  • beautiful tribute video. beautiful ships. gj

  • The Germans throughout the years have built beautiful ships, beautiful but dangerous to the enemy. In almost every way these ships were more advanced and overall built better then their counterparts in other navies. Very nice movie.

  • Gneisenau/Scharnhorst/Bismarck/Tirpitz/Graf spee/Prinz Eugen/Deutschland/Scheer, all were beautiful ships.

  • The last of the modern ships not to have radar. How come the Germans didn't put radar on their capital ships?

  • @muffymodo

Actually they had radar on their ships and Germany were leading in radar technology at the start of ww2, Graf spee used radar to hit the crusiers Ajax Achilles and the third one in the battle, Bismarck had radar as well but when they used the guns for the first time outside iceland the recoil damaged it and Prinz eugen took Bismarcks place since PE had radar but with smaller range.

  • Eisiger Sturm, Nebel und Nacht,

    Nordlichtshelle, des Ozeans Pracht.

Sind stete Begleiter auf jagender Fahrt,

Uns Männern der Scharnhorst, trotzig und hart.

Kameraden vom Schlachtschiff, wir trotzen den Tod,

    Fahren in leuchtendes Morgenrot.

    Lachende Augen, sieghafter Blick.

  • top musik ,wunderfull the best !

  • Too bad that the Gneisenau was heavily damaged and the replacement for 380mm (6 x 380 mm) was never finished. Would have been much more powefull ship if it had taken place.

  • @MaxxAue 380mm guns of course

  • Comment removed

  • Deutsche Kriegsmarine!

  • scharnhorst fighted as last .. i thin no ship in teh ww2 has more hit as scharnhosrt

  • @Kampfdaemon Yes, fantastic ships. Nothing to add. :)

  • ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thanks !!

  • Oh, i suddenly found the answer. My friend told me it is "Trinity" by James Dooley. And it really is.

  • Thanks for briiliant video.

But i'd like to join people asking what is the source of this impressive music.

Tunatic said that it is Sinead O'Connor "Toy the phoenix from the flame (PUSH remix)", lol. I've listened it — absolutely unlike...

  • who knows the name of this song?

  • A worthy enemy. Respect.

  • Great video!

This is a masterpiece of german engineers.

  • what is the name of the background music for this video?

  • Scharnhorst & Gneisenau is just that. Can't say more or less, amazing war ships.

  • @Guech2010 They were undergunned and under armoured. Not to mention that their stern's were weak.

  • @DannyBoy777777

under gunned YES, under amoured...... NO their belts were 350mm thick............. but as with all germany ww2 vessels bad amour disposition (they tried to stick amour on almost anything, and so wasted amour, that would have been better used for horizontal protection)

  • @DannyBoy777777 Even more powerful guns and armour wouldnt helped. Scharnhorst was eventually hunted down by half of british fleet. No ship would do better, not even american Iowa-class.

  • May. I contribute. As stated Leyte was 4 0r 5 seperate actions. The last Battleship to Battleship action was Surigao Straight.(2 japanese BBs against 6 US BBsThe 2 Japs were sunk. Also involved were Cruisers (3jap, 3 US) Light Cruisers (1Jap, 5 US ) and desroyers (11 jap. 29 US )

There may have been many more ships at Leyte, but Jutland was the last big BB v BB action.

Carriers did not exist in WW1

  • @Hohenstaufen100 thank you bro, just a hobby hehe.

  • LONG LIVE SACRED GERMANY!!!

  • Long life Germany. !

  • the best video.sount top,the best

  • Great footage, and the music is very fitting :)

  • Superb ships, superb video! Thank you!

  • . . . . . Und Matrose ? ! tja ! NOch für diesem ich sagt = Sieg Heil. . .

  • What a waste to send her chasing in vain after a Russian bound convoy, but the Battle of the Atlantic was essentially over and Donitz (Readers replacment). The Battle of North Cape was the last naval battle to use just big guns vs big guns in history, and I have great respect for this style of naval warfare where you acctualy met an enemy vessel face to face and duked it out with massive artillery. Regardless of whose side you were on, seeing 1800 sailors die just sucked ass..RIP Scharnhorst...

