Does a 500 have a 6 speed gearbox like the ex250? Just asking because I ride an '07 250 Ninja and I'm having a blast with the 6 speed and the 14,000 rpm redline. Little bike sounds great (nice banshee wail) shifting at ten grand. I know the 500 is faster (and has a more comfortable riding position than a 600 supersport for my long trip to work) than a 250, I was just wondering if it's as much fun.
@kraig7777 the 500 is loads of fun. I try and ride my as much as I can. you can check a vid I put up of the acceleration. Only have up one vid for now though.

Bikes have straight line acceleration but they're fussy about rpms and they peter out and hit the top speed quicker but the top speed is lower to a compareable car. Watch the video of a Lambo vs a ducati 999 DAMN close race, bike only won in the straights, it was nearly run over in the corners.
clearly a car has 4 wheels so corners are taken faster. i thought that was pretty logical. btw bikes are tough to launch with a lot of power to not get the wheel up, therefore a car would get better starts a drag strips but loose down the road

Oh they can. Hell I can go over 100 mph. But the ninja 500 doesn't really have much top end power once you get to that speed compared to a 600cc bike. The ninja 500 will however beat most street cars.
Yea, thats true, they're acceleration kinda dies out after 90 or so. They still get moving, but if a car kept up with it til then, the car will start to pull after that.

acctually im 100% sure this is a cobalt ss sc with stage 2 AND catback exhaust, because i was there when we put it on. Also it depends what speed your friend raced the r6 at, bikes dont have very good topspeed, this was just a short pull the cobalt probly would have caught up and passed the ninja if they raced for longer.
yea that is possible at higher speeds because bikes have no topend, this cobalt beat a gsxr600 4 times in a row by at least 2 cars each time too, it was just because it was a low mph roll that it lost, and we had already started catching up right before the bike let off
Beat the GSXR off the line or from a roll? There is no way you could touch the bike off the line, even with his front wheel 6 feet in the air. The fact that a 500cc twin pulled away from you at 40mph is pretty amazing in and of itself (of course you would catch him top-end ... it's a 500cc inline twin - not even an inline four sportbike!).
I dunno man, i used to have a ninja 500 years ago and with the jetted carb and exhaust ran mid 11s to 12. Its reallly not that slow. of course my gsxr is alot faster now lol
dats y i wrote what i did. but i never raced a s.s.cobalt with the neon so i dont know how it does i did race srt4 left and right the whole way to 90 mph then srt4 took off slowly
lols ok enough critizing well i got a 2.0 plymouth neon sohc with performance cams valve springs after market intake and full no cat exhaust,msd wires coil and platinum plugs and i have a ninja 500R from the launch 500 got it but from a roll off of 60mph-125 the neon got it beat by a car length or 2, then i got stock 7mgte (6cyl) 1990 supra wich tops out at 150mph

you dont have a chance sir, having a 600 is not only 100cc bigger, most of them are configured much different, They are configured for high end torque but shitty low end... when racing, you dont care about the low end so our ninjas loose big time. Most 600s make over 90hp at the rear wheel, our 500s dont even come close to that even at the crank.
@Triple88a in lamen's terms, torque is for pulling heavy loads and accelerating whereas horsepower is for going fast. supercars need horsepower to get to real high speeds but a diesel truck needs a bunch of torque to pull all that weight
I just bought one, but haven't had the chance to ride it yet. My dad rode it home, took me for a ride, and my sister, then we put it away for the winter with 75.4 miles on it.
@tjmick1992 it's carbed so it will have pretty decent throttle response. i have a virago 700 which has the same horsepower as the ninja 500 and it can fucking go lol i haven't met a car on the road i can't beat off the line
