could some one help me out. im building my own shower. I can't find mix mud or dry mix in home depot or lowes hardware store. is there a website i could order this product?
don't worry about home depot go to your landscaping supplier buy some coarse sand and a bag of portland cement mix one bucket cement to 4 buckets coarse sand, dry, thoughrly mix, to this once mixed add a mixture of 1/3 PVA glue 2/3 water till the consisitency of damp sand on the beach, if it holds when you squeeze it in your tightened fist it's ready, if you need more help I'll talk you through it, if you are really keen I'll talk you through making your own clamp drain
the mud bed mix is usually in flooring, at my store it is mapei 4 to 1 mud bed mix, item number 168539. just ask someone at lowes and they should be able to find you that item.
I can't believe he used plumber's putty. that is the only thing preventing water from escaping, how long do you think it will hold up? You should use a quality silicone caulking. All it will take is the drain to clog, then water pressure will build up around the putty, and eventually the water will seep under the liner and onto the floor...even during a typical shower.
The outside edge of pan must be level, then sloped to the drain. This video shows the outside edge sloping downward , very sloppy. And it will likely make for a shower pan with puddles. Much easier to make some drypack and just shape it by eye....

mostly a good video, but the putty is really a defect. it's supposed to be a silcone rtv sealant, not just silicone.