  • @DarkIndustry502 You need to brush up on your history mate. The Battle of North Cape, (Dec. 1943), was not the last battleship vs battleship, ("big gun"), encounter in history. The Battle of Leyte Gulf (Oct. 1944) was not only the last one, but in fact, the largest naval battle in history.

  • @Zorglubb

Larger than jutland aye mate ;-P

    I DOUBT IT :)

  • @metube1120 Are you kidding me? Jutland was a huge clash of force, no doubt about that, but there were by far more numerous ships on the US side alone in Leyte plus over 1500 aircraft. Not mentioning the difference in size and firepower between WWI and WWII warships.

The Battle of Jutland was 151 English vs 99 German ships, The Battle of Leyte Gulf was 310 ships (not including PT boats and submarines) and 1500 aircraft on the US side, 68 ships and 300 aircraft on the Japanese side.

  • @Zorglubb

Yeah same mistake as Darkinustry502, though its apparently 'arguable'

How many of the BB involved were post 1930? I've tried to find out the names of the ships involved but to no avail

In terms of 'big gun' ships jutland is the largest by a significant margin, in terms of total amount of ships (without including aircraft) the battle of leyte gulf wins (its hard to compare carriers plus planes as they played a very minor role in naval matters in ww1)

  • @metube1120 Indeed and often a great source of debate. There are 3 modern age naval battles that divide between them the "largest" factors, Jutland 1916, The Battle of the Philippine Sea 1944 and The Battle of Leyte Gulf / The Second Battle of the Philippine Sea 1944. Some dispute Leyte because it was 4 seperate engagements between the forces which took place on a vast space of ocean, but it's still only the single Japanese "Shō-Gō 1" operation that sparked the whole event.

  • @Zorglubb Now that I check my sources (this time War at Sea by Nathan Miller), you are correct. I apparently mistook the phrase "One" of the last gun battles for "The" last gun battle. I am still reading up on the specifics of Lete Gulf, and am just now realizing the scope of it- essentially the Jutland of WWll, and with my fav type of warship (Yamato class) seing its only ever gun duel (poor Musashi). Recomend any good books?

  • @DarkIndustry502 Sure thing man, you want books on naval warfare in general or just about Leyte? I'd recommend you start off by checking out the superb episode about Leyte in the Battlefield series. You can find it right here on YouTube in 10 parts. Just search for: The Battle of Leyte Gulf - (1/10) Battlefield and work from there.

  • @Zorglubb I just got a highly recomended book called "the Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors", and I believe it is abaout the destroyer battles durring Lete, but I seem to be drawn to books of a more general history of naval warfare, world war 1 and 2 (or any naval combat before 1950). , like "Sea of Thunder". I also am becoming fascinated with the battlecruiser tactics of Jutland, any good books on battlecruisers/super dreadnaughts or Yamato class warships?

  • @DarkIndustry502 "A Battle History of the Imperial Japanese Navy, 1941-1945" by Paul S. Dull is an excellent book about the IJN. I recommend the phenomenal "History of United States Naval Operations in World War II" a 15 volume set of books by Samuel Eliot Morison, published between 1947-1962. It does not include later declassified intelligence information tho. My absolute favorite on naval warfare is "Ten Years, Twenty Days" the wartime memoirs of Großadmiral Karl Dönitz.

  • the german navy had the most beautifull ship in the world and the finest and a good battleships looks those ships look like real ships :)

  • Sorry to ask again but this music is amazing and really suits the video -where does it come from??

  • dude... if u get ban... create your site somewhere... because we need your videos. world need those videos!!!!

  • Where can I find the music from this clip pls?

  • And we do know that all germans that fought were not fighting for NSM we know alot of people were dragged in and were fighting for your country good luck to you from Canada

  • I don't see your videos as bad videos or you trying to advertize or being pro

national socialism they are just cool ww2 videos

  • Hey pedroclassic , if you had served under lütjens you would be where

he is, which would be a good idea with your political views

  • I sometimes wonder had the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau operated where Graf Spee began the havoc could have been worse. Scharnhorst and Gneisenau had better guns (28cm. C/34), then that of Adm. Graf Spee's (28cm. C/28). Also the Radar was better then that of Graf Spee. 80cm Seetakt vs the 60cm of Graf Spee. Had these two been operating south with U-boat protection I think they would have sunk the 3 RN Cruisers in their first encounter. IMO

  • @JuergenGDB@JuergenGDB There is no way that the oil-burning ships of the German navy of WWII could have made it to the South Atlantic....the Germans simply did not have the logistical support for such a misson. The "pocket battleships" (Graf Spee, Lutzow et al) burned diesel, and were designed with loooong ocean cruises in mind, no support needed.

