I got the sound close by changing the powertubes to the very top one in the list to a 100 w6l6 also enabling the cab in amplitube and using metal v1 or 2 . I used specifically the guitarhackkjjedge-1 impulse afterwards and pan this channel 30 to the left. Make a new channel, open guitar rig 4 or amplitube again and choose what ever metal tone you want pan it 30 to the right and dont use impulses on this track. The sound will cut through combining into monster tone.
If you think that just recording your song without mixing will make it sound even close to this track, then, you have got years of learning infront of you. If you want to sound pro or come even remotely close to professional CD-quality-sounding songs you HAVE to learn to mix. At the least, you need to know the chain of fx needed to bring volume levels up to usable levels. Otherwise you end up with plain sounding tracks that have no life to them.
@Seraphim777961 Someone puts a sweeping sine wave through a cabinet and records it with a mic, then processes it with a deconvolver or something. Then, when loaded as an impulse and placed an audio track, it will recreate what happened to the sine wave across the frequency spectrum... Which will, in effect, be the same as if it were sent through that exact cabinet and mic configuration.
fearcomplex if you make a video like this with a killer tone and show us step by step how you got that tone, we'll pay for it bro. We'll be very very happy to pay for it. Only release the video (say 2 hours long or whatever you think) when you have 100 payments of maybe $20 each. That way you get paid for your work and we are all very very happy. PLEASE PLEASE do this ( or even think about it). Thanks bro.

@fearcomplexmusic can we subscribe to some mailing list to get a heads up when this happens? might be a good idea to set one up if you haven't yet. Thanks for the infos sir.
@1234abcfgsbsb I'm going to be as diplomatic as I can here. What do you mean by 'fake'. The playing? Are you saying he does more than he describes? It's a youtube showing how you get highly produced and polished modern metal sounds for a record. Processing is the point . Processing doesn't disguise performance. I'm not trying to be rude. I just want you to clarify what you mean when you say fake because I've found the videos quite helpful, although they aren't my only source of information.
This has been probably asked before but I couldn't find it. Did you plug your guitar directly into your audio interface or did you use any pedals/preamps in the signal chain before connecting into the interface?
In a mix can you try and explain to me the different things you would do to the guitars to make them sound full less trebly etc. This sounds great and Id love to know what kind of eq plugins etc you use and how you use them. I have amplitube with a ton of impulses and can already see a huge improvement but its not where it should be. Thanks!
@sandelirious1 You need to use a good hardware to reduce noise. You are not gonna get a sound this good using the line in, you need a good soundcard with guitar interface.
I downloaded your preset and tried everything... I think this video has A LOT of post processing effects... why would you hide that fact? Why would you like to make us waste our time like this? Just saying... I hope I'm wrong.
@shouldnotseeme I never said there was no post processing so I'm not "hiding" anything. This is a clip of Amplitube in my mix with my guitar, using my pickups, with my bass and my drums, all processed to my own personal taste. I honestly don't see how it comes as a surprise that it sounds different to your mix. The purpose of this clip is to show Amplitube in a mix, if someone likes it, they know the software has the potential to sound good, how it ends up sounding in their mix is up to them.
@shouldnotseeme@shouldnotseeme It depends on your mixing skills, nothing wrong with the presets, this sounds good because of the arrangement of the song, drums and bass, everything just sounds right :)

