and some others as well.

  • I know Omar uses the Moogerfooger Ring Mod in a lot of songs, but I believe i read somewhere that he does use the Frequency Analyzer in Roulette Dares, and I'm positive he owns one

  • he has like 9999 pedals....

  • that's over 9000 pedals ;)

  • I don't care 'bout that!

  • Comment removed

  • Brad from the band "The Slip" used to use this pedal constantly at shows and was always able to get some very amazing sounds out of it.

  • Weezer's "Buddy Holly" at 4:10

  • Buddy Holly is only 2:39..

  • I don't care what they say about us anyway.

  • what about demoing the moogerfooger ring mod now?

it would be great to compare them.

  • The moog is definitely less subtle and more versatile.

  • just my opinion, but i wouldn't go as far as to saying that there's nothing musical about the effect.

modulation effects are awesome when applied well.

  • Nice demo but you can't polish a turd.

  • if you blend it right you get wierd overtones. or if you get good at it you can follow the frequencys made by the modulator and make harmonies but thats very hard

  • There is nothing musical about this effect.

  • Ah... Tell John McLaughlin that! Hahaha... Check out his version of Gary Thomas' "The Divide" for some unreal use of the ring mod.

  • or i guess, understood the appeal.

  • Neither have I, but it may be fun to mess around with some!

  • The point of ring mods is to create sounds that are usually heard with avant-garde type music. Think this + memory man + wah. Total spacious ambience.

  • switch the wah with a phaser :)

  • Or phaser AND wah...and Chorus...and flange...and Midfi electronics pitch pirate-oh crap...just jizzed...

  • i've never seen the appeal of ring modulators...

  • Listen to "Use of Light" by Kurt Rosenwinkel

    might change your mind
