First, this isn't technically an "overflow". It is a drain. There is a hole drilled in the tank about 6 inches down from the top. If you simply attached a 90 degree elbow to the hole and let a pipe go from there to the surface, then only 1/4 inch or so of water would return to the sump in a power failure. That is also true with this design. But I really think you completely missed the point here. This design skims the top of the aquarium (like any drain) and also pulls water off the bottom
Still I don't understand...If you make the hole at the top of vertical wall (aprox. same level where is your top) very small quantity of water will go back in sump after electrics goes off? Right?
I never understood why people instead of such a overflow don't make one hole on vertical wall close to top? That way you would avoid that tube passing through all tank?
@MosquitoSoftware well let me explanin okk sooo if you do a hole in the tank and the powerline or energy shuts down the water will go into the sump and the sump will overflow but if you have an overflow and energy goes off the water will stop running into the sump and it will all stay in place............Understand?
Great drain.
Who wants to syphon all that water, when it comes to a total washout once a year. ?