@fearcomplexmusic I just got a free version of amplitube 3. It does not come loaded with the amp. I downloaded the file you provide from dropbox but I don't know how to load it. Help!
Hey man just curious.. How do you set this up with Amplitube? I'm not very familiar with the program too well and I love Mesa tones.. So i really want to utilize this
@FacingItAlone Hey you run amplitube as an effect inside your recording software, the same as if you were applying a reverb or a compressor. I get messages weekly about this so I must put up a video.
@fearcomplexmusic mate can you clarify how you then use the impulse? do you drop another plugin into say protools? or do you use the impulse in your amp sim?
Hey fearcomplexmusic, how much would you say an interface determines sound quality? I'm using an mbox and amplitube, I'm not satisfied with the sound I currently have. What kind of interface are you using?
@kennethsantanaguitar Hey I'm using an m-audio profire 2626. I used a toneport previously. I didn't hear a huge improvement when I got the profire, I think it shines more when using mics. To be honest, if I didn't want the 8 inputs, I'd have stuck with the toneport. What strings are u using? I was trying to record a guitar with 9's earlier, got nothing but a lifeless, weak tone. You end up adding more more gain to compensate but it's just not the same. Big thick strings are a must!
@fearcomplexmusic I'm using 10 gauge d'addario strings. I like them, I might use 11s to record just for that added chunkiness but I'm more of a light string kinda guy. I'm using the m-audio fast track that comes with avid protools SE. I don't make any sessions in SE though, I'm more comfortable using Reaper because of the plugins and the user interface just seems to have more variety. I'm gonna continue to tweak the settings.
@fearcomplexmusic How do you use the Guitar Hack Impulses in the DAW? Revalver has a load option for impulses but I don't know where I'd start with amplitube. Do I put them in the cabinets folder in amplitube or...idk
@kennethsantanaguitar Check out my how to use impulses video on my channel. There's a link to an impulse loader called kefir. You add the loader as an effect after amplitube, bypass the cab in amplitube and load the impulse.
hey thanks for the tips dude my tone actually sounds half decent, previously i scrapped amplitube because it sounded so bad but after seeing you videos i gave amplitube another shot and now it sounds pretty cool. life saver i will take you advice with working the bass and drums to get a more rounded sound. sometimes information just needs to be simplified to get the bigger picture. nice work
fearcomplexmusic can i ask you what guitar and pickups you use. Everything sounds incredible (i know its your use of drums and bass and mixing too) but id love to know about your guitar. Thanks man.
hey man ... do you use 2 tracks or 4 tracks of guitar ? Pan 100% left and right ? thank you !! because i'm doing the 100% with de pré delay 5ms... or 10ms..on each guitar track....
which impulse are you using in guitarhack? I feel like im the only one who posts comments on here who understands what theyre doing lol. Thanks for your help!!!
For everyone who's having trouble with this patch, its because he saved it and uploaded it with the cabinet bypassed. That's why when you open it up in amplitube, it sounds horrid and scratchy. Simply go up in the right hand corner, click "Bypass" and enjoy the patch.
hey man amazing song i loved it, and im mixing for my band uve helped me alot, i just wanted to know whats the EQ for ur kickdrum and bass, in the songs ive mixed theres alot of bass and im trying to cut it down but when i do something sounds outta place, pls help. thank you
Impressive man, you showed all this naps that guitar simulations are not that bad as everybody believes. I've been on the forum of the guy who recorded machine heads album, and he posted a sample of the guitars recorded without any eq, effects etc. Horrible.
U R right, the whole track makes the sound ^^ This simulators are acutally pretty good!
@Blade00Warrior you have to put the file in the presets folder, then you can look for it in amplitube in the presets section and load it from there. it is not a project file
Wow......this is amazing. I'm trying to decide if I should get pod farm 2 platinum or amplitube 3. Which one is better in you opinion? Do you think pod farm2 would be capable of producing this tone?
hey dude killer patch but im having trouble downloading it :( it just comes up with a load of numbers and letters that i cant copy or download or anything for that matter :( sorry for being a pain but some help would be awesome \m/
People... the key here is being good at mixing. This guy did an awesome job with the mix. Like he said, the guitars on their own dont sound that impressive. It's when you add bass and drums and know how to use eq. BTW I'm not saying I'm good at mixing or at getting tone like this so dont barrage me with crappy comments. :D
Hey man, I have tried everything to get this tone, but just cannot, I use your patches and the impulses, but just can't get that sound.. :( been trying non stop for over 3 weeks now....thinking of giving it all up for good. Could you maybe upload your EQ settings or compression or anything you did on top of the amplitube and impulses? That would really be a great help, on my last straw now!! My interface I'm using in a Boss GT-10 through USB at 24bit...straight clean sound. Please help :)
@jacquesokes First of all don't give up! Believe me I know how frustrating it can be. My advice is look at the rest of your mix, how's your bass? This cannot be overlooked. Good sounding drums are also very important. The guitars on their own aren't that impressive but there's no point in having huge guitar tracks with tonnes of low end that ends up battling the bass and kick drum in the mix. Again, work on the bass, if I mute the bass the whole track falls apart.