  • EPIC!!!

sailors of all nations rest in peace.

PEDROCLASSIC fuck you nazi asshole !

  • this dont have nothing with damn national socialism, they are german warriors !!

  • I Would have served with the WAFFEN SS " Totenkopf" armored divisionen in the battle of the bulge

  • I would have served under feld marschall Erwin Rommel with the 21st Panzer "The Afrika Korps" divisonen. now that's an honor !!!! SIEG HEIL !!!!!

  • i wanna serve in the kriegsmarine under admiral lutjens gunther in the BISMARCK.

  • @Bunkerfreaks Umm...if you were on the Scharnhorst, you were pretty bloody unlucky. Christmas, 1943, she zigged, when she should have zagged, and took four 14" shells from the the Duke of York. Three Scharnhorst men that made it to shore safely later died when their emergency heater exploded. She was a VERY unlucky ship!

  • @killingamps if you were on any german warship @1943 you were unlucky. The war at Sea ended for the german marine in 1942. The Scharnhorst couldn't face 1 battleship of the King George V Class plus 1 heavy cruiser / 3 light cruisers and 9 destroyers which faced her at the battle of North Cape.

  • the sexiest warships ever built !

  • Like all the other German capital ships during WW2 these superior ships were not put to there maximum use, what a pity! They never worked as a group i mean the surfce fleet.

  • under-gunned and without proper aircover!..and.outnumbered...(the z-plan was a decade late)

  • Very nice video!! Always loved Kriegsmarine!

  • das so wirklich Schade so schöne Schiff unter See fertig geht ! ! ! und so Gut Männer Tod. Warum ? Warum Kommandant nicht genug aufpass gemacht. . .

  • .......=(

  • I just love the Scharnhorst!

  • Great Work **Epic**

    5/5 Points.

  • schanhorst you are my buty for ever

  • haaaaaaaaaaa like hoooooooooood but thatwas bicsmark birskmark did nothing like schanhorst

  • what???

  • ahhh!!!! the terrible twins!!!!

beautiful ships, they had a sad end

  • @salamander163

It was the "ugly sisters" they were nick named by the British, with reference to the panto dames. Far from ugly but made me chuckle. PS My Grand farther helped put a few rounds into the one sister as he was on the Renown, But he did get injured by the other ugy sister when she threw her purse before running. ;-)

  • they were also know as the salmon and glock, bo9th ships have the record for the longest hit on the carrier glorious

  • beauty

  • whats the song called?

  • @LindFilms yeah, i'm curious about the song 2

  • Actually, the Scarnhorst might well have made it home to be another tallboy target, had that one lucky 14 in. hit from DofY not cut that steam-pipe. The reduction in speed allowed the destroyers to catch up, and it was game over.

  • One lucky hit? Perhaps you are dismissing the gunnery skill of the Duke of York too easily.

  • Thank you so mutch for this gerat video

  • He better watch out. Youtube already suspended SamMalone's account for some unknown reason. Anyone with good videos is a risk for suspention. Fucking youtube...

  • I put so much heart and sould in my videos, trying to show that many of these soldiers were normal people like you and me, fighting for their home country.

I always tried in opposite to others to prevent my videos from the impact of national socialism.

If YouTube decides to suspend / ban me, I will never come back.

  • your right, btw sry about my bad eng but I mean that people cant say that germans was monsters and stuff like that they did have friends, familys like you and me and they die for their land and honor for what they did belive like any other soldier.

  • That would be despicable for youtube to do that.

  • @GermanWarRemembrance

ah you must come back! - your videos are good -- keep your videos on your hard drive too not just here !

