The beauty of her singing was amazing....beautiful legato, phrasing, and beauty of tone. I was not particularly fond of her upper register, but when it came to moments like this that separate the real singers from the flash in the pan stars, Tebaldi always excelled. Beautiful!

Yes, Zeani succeeded Tebaldi at San Carlo's Traviata productions and sang the role for many years. The Traviata programme of the theatre has beautiful pictures of both of them.

Tebaldi was not completely satisfactory as Violetta, but time and time again the sheer beauty of the voice triumphed in this role and moved me to tears; this is one of those moments. How fortunate we were to have had such a singer as she.