@fearcomplexmusic Thank you so much!!! that's really a big help!! I've been thinking the whole time that's all just guitar that's so big and been struggling to get that big sound, I must say I do feel motivated again to give it another go! If i get something going and upload it would give it a listen and maybe give me a tip or 2 on that? Again, thanks so much for the reply!!
Please Help ME!! why doesn't this sound as good when i go and do it?! i use a tascam us-1641 interface that i use direct input. then that goes to my computer on Cubase 5. i saved this patch. opened it in amplitube 3. i used the same jj fred 45 0 impulses guitarhack. and i split the channels left and right. what am i missing? when i do it. it lacks the "huge wall of sound" part.
@fearcomplexmusic thats EXACTLY what happened to me, perhaps I should put more time into tracking then. When you use the tape saturator and EQ, do you tend to do it to each track or do you bounce the guitars to one track and put those effects on after?
Can some one post a link to the impulses I can't seem to download them. Anyways what external eq did you use and did you use compression. Could you please take a screenshot of your settings. Keep up the great work
Dude... first of all my compliments for your efforts concerning metal mixing tips. When i try to reproduce one of your settings it simply doesn't sound the same... and yess i do record 4 separate tracks and use the guitarhackimpulses -1 and 0 and set them to 100-100 and 80-80. Could you do me a favor and mail me one of your unprocessed clean guitartracks. So I can compare it to my own. Maybe then i can see what's going wrong here. many thanks in advance.. my mail is b59110@live.nl
@fearcomplexmusic I don't wanna be a pain but i'm really looking forward to this unprocessed guitartrack you promised to send. That reminds me; Do you proces your tracks in anyway before feeding them to your plugins?
@fearcomplexmusic Hate to dissapoint you but where did you send them to. My email adres (b59110@live.nl) or to my youtube inbox. Both of them inboxes are empty as well as my junkmail folders. Could you please send the again... Please. thanx
@fearcomplexmusic okay. Many thanx from Holland Dude, you really helped me out. Just ripped out my passsive pickups and installled my good old EMG-81. That solved about 90% of my problems. I have only one more things. I got the clean signal almost the same eq-wise that is. But the only thing that is really diffferent are the palmmutes. Yours are very clean and clear in the low end. So are mine but a i get this really harsch mettalic high sound allong with it. Any ideas how to get rid of this??
@b59110 Good to hear! Try picking as close to the bridge as possible. The closer you pick to the neck the more you choke your tone and lose low end. It can take a while to get out of this habit, I know for a while I had to watch my picking hand to make sure it didn't drift towards the neck. See if this helps.

great sound, especially considering it is a freebie..i still havn't had time to try impulses on my mac mini, will definitely have to look into trying them out...
Once again marvelous job with the mixing. I don't understand why you're not producing for some mainstream metal bands. You need to get your work out there! Producers would be fools to turn you down!
How long have you been doing this for? Sounds sooooooooo professional.
@Scorge120 Thanks! have a lot to learn yet but I'm finding you can make progress reasonably quick if you're really in to it. It's definitely not the science the people with the so called 'magic ears' claim it to be anyway. I was in a nice studio years back and the guy behind the desk just couldn't do metal so I went and got a 4 track recorder. I realized after that experience that the best gear isn't essential and what really is important is to simply know how you want it to sound in your head!
@phycho91 Hey put the patch in your amplitube preset folder, most likely C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\AmpliTube 3\Presets and it should show up then. I checked out your track and it sounds good, has a great 'live' feel to it!
@fearcomplexmusic Thanks man, technically the vocals are live I guess :P I think your impulse helped alot with that too, made it sound alot more natural than the other impulses I have. How do I save the patch tho? When I click on it, a download bar doesn't appear it just opens as a new window in Windows Internet Explorer with alot of text... Do I copy and paste this text into something?
@phycho91 Try right clicking on it and choose "save link as". It should then allow you to save it. If it doesn't let me know and I'll upload it somewhere else or something.
@fearcomplexmusic Yes it worked! Thank you! I can only save as xml though, is this right? Presets I've used for Amplitube before have been ".at3" format.
@fearcomplexmusic Yes I can open .rar archives! :) I checked the other amplitube patch, the 5150 tone and this is the same... I right click, then click save target as, and the only option is to save it as xml or all files.
awesome riff dude

