  • Mastodon needs to make Moby Dick, the movie. Featuring every song on this album and some new ones.

  • I can just imagine when I hear this song Capt. Ahab on a boat holding a spear battling the mighty Moby Dick. The imagery that this song evokes is incredible.

  • Remember kids, the more albums you own from one band, the bigger your e-penis!

  • @ItisThatGuy I own every Motorhead album!!!!

  • Why are all these kids flipping? Anyway Mastodon is just amazing end of story.

  • Ahab i am

  • One of my favorite songs from Mastodon, I own a copy of every single song they made XD, you could say I'm a Mastodon Addict but i just like to call it being a good fan!

  • @pacdaman15557 wow u are really hardcore fan, having 4records from one band....get a life oO

    btw. great song

  • Georgia's a cool state. Great colleges (in particular Tech and Emory but UGA is great too), great sports teams, great food and evidently some great bands (Mastodon and REM - yeah, haters gonna hate).

  • I don't remember being so retarded when I was 12... How about anyone else?

  • @CptK96

    agreed

  • now to mark this off my things to do list

  • Now that we gave you 100k views you must now post the mastodon hand of stone and crystallized skull

  • @kazoorocketman54 ME TOO! what part of Georgia ya from bud??? putnam county here

  • @beserker1912 Awesome! :P I'm from Fannin. Super North Georgia..nearly on the Tennessee Line.

  • @kazoorocketman54 WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY up there man. At least we can have pride in our state because of Mastodon

  • @beserker1912 Exactly, people in the north hate on me because of where I am from. I just remind them of Mastodon.

  • @kazoorocketman54 proud to say that brent went to my high school

  • So I herd that their new album's gonna be reminiscent to this one....that shit's gonna be craaazyy.

  • รุ่นใหญ่ๆๆๆๆ

  • Geez so many 12 year olds freaking out.....just listen to the song and shut up....no one really cares what you think

  • @squeezeslemons They have to express themselves to evacuate the frustration. And being tough on internet is easier than in real life

  • @squeezeslemons fucking agree just shut up if u love this shit

  • hey guyz i gots a great ideah lets arugeh aboutz what sub-genera this band iz!!!1!!.

/\ this is what you retards look like.

  • Definetly some good guitar but fuck the song i think

  • some retards say they're metalcore...they're absolutely not...FUck no, can't be will not ever be metalcore...not sellouts either, the talent and the creativity each one of these guys have is beyond godlike! thumbs down if you agree!

  • @assasinator1980 i just got into mastodon and its because they are one of the new bands that arent nu metal or metalcore. this is real metal.

  • @sodombestthrash No shit...

  • @assasinator1980 progressive metal

  • @assasinator1980 why do you give a crap about what other's think? If this was classified as country, i would still listen to it.

  • @CHAALIEL exactly....but it hurts to see people labeling Mastodon as something that they're not

  • I honestly enjoy all of their music so far, the new and old. Even though it is a lot different, especially with the vocals, it's not bad at all. Some metal bands try to progress like this and fail, where Mastodon is fucking awesome and can scream and yell just as well as sing.

  • Love this song

  • they said themselves in an interview if they were a genre it would be something called whalecore or elephant rock

  • WHALECORE

  • @jhfh3112 Core? You are fucking retarded. Mastodon is nowhere near the -core genre poser fad

  • @DOCSFC Fucking retarded? Mate, lighten up. I just thought it was a funny word. We both love Mastodon, let's leave it at that and not take Youtube comments so frigging seriously.

  • @Ploj102

but all of the greatest artist like pink floyd, led zeppelin, nirvana and mastodon in this case

they were and are all progressive musiscians and thats why we think theyre so good, cause we all want to hear something new not just the same stuff over and over again

    except for great bands

the thing new muscians have to do is start being more progressive. and then people will discover them

  • @karlinngustafinn well what I'm trying to say is that there's nothing wrong with either approach. My 2 favorite bands are AC/DC and Mastodon (in that order). What can I say, sometimes you just need to be able to count on a band to continue making a particular style of music so others still have places to go.

Also, I do get pissed off when bands change for more money, but then u gotta start drawing lines and questioning motives... Somehow KISS stayed the same AND sold out... go figure

  • @Ploj102 well progressitivity gets you somewere

  • Mastodon, The Sword and Wolfmother are the best metal / hard rock bands going at the moment.

  • Whalecore is win.

  • drumgasm

  • i haven't listened to metal in years and heard good things about this album awhile back. its very good. all i have heard from this album is impressive.

  • This may be my favorite Mastodon song

  • Omg Best Riff from 1:06-1:34

  • it's funny how I saw them twice before I actually started liking them...once with metallica in 07 and with slayer in 08...I'd love to see them again now paha

  • I... like this. Why do I like this? I hate metal.

  • @CuriousMoth

Because its more than metal, its music.

There is a differents between 60's - 90's metal and a lot of today's crap metal. The older metal mixes more melodic twists and classical influences are present. Today, its more (not all) along the lines of: ;aldhf;oadnf;oadnf;oadnf;oad;oadgoahgalngangalnlaghahahhahdladlnad (crappy guitar solo) la;dhfladf;lahdf;lahdga;goha;fga;dgna;dgna;fdghna;dfgna;fg

  • @thehomelessman Man, that shit is whack.

