This is such a sacred song and it is a sad thing to see it being sung in this manner...
the video is so horrible to look at.
I am not saying she is a bad singer.. but always create your own than messing up with spiritual songs. It really offends so many people when in the name of creativity and fusion old songs or tunes are used like this.
@f2k032 Yes. You are right. I never saw a presentation that converted Bhakti Rasa into Bhebhatsa Rasa so efficiently.....so sad....but I should say...she got a well trained voice..
after reading the translation, and based on my religious beliefs I may not listen to this particular song again, but having said that, I love her voice...it's so warm, velvety...SOULFUL...she is indeed a brilliant artist.
lovely rendition! i love the flow....i ve always liked "Maha Ganapathim" anyway.... but this one is a different yet fantastic take... add me to fans' list Susheela Raman! kudos, keep it up
darvdindnew, I don't understand how this disrespects god. I think Ganesha would have liked that rendition, or atleast appreciated the effort., I mean this is Ganesha we're talking about. He's one of the chillest gods around.
Thank you, Momoshiri for giving the lyrics and translation. I am a non-Hindu devotee of Ganesha and this song and Susheela's voice brings His presence. Blessings of prosperity and abundance to everyone!
It depends or where you are from... In Latinamerica we are all mixed with almost all cultures... Then we are always agree with mixing. Her music make me feel latin somehow... I like it!
i dont think the intention is to be 'classical' or not classical, indian or african or whatever. its just music, you either like it or you don't. if you prefer the traditional approach its there so stick to it.
film composers have been rechannleing classical stuff for a long time, so whats the problem? I look forward to others being so adventurous. isn't that marque gilmore playing drums by the way...invisible here.
I agree with you momoshri- its music, like food, either one likes it or don't. No need to get into about ethnicities or cultural superiority/inferiority debate. In this borderless worl, more music such as this will be coming out- its a natural progression. Chill out and appreciate the vibes. Thank you to the person for uploading this video. Bless!
2001. Lo-budget promo video made prior to release of Salt Rain. Apart from Susheela, Vincent Segal on Cello, Hilaire Penda on Bass, Aref Durvesh on tabla and Sam Mills on guitar. Great Cello solo at the end.

I meditate on Ganapati
Worshipped by the great sages
Vasishta and Vamadeva
Son of Shiva, adored by his brother Guruguha
Shining with the brilliance of ten million Love Gods
He is tranquil, relishing the work of poets and dramatists
Eating coconut sweets and riding his Mouse

if you want to hear a good song search for Maha Ganapatim - Sindhu Bhairavi - Sivakumar
this was sung by KJ Yesudas music set by Ilayaraja for the movie Sindhu Bairavi!!

@madhurangarajan
I heard that other version, and I have to say in the context of what's timeless, and beautiful, inispired, and evolving:
You seem completely ignorant.
Susheela's version is so good!

this is a very traditional, carnatic hindu song on one of the most worshipped gods in India, Lord Ganesha.
But i find the spirit of the song ruined. No offence meant to Susheela's fans, but, she has to show some respect when singing such a song.

Creating beauty is one of the best ways to make the Gods happy ...and she creates beautiful sounds herself...it`s an honnor.