Seraphim777961 5 months ago
@Seraphim777961 Pretty much just a Sine Wave through an Cabinet.
pooluke41 4 months ago
@Seraphim777961 Someone puts a sweeping sine wave through a cabinet and records it with a mic, then processes it with a deconvolver or something. Then, when loaded as an impulse and placed an audio track, it will recreate what happened to the sine wave across the frequency spectrum... Which will, in effect, be the same as if it were sent through that exact cabinet and mic configuration.

laurayalejandro 5 months ago
Post processing is the key...after getting a good base tone of course ;)
When you get your thick guitar sound, you still need to compress, tape,EQ,whatever the resulting signal.
It is already hard to get a good base tone (pedal, amp, cab sim and more).
That's the reason why most ppl complain about virtual guitar chains : they don't know HOW to use them, and even less how to MIX.
Because no solution will mix for you, nether set your rig (virtual or not) for you.

@kennethsantanaguitar Check out my how to use impulses video on my channel. There's a link to an impulse loader called kefir. You add the loader as an effect after amplitube, bypass the cab in amplitube and load the impulse.
fearcomplexmusic 11 months ago
hey thanks for the tips dude my tone actually sounds half decent, previously i scrapped amplitube because it sounded so bad but after seeing you videos i gave amplitube another shot and now it sounds pretty cool. life saver i will take you advice with working the bass and drums to get a more rounded sound. sometimes information just needs to be simplified to get the bigger picture. nice work

@RRTRICK I don't remember how many I used on this but I mostly just dual track now, 100% l&r with more gain to compensate.

For everyone who's having trouble with this patch, its because he saved it and uploaded it with the cabinet bypassed. That's why when you open it up in amplitube, it sounds horrid and scratchy. Simply go up in the right hand corner, click "Bypass" and enjoy the patch.

hey man amazing song i loved it, and im mixing for my band uve helped me alot, i just wanted to know whats the EQ for ur kickdrum and bass, in the songs ive mixed theres alot of bass and im trying to cut it down but when i do something sounds outta place, pls help. thank you
moneymoney220666 1 year ago
Impressive man, you showed all this naps that guitar simulations are not that bad as everybody believes. I've been on the forum of the guy who recorded machine heads album, and he posted a sample of the guitars recorded without any eq, effects etc. Horrible.
U R right, the whole track makes the sound ^^ This simulators are acutally pretty good!
Nice Work!

Why is the file name ending .at3p
I am using Amplitube 3 also and my saved projects end in .at3h?????
And I can't load your setup because of the .at3p????
Blade00Warrior 1 year ago
@Blade00Warrior you have to put the file in the presets folder, then you can look for it in amplitube in the presets section and load it from there. it is not a project file

Wow......this is amazing. I'm trying to decide if I should get pod farm 2 platinum or amplitube 3. Which one is better in you opinion? Do you think pod farm2 would be capable of producing this tone?

People... the key here is being good at mixing.