  • @GermanWarRemembrance

    You are against national socialism?

  • @GermanWarRemembrance

i'm not. because i am one my self, but all in all, we are fighting for the same Country beleives and Traditions and who cares what people think on some-one elses pollitics, We are all Human 'till the day we die. Deutschland über alles!

  • @ThePanzerWarMachine

  • @MrBathelemont

okay, thanks for letting me know. =D

  • @GermanWarRemembrance I totally am with you on your view of the Wehrmacht soldiers. I enjoy your videos and the music you put in with your footage fits perfectly man. You do have that professional touch on all of your videos. I wish I had the videos to try and put my own version of "paying respect" to the German Army & those men that laid down their lives. I actually do 3D modeling and have started to create animations of the "Air War". I hope I can create masterpieces like you.

  • Most gracious battlecruisers ever build !

  • Das waren noch Schiffe. Nicht solche wie heutzutage^^

  • Nice choice of Music! Would you be kind enough to let us know the name of that work? Also a well put together tribute. I remember reading about these two ships and the terror they caused on the North Atlantic when I was a kid. Very cool to see pictures like these!

  • Genial!

  • They both ran the English Channel in broad daylight in 42 from Brest to Kiel and the only damage they suffered was when one of them hit a mine an RAF heavy dropped in front of them earlier.

  • thanks !!

  • hammer aufnahmen!

In Memory of German Battleship and his Soldiers

  • what are the name of the song?

  • These were 2 very nice looking ships, its too bad they didnt add the larger 14.96" guns because these ships were very under armed for thir size.

  • It was part of their design though, to keep them light and fast. They were commerce raiders, so speed was vital. They were armed to smash a heavy cruiser and anything smaller. They weren't intended to go toe to toe with battleships.

  • out gun anyting smaller and out run anything bigger i think they say

  • That was the motto for the so called pocket battleships. SH and GU were intended to sail together and fight the alliied convoys/merchant ships.

  • they were intended to go up aginst Battleships and they would have been classed as Battleships if they had the 14.96" guns on and they were originally supose to be armed with the 14.96" guns but the production of turrnets and guns was too slow for the navys liking and with WW2 particly planned they need the ships ready sooner so they equiped them with the 11" guns which were built quicker, it was said they would be able to reamr them later whe they had the time.

  • Right, I never knew that. Always thought they were purpose build as battlecruisers.

  • Sry, but according to Siegfried Breyer, the writer of Battleships & Battlecruiser 1905-1970, they choose 11" for political reason.

At this point nobody would allowed the German Navy to have more than 11" (Versailles treaty). To rearm both ships with 14,98" double turrets was planned for very later (to build these weapons, the Germans need 5 years, at last.). Only Gneisenau was mentioned to build up with 14,98" and remove the 5,9" medium Artillery & 4,1" AA-Guns by 5,1"Dual pupose.

  • But this was 1943/44 and due the lack of ressources, the plan was skipped.

  • Schade,

die waren zu schön zum versenken...

  • ich bedauern, eine so schön Schiff, unter See er ist. das musste N I E kommen. . . schade für alle.

für immer, er ist unseren Kopf, denken.

  • yes they are.. But i dint know if there twin sisters or just sisters?

    NIKKI

  • They where near perfect twins. The only real difference until G's destruction was that whehn Scharnhorst was upgraded in the late 30s her mast was moved from the funnel into her famous tripod where as G did not get her mast move. Though this would have changed if she had been upgraded to the 15 inch guns.

  • @roaklin Of course, the Scharnhorst had that lovely North Atlantic bow, while Gneisenau had the straight bow.

  • @killingamps I recall both ships being fitted with the Atlantic bow June-August 1939 Scharnhorst, and Gneisenau completed August 1939.

  • @JuergenGDB Thank you for correcting me. I have been laboring my whole life under the misconception that Gneisenau never got the NA bow. She simply didn't have it yet when she cruised with Scharnhorst in '40.

  • @JuergenGDB Thank you for correcting me. I have been laboring under a misconception for my entire life. Gneisenau simply did not have the NA bow until after her cruise with Scharnhorst in '40, and those pics stuck in my brain.

  • Nice, Beautiful warships...
