this man was just free-flowing when he did this, talent like this from this era of singers will never be equaled by today's artist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Add another great musician to the list of retarded musicians who have so much pity for themselves that they self destruct. Hey fuck its called life and you do get your ass kicked. But man up. Thanks for the music coward.
@bolder2009 oh boohoo. Hey, don't get me wrong, the dude was talented as fuck but you must admit he basically shit it away. Like Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, Cobain. I guess you are well within your right to indulge in your little fantasy, that going from being hugely successful, to becoming a drug addict, a thief, then broke & living in the very same fathers house that treated him so bad is the status of a successful musician..hey hey, more power to ya. So abused but when he had nowhere to go...
@gwynethgodxperiment Forget about about a person's personal life. You're not perfect or anyone else walking on this planet so who are you to judge....Phenomenal talent he was.
@gwynethgodxperiment What are you talking about? Retarded musician? Coward? If you were abused by your father as a child and raped by your uncle you too might experience moments of self pity. Your ignorance and judgemental comment says more about the type of person you are. Good luck with that great big heart of yours.
This blows me away every time I see it. Him laying on the couch singing like a champ. His voice is still silky and soulful despite his lazy couch performance. Wow...is all I can say!

"Yawn.......I want you........" (in perfect tune). WOW!!!! Rehearsal? They could have put THIS on wax and it would have been a one number one hit. Insane..........

Is this taken from Trouble Man documentary? When Marvin stayed in Ostend Belgium with his friend in 1980 - 81, in order to clean himself up. Unfortunately, he went back to the US to promote Sexual Healing, the rest is history.
@agfagaevart He intended to stay in Europe. He only returned back to the states because his mother was ill. He moved back into the home he bought for her, which is also where his father lived. There relationship was always strained, and it seems fate had positioned them on a collision course from the day he was born. Once the success of the single and Midnight Love album took off, all the old habbits resurfaced. The demons that he had battled against for years finally won the war.
@agfagaevart Had he stayed in Europe he may still have fallen off the wagon again, but we'll never know. While the success of his last album returned him to commercial relevance it also led him back to old vices he had left behind. It's been said by some of the staff who were on the 1983 North American tour, that the amount of cocaine that was consumed on the road was unprecedented even by the standards of Rock 'N' Roll excess. Some who were close to him say that he wanted out.
@agfagaevart If you're interested, I'd recommend you read 'Howling At The Moon' by Walter Yetnikoff who was the head of CBS records at the time. There is a passage in the book where he recounts an experience he had with Marvin Gaye during the height of the success of SH. Its interesting to say the least. And if you haven't already read 'Divided Soul' by David Ritz (which began as a collaboratve autobiography with Marvin Gaye before he died), then I highly recommend it.

ok i see we got 22 haters!! this piece is cold! first of all he is loaded out out his mind, lyin down and still killin it! the bass player looks like rick james, the drummer like oj simpson, guitar player like samuel l jackson, and the piano players jerri curl rocks!!!
why would you have to pound this music into anyone's head? Marvin has an everlasting appeal to the ears of the more sensitive beings of this world like myself!
"We're talking about practice, man. I mean, how silly is that? We're talking about practice. I know I'm supposed to be there. I know I'm supposed to lead by example . . . I know it's important . . . I honestly do. But we're talking about practice, man. What are we talking about? Practice?"
-Allen Iverson
Marvin's practice is better than a lot of people's best RIP
This is a time when making good "music" was the focus...Look at the intensity, the passion...this ain't a keyboard just producing sounds, and punch in's...I miss real music
Just FYI...It's Deon Estus on bass and after Marvin he went on to be the 3rd member of Wham and then continued to play with George in his solo career. Go listen to Deon's song "Heaven Help Me" which came out in 1989. Deon has also got a new single called "Only Love Is Real" check him out and get hip!!!! Peace.
I still smile and say WOW every time I see this amzing piece of film. Marvin's got perfect pitch, just lying down SO casually, while he's practicing in rehersal. Who can top that??!
So many have learned from this great artist/poet on wht it takes to make music with so much feel in and emotion tht it puts u in whatever feeling tht the artist wants......true master of music Marvin!
to make music is one of the beautiful and fun ways of having communion everybody playing his part backing up eachother in his own special way thats how life should be
Good music will never go out of style!!!!!!! That is how you do it my friends, all the way live! The band was on point great music!!!!!! The voice was flawless, Natural flow!!! The most Smoothest and controlled voice ever ,High or Low!!!! This man is a blessing to hear!! Effortless not enough words to describe MARVIN GAYES Talent !!!!
r&b singers suck today.the song is and performance is better than their whole album.everything is so auto tuned up,you can't hear the artist voice.we need to get back to the basics.
@solaidback21 rick james played the bass guitar for quite a few of the greats. look hard, you'll see that's young rick james. he just looks young and healthy.
@mrmiykael This is durning Marvin's comeback in early 80's, this either just before or right after Marvin left Motown and signed with CBS. Rick was the star at Motown at this time and you couldn't get him to do back up for anybodu. At this point he was " Rick James Biatch" lol...IS50 has the musicians listed under show more the bass player is Deon Estus.
GREAT, i knew he was talented but didnt know he was that talented......laying on the couch while singing like that...today they jump all over the room and most of em still sound like shit !
@Forw1072 Hell yeaah... me too That would have been awsome! waoowwww!!...!! 100% agree with you, just something small, something humble but being there being able to see it,here it, feel it... amaazing that must be...
Who else notices he was laying down when he started? Man dude true vocals come from the heart , don't matter how much traingin you have had...if you can sing you can plain and simple.
This rehearsal gives me the flat out chills!! I mean if you really listen, you will hear how tight this band is.I mean Damn is50 where can I see this whole video or rehearsal in its entirety? "Greatest Post Ever"!!!!!!!!!!!
go grab any singer in the game and i guarantee they cant finese it like marvin did this....look at the energy in the room and hes not even trying hard looks like.......a legend

Marvin Gaye's is the artist that I most identify with.
I tried emulate his music earlier in my life.
This brother was so sensual...
His Music did provide sexual healing for many of us during lovemaking
The first time I made love, "I want You" was playing on my cassette deck.
His music helped me, and HEALED during some very trying times......
These songs are dedicated to Nicci. Girl you were my first love
I think of you often....Thank You for allowing me in your life

@mrmiykael That is not Rick James...
solaidback21 9 months ago
@solaidback21 rick james played the bass guitar for quite a few of the greats. look hard, you'll see that's young rick james. he just looks young and healthy.

@mrmiykael This is durning Marvin's comeback in early 80's, this either just before or right after Marvin left Motown and signed with CBS. Rick was the star at Motown at this time and you couldn't get him to do back up for anybodu. At this point he was " Rick James Biatch" lol...IS50 has the musicians listed under show more the bass player is Deon Estus.