Anyway, I'd say this seems more progressive than other metal. I've always liked a bit of prog rock, King Crimson, Hawkwind, all that. This is definitely heavier but not worse off for it.

  • @thehomelessman more like (crappy breakdown)

  • @thehomelessman Crap metal? Are you kidding me? Have you ever listened to The Sword, Dimmu Borgir, Airbourne, The Answer, Mastodon (!) or how about some of the bigger bands like Disturbed or Slipknot. Metal hasn't been this strong in decades, you've just got to start looking.

  • @SonicThunderBYG I said alot, not all.. And i was meaning more along the lines of mainstream

  • @thehomelessman Meh, there are plenty of great modern metal bands, you just need to know where to look and avoid most of the trends, just like it has always been.

It gets very old hearing each generation claim the next one has only got shit bands in it, it has happened again and again throughout history and will continue to happen for many generations to come, what makes you think this one will be any different?

If anything I also think at least instrumentally metal is becoming more and

  • Comment removed

  • @thehomelessman more classically influenced and plenty melodic. The biggest difference over the past few decades with regards to metal is the importance of the instruments over the vocals, nowadays most of the time the guitars and drums are the main focus with the vocals being pushed way back, riffing has become more intricate and (in my opinion) more interesting in many cases and hey at least we are over that nu metal phase that riddled the 90's.not that the current metalcore one is much better.

  • Comment removed

  • @loonypalooza ...When did I mention any of those bands in any of my comments?

  • @MetalguitarlessonsUK Sorry dude, I meant to reply to someone else's comment, that happened to be a reply to you. I realized I made a fuck up after hitting the post button, thought I got rid of it, guess not.

  • @loonypalooza Ok, s'all good.

  • @CuriousMoth I thumbed up for you liking this, not for you hating metal.

  • @FuriousPoster Foop the whales!

  • @Furious Poster That's a fucking awesome comment!

  • boo

  • Anybody not like Mastodon probably distaste terrible belching-sings from singer grunt him way thru song. Also not like drummer too busy with skins too tight like trashcans clamped not breathing.

  • @PoofDuddy

The way your comment is worded makes you sound like a caveman trying to critic an album. "Me no like drum bang or mouth scream", was how your comment sounded in a nutshell.

Anyways, nobody cares about your opinion, so take it somewhere else to show it off.

  • @BigTymerPimp

    Lol that cracked me up.

  • Call me Ishmael...

  • this is all what i need, thanks for the vid's (:

  • one of the best songs ever by MASTODONNN!!!!

  • @lovepuremetal5 crack the skye....literally put me in a coma listening to that, leviathan did the same...but i havn't quite got out of my current coma...

  • I like Mastodon, but a lot of you fan boys are douches. It doesn't really matter if someone likes different band than you, or doesn't like this one, that is why we have choices in life. Since you guys are comparing apples to oranges, Clutch owns Mastodon all day.

  • @InternetWarriorQwer On that note, apples taste much better than oranges.

  • @ltmajorcrunch For sure, no wants to peel and do all that prep work to gets some GD fruit!

  • @InternetWarriorQwer Hahahaha well Mastodon fans are douches... I'm kinda one.... But I'm not a douche... I'm just saying that they're the greatest band on earth and i buy all their merch (limited editions, vinyls, DVDs, posters, etc....) but I mean i do disagree on some bands like Slayer, Slipknot, Jonas Brothers, and some other shit bands.... But I mean let them live right?

  • i may not be ahab, but i am a space narwhal hunter!

    *grumbles*god damn space narwhals

  • I Am Not Ahab

  • If Mastodon doesn't tour Australia next year then thousands of whales will beach themselves across the globe.

  • @FuriousPoster THIS COMMENT IS THE BEST THING IVE EVER READ.

  • @FuriousPoster

i believe that is what this album was trying to accomplish.

    WHITE WHALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this makes me wanna put in some Moby-Dick quotes.

So man's insanity is heaven's sense; and wandering from all mortal reason, man comes at last to that celestial thought, which, to reason, is absurd and frantic; and weal or woe, feels then uncompromised, indifferent as his God.

  • From my perspective, it seems that when a band starts out heavy and then starts experimenting with new music once they no longer have to hold the attention of a crowd of 40 peple, then it is called selling out. when a band stays the essentially the same (slayer, AC/DC) then people accuse them of making the same album over and over again.... just an observation

  • @Ploj102 seems about right

  • @Ploj102

crack the skye is a concept album though they were experimenting with it, it turned out amazing, now i clearly remember Brent saying he wont give up with the old stye of playing...

  • @Ploj102 true true....i mean what ever happened to artistic freedom so few have done such a myriad of diferent material and still maintained their coolness

  • @Ploj102 I think that good music is good, regardless of their other stuff.

  • @Ploj102 Excellent observation. I 100% agree with you. I personally think that Mastodon's new album, while very different, is absolutely exquisite.

