I look at this and see a beautiful parade and military spectacle which has been happening for centuries, celebrating this country and its head of state. others look at it and see something whcih they will never have themselves, and must therefore be removed. If the second statement is not the case, may i ask exactly what makes you pray for a republic when you see this?

Traditionally, such positions are held by members of the Royal Family, as no serving soldier is ever accorded such a rank. Princess Anne is Colonel-in-Chief of a couple of regiments, to give but one example, and she has never served in HM Armed Services.

A stunning spectacle - there is nothing to remotely compare to it. The Queen and Duke are wonderful and still look terrific, especially smiling on the balcony. Everyone performed magnificently, including the horses, and the commentary was just right - informative but not intrusive. Most of the troopers looked so young.
