I might treat myself to one of these if I can get my hands on one, otherwise it'll have to be a Stihl MS-250 C-BE or something like that, I'm getting a Shindaiwa articulated hedge trimmer to go with my wonderful ever-growing collection but one of these bad boys would perfect.
@Aled2929 We actually have stock of both. Just remind us you want a red one and a red one you will receive. Tried to list one earlier but wouldn't upload. Need to wait on IT manager being in a good mood - teenagers!.
@bhgardeners in that case whenever I get hold of the money I'm planning to buy my new gardening equipment with, chances are that I'll buy the 269t. Most likelihood is that it'll be a couple of months until I get hold of the money, and I hope it's still in stock by then. Do BH Gardeners have a store anywhere in the UK where I could visit to take a look at the chainsaws and possibly other gardening tools before I buy?
@bhgardeners thanks for the info man, I was about to email Countax because their gardening tools section simply redirects to echo's website. I'd prefer a Shindaiwa branded product than an Echo simply because Shindaiwa have proven to me they are a serious and reliable brand. For the work I'm going to be doing I think the Shindaiwa 285s will be better suited but I'm not planning to actually purchase a new chainsaw until about October.
Does the Echo version of the 269t have the same sort of feel and performance to it? I've been told I would be disappointed by the performance of the 285s as it'd be underpowered.
As far as I can see the Echo CS2600es is made by Shindaiwa, apart from the colour they are the same. Shindaiwa and Echo now are partners of a sort.
The 285s is a SMALL saw for light work . The top handle saws probably have more OOOMPH for their size, that is how they are engineered. If you were logging or something I would pick a saw of minimum 36cc,preferably 40cc. regards brian
PS my favourite Shindaiwa saw apart from the 269T is the 452s It is just right for most jobs.
I would expect this to perform like my Shindaiwa T-18 brushcutter, that has a small engine but performance wise it's awesome. It's 20 years old, but it works like it's brand new. The only thing I find hard is getting hold of a Shindaiwa, they seem to have disappeared off the market.
Yes! 4.5 acres of scrub and small trees, plus a Shindaiwa pole saw, got the pics to prove it. My saw was so good someone else took it home and |I haven;t seen it since!!!!
That looks like a good one, but I recently entered into the market for a Ryobi (my first saw.) This is the one that I have my eye on Ryobi ZRRY10532 18" bar 40cc. My father has a Homelite UT10540 14" bar 33cc.
I do know about PPE, and some of the cuts. That's one thing I must look into.
Please, no matter what you buy do not buy a Ryobii or mc culloch. Ask your local dealer for advice, especially if it is the first chainsaw that you will have used.
We do not like Ryobii because because when we sell a machinw we do not want to hear from the customer again unless its to buy another tool. If we sold ryobii or McCulloch we would expect a very high returns rate. We sell Shindaiwa-NO returns!! Any of the saws you mentioned will be fine for general use.Just go for the best deal!!
I own a husky 55, not one of the xp series but apart from a few small changes its basicly the same saw its been since the 70's. sure its a little heavier, but that's because its made of magnesium and not plastic. I've owned poulan(crap), stihl, johnsered and echo. I saw these saws at the store i went to, but i stuck with what i knew works. i suppose to each his own, as those saws would most likelt be sufficient for pruning.
i guess it would be alright for limbing or maybe cutting down small brush. but I'd seriously reconsider and use something a little, more torquey/bigger for firewood. As my friend said "I'd duct-tape it to a stick and use it for cutting branches off my trees".
Very good, it is a light saw BUT it is definitely NOT a toy, Contractors to whom we have sold them come back for more.
if you are felling large trees then you would use a larger machine, but for many jobs this machine is absolutely brilliant and has a proven long term reliability.
One more comment...while I have no reason to doubt Shindaiwa's performance, it will take pro loggers using them in large numbers to gain the trust of most.If I were Shindaiwa I'd look to set up alot of dealers in the northwest and hand their biggest saws out for free to a set # of loggers..the only way to break the strangle hold stihl/husky have.If the saws are reliable loggers will stick with them.
That is pretty funny comparing a Mcculloch to a Shindaiwa. They arent as popular as Stihl or Husqvarna in the U.S. only because there arent many servicing dealers but from everything I've heard they are a first rate saw. And as far as the Husqvarna top handle saw goes I own a 334T and the thing is junk. My other 2 Husky saws (357xp and 385xp) are absolutely incredible saws.
Im a Shindaiwa dealer in VA and run a repair shop as well so I see alot of things daily. The small top handle saws Husky makes are just not up to par like ours. Husqvarnas larger saws are great, perform well and get the job done, but like any others with an "over-kill" line of equipment they still have bugs to work out. IMHO
proffesional saw hahahhahaha i still can't belive this shit....this video makes me smile over and over again....do you know how to fell tree i don't think so.
If you knew how to make comments in English without swearing or being rude your comments may be taken seriously by other users of this site. As it is they only reflect on your character.
You patently have no idea what you are talking about!! Firstly to compare a Mcculloch with a Shindaiwa is like comparing your brain to Einsteins!! and shows that you have no idea at all.
My own 269T was recently serviced in a first class workshop by a Qualified Stihl technician
He rated the 269T as the best balanced saw that he had come across.Secondly the Workshop Owner actually bought one off of me for personal use(trade Price of course) This is a first class pro saw.END!
Your statement is Naive! Is the Husqvarna 137 the best saw ever made?? Its made FOR husqvarna and i have had morw warranty claims on these than any other. You must be precise! All Husqvarnas are not good.Their top handle saw has a long history of problems. The Shindaiwa 490 is a MUCH better saw than the Husky350. SO when commenting -THINK!
yes the XP range which i have said elsewhere are Worldclass chainsaws, but that is specific and no arguments, but outside of the XP saws your assertion that husqvarna is the best does not hold true-and i could not sell any local tree surgeons a Husqvarna top handle saw
Id like to see your precious stihl or husqvarna run all day long, 7 days a week against Shindaiwa and see who breaks down first! "First to Start, Last to Quit" - in writing on every logo and a 7 Day money back gaurentee? I dont see your Stihl or Husky dealers offering such a promise... :)
oh i thought it was some cheap brand i like how this one looks so light... im sorry i jjust thought it was like homelite i still cant get over how light u make it look.
We are commercial contractors We use machines from all of the major brands. We have used Shindaiwa products for 6 years, Some of the machines are 3 years old. They start first time every time.Shindaiwa reliability has been phenominal! WE HAVE A CHOICE on what we use. I sell Stihl,Husqvarna etc. WE CHOOSE SHINDAIWA because it has been ultra reliable .If you have found otherwise TRY SERVICING & PROPERLY MAINTAINING your equipment it does help!!.Regards Brian

I jumped on the Ryobi for the reason that I have other equipment from them that has done fairly well in the past (gas/electric line trimmers.)
The most experience that I've had with a chainsaw is when I use my dad's Homelite UT10540. It handle cuts well enough.
As far as other saws, what would you personally suggest? Stihl, Echo, etc.

If I was going to buy a top handled saw it would be the Echo 360T.

the larger Echo top handles that we have are made in Japan by the same people who make the 269T or it's alter ego the echo CS2600es
