  • I had several postings on the Melbourne 1966 to 1966 / 1968 to 1970

1974 to 1978 and finial 1980 to 1982 so I've many fond memories of

Shipmates and experiences but very little photographic memories,so

I find that this is fantastic site to go down memory lane

  • my dad was a stoker on the melbourne i was one of the last civilian to walk on her i was 9 years old i remmeber that like it was yesterday i loved her australia needs another one just like her maybe a bit bigger lol

  • For crying out loud...she wasn't going to last forever... built duringWW2,laid up ,completed in 1955...She had her21st birthday in 1976 when I was on her...she was A beautiful carrier...but not immortal

  • The worst pice of shit carrier ever. I wonder why they didnt scrap it earlyer? I bet in a third world war it wouldent have made any difference as the soviet navy would have fierd one torpedo and sunk her. But still a butifull carrier and a good video.

  • carriers are sitting ducks in a real war, convert them all into razor blades!

  • @Jesteria78 you have no idea

  • @Jesteria78 carriers did away with the battleships yamato and the ijn fleet

carriers helped clean up middle east

a carrier group launched the bin laden raid.

  • I paid her off in June 82. Sad to see the old girl go. Many unhappy times in the fwd hole and aux hole, and on shafts and draughts. Many happy times in the mess, and up the road. And up on the goofers platform watching the birdies and the planes doing their thing, marvellous. We still need a carrier, more importantly we need 2 at least. Glad to be a part of Australia's defence history. Thanks for putting together the vid. Much appreciated.

  • not only magestic but also invincible i say.

  • bob hawk should be hung for treason

  • Are you going to put together a dvd for sale. I bet you will sell heaps. I served on the old girl in the 70s.

  • Nah..put it on YouTube for free so everyone can enjoy the footage.

  • @Eddieg56 My Dad was Chief Petty Officer Black Smith RIP DAD .

  • greetings from Canada, very good video Canada had a simaler carrier i belive the same class

in Canadian service known as HMCS Boneventure or the Bonnie as it was called

  • HMAS Melbourne received parts of the Bonaventure catapult after Bonaventure scrapped.

  • As a former Birdie who served on the Melbourne during 1981-82, whilst on VS 816 squadron, it was a trip down memory lane to see this footage. Many Thanks

  • What is the reason for your question please?

  • where did you get this video from?

  • We should NEVER have got rid of the Melbourne. We still need aircraft carriers.

    RIP HMAS MELBOURNE

  • ill have enough money one day and ill get them to build me an exact replica.