Please help :)
jacquesokes 1 year ago

@fearcomplexmusic
Great video, the impulses really give a good kick in the teeth tone wise. Especially stereo doubled.
I was wondering, when you do Quad tracking do you run each stereo signal through 2 seperate amps or do you actually physically track 4 rhythm tracks?
theshawz 1 year ago
@theshawz always 4 separate takes, nailed tight or there'll be an ugly cloudy phasey sound.
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic thats EXACTLY what happened to me, perhaps I should put more time into tracking then. When you use the tape saturator and EQ, do you tend to do it to each track or do you bounce the guitars to one track and put those effects on after?
theshawz 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic
You mean 2 on the left channel and 2 on right?
Flexo550 1 year ago
@Flexo550 thats right, 2 left 2 right.

Dude... first of all my compliments for your efforts concerning metal mixing tips. Maybe then i can see what's going wrong here. many thanks in advance.. my mail is b59110@live.nl

b59110 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic I got them. Thanx really helpfull... Did you compress the signal before recording? or is this the pure guitarsignal? gr
b59110 1 year ago
@b59110 it's just the clean guitar signal, I never compress rhythm guitars, only leads.
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic okay. Many thanx from Holland Dude, you really helped me out. Just ripped out my passsive pickups and installled my good old EMG-81. That solved about 90% of my problems. I have only one more things. I got the clean signal almost the same eq-wise that is. But the only thing that is really diffferent are the palmmutes. Yours are very clean and clear in the low end. So are mine but a i get this really harsch mettalic high sound allong with it. Any ideas how to get rid of this??
b59110 1 year ago
@b59110 Good to hear! Try picking as close to the bridge as possible. The closer you pick to the neck the more you choke your tone and lose low end. It can take a while to get out of this habit, I know for a while I had to watch my picking hand to make sure it didn't drift towards the neck. See if this helps.

There really is no need for impulses anymore with AMP3. There is much more going on in the cab section than a static impulse

Once again marvelous job with the mixing. I don't understand why you're not producing for some mainstream metal bands. You need to get your work out there! Producers would be fools to turn you down!
How long have you been doing this for? Sounds sooooooooo professional.
Scorge120 1 year ago
@Scorge120 Thanks! have a lot to learn yet but I'm finding you can make progress reasonably quick if you're really in to it. It's definitely not the science the people with the so called 'magic ears' claim it to be anyway. I was in a nice studio years back and the guy behind the desk just couldn't do metal so I went and got a 4 track recorder. I realized after that experience that the best gear isn't essential and what really is important is to simply know how you want it to sound in your head!
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago
Nice tone man! I don't understand how to use the patch in Amplitube tho... I have uploaded my video using your impulse now :)
phycho91 1 year ago
@phycho91 Hey put the patch in your amplitube preset folder, most likely C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\AmpliTube 3\Presets and it should show up then. I checked out your track and it sounds good, has a great 'live' feel to it!
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic Thanks man, technically the vocals are live I guess :P I think your impulse helped alot with that too, made it sound alot more natural than the other impulses I have. How do I save the patch tho? When I click on it, a download bar doesn't appear it just opens as a new window in Windows Internet Explorer with alot of text... Do I copy and paste this text into something?
phycho91 1 year ago
@phycho91 Try right clicking on it and choose "save link as". It should then allow you to save it. If it doesn't let me know and I'll upload it somewhere else or something.
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic Yes it worked! Thank you! I can only save as xml though, is this right? Presets I've used for Amplitube before have been ".at3" format.
phycho91 1 year ago
@phycho91 No that doesn't sound right, I can upload it in a folder, do you have winrar? Can you open .rar folders?
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic Yes I can open .rar archives! :) I checked the other amplitube patch, the 5150 tone and this is the same... I right click, then click save target as, and the only option is to save it as xml or all files.
phycho91 1 year ago
can i also use it with guitar rig or some other programms?
TheFruityLoopFactory 1 year ago
@TheFruityLoopFactory Can you use the impulse? Sure you can use it with any amp sim that you can disable the cabinet in.
fearcomplexmusic 1 year ago
@fearcomplexmusic when i record guitar tracks and put them into some of the virtual amps, and use the guitarhack impulses with them,
