Surely REMs album 'Around the Sun' is testimont to that. They were around for a bit before they released that and it was a bit of a flop. All I said was that when they play live they dont get the crowd going as well as other bands do.

Actualy the sound at Live 8 London was about as good as I've ever heard at an outdoor gig, with the only major noticable screw-up being a microphone failure during UB40 (minor sound defects are a fact of life at almost all gigs).

The quality of the main sound system wouldn't actualy make any differance to Mike as he and the band would be listening to their own seperate mix(es) through the stage monitor speakers and or earpieces.

REM haven't been "amazing" for some time. For "amazing", check out the performance by Pink Floyd. Life-altering - and they haven't been in their prime in years. David Gilmour is twice the performer M. Stipe is and he's quite his senior. Check out David Gilmour's solo AOL sessions, then you'll understand why Pink Floyd was the highlight of this event. I don't see anyone in the audience bursting into tears over REM...