  • @Ploj102 selling out is when a band changes their sound for more money and popularity. if a band truly wants to move in a softer direction, thats fine with me. its their band. however, i despise bands that change their music for money.

  • @thychaos As I said to this other guy, its usually not cut and dry why a band is changing their sound. For example Metallica maintains that they changed in the 90's for purely artistic reasons, despite the fact that they started doing it right when alternative became popular...

  • @Ploj102 thats exactly what i said. i dont care what they want to do with their music, but i have no respect for anyone that changes their creative output for cash.

  • @Ploj102 Okay. What does this have to do with Mastodon? They are far from selling out. This isn't pop music. This is some fucking quality metal! \m/

  • @Ploj102 People just like to complain about other musicians and bands... They have nothing to do but talk down and judge bands when they artistically want to grow...

  • @Ploj102 No, its when a band completely and totally changes who they are to follow whatever genre is most popular - that's selling out. There are plenty of bands that sound different from album to album but still retain certain aspects and elements of who they are as a band.

  • @Ploj102

Yey, a smart person on YT. A rarity, if you'll excuse me. Cheers bro.

  • @Ploj102 haters gonna hate

  • @Ploj102 Oyu'll always fine dumbshits like that. But you are 100% correct.Couldn' have said it better. To be honest,Mastodon has never released a bad album or even a bad song.

  • whale metal.

  • 1:55

  • 1:55 - 2:16 = ear sex

  • @oldrippy86 Eargasm

  • my god how can anyone hate this band? this is amazing shit

  • @KnightsOfTheDamned Ever heard Blade Catcher? From a fan of this band's perspective, that song is their worst. THAT'S how.

  • @intactus

ye its an okay song but it really trippy

  • siiiiiic.

  • i have no idea how this could be categorized as mainstream. some people say that these guys sold out over the years, but since when has becoming more progressive EVER meant selling out O_o?

  • @Ploj102 some people think selling out means when a band begins with one style and at the end the change their style. Well some people are stupid lol

  • this song is not long engouth for my a liking, still bad ass and sex god like

  • This is ....so badass.

  • Doesn't this song really make you feel like your on a ship out at sea, during an insane storm? It does for me, it puts me right in the concepts of the album

  • WOW i was reading moby dick few minutes ago!! Coincidence

  • I just Jizzed Every Where

  • this is one of their sludgiest songs :3

  • Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee. Sink all coffins and all hearses to one common pool! and since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale! Thus, I give up the spear!

  • @mgerst1 whats the point? retards that like it will still listen to it... plus that kind of music is made for kids and retarded people, you have to be patient with them..

  • I agree that 666metalsucks666 needs to stfu. So lets eveyone not comment on his stupidity!!! He is obviously not aware of his ignorance! And apparently will suck your dick if you suck his!

  • 666Metalsucks666 you are a troll, GTFO and bow down to the gods that are mastodon. how can you say this isn't heavy? This is some of the heaviest shit out there. So, from looking at you name and your comments and your dislike for a band that actually isn't that mainstream but kicks ass across the universe, i say ur nothing but a sad little troll who has no dick.

    BABY PENIS BABY PENIS!

If this isn't real metal, then Justin Bieber is a great artist.

  • if too many people like a band, people think the band sucks. If NO ONE knows about them, or no one listens to them, people have the tendency to be rebellious and call it REAL MUSIC. Music is music, it doesn't matter if it's what you call "mainstream". We like it. Listen to what you love.

  • @muffinsNsausage

you're right, but it has no relevance to mastodon.

  • @DuskFiend i said that because there were a bunch of people saying that mastodon is becoming too mainstream, and i felt obligated to give my opinion lol

  • @muffinsNsausage thankyou some1 that finally says something that makes since also i love these guys i love all thier albums all of them are different call of the mastodon and levithan- brutal heavy metal (not all of it) blood moutian- progy metal and crack the skye- straight up prog metal and jusst some regular prog

  • @muffinsNsausage

Sounds like the type'a talk that a music fan would use!

    Dig it!

  • @muffinsNsausage That's a retarded rule. I'm sorry, but even if Justin Beiber was "underground" or whatever the fuck you want to call it ..his music would still reek horribly.

It's not a case of angsty teens being pissed off at the evil establishment. Some music sucks, end of story. Get over it.

  • @JayWhipp1e theres REAL MUSIC an then theres FAKE MUSIC... its OBVIOUS which is which weather or not the band/singer is famous or underground or inbetween. justin beiber is NOT real music because he was put there to make money and thats it. some one like... destinys child, regardless of if i like it or not is real music because they didnt just do it for money, and they did have talent unlike shit stain beiber.

  • @muffinsNsausage Your right, but mainstream music is only meant to be pleasing, while ''real music'' is more like art ; it's good because of what is it, not because it catchy. According to me at least.

  • @ViktorAsberg All music is written to be pleasing, however, mainstream is written for a certain stereotypical majority in which the producer knows will buy albums....

  • @muffinsNsausage This couldn't be more true!

  • @muffinsNsausage that was gangsta and to the point. its great to have intelligent people on youtube leaving comments

  • @muffinsNsausage amen to that
