  • I've never had to clip a bird's wings. Just make sure to cover up any windows that it's near or it could fly into them. Other than that, it's healthy for parakeets to fly around your house. If you have kids then it can get complicated because kids have a long track record of being irresponsible when handling small pets.

  • I'm considering getting a parakeet and I would love to be able to play with it. I am curious about getting their wings clipped however. I figure I should get them clipped, but what if it fell off my shoulder or something similar?

  • @GoreyPsycopath

the parakeet wont just fall off your shoulder. If it ever fell its would flap its wings n fall to the ground at an angle. But make sure it's chest wont be damaged because thats harmful. But yeah lol

  • if you did clip the wings they do grow back after 6-8 months

  • How do u clip there wings ?

  • I would like to train mine to fly to my shoulder and set there ^_^

  • Clipping a birds wings is like painlessly cutting off a persons legs, leaving them to crawl around with just their arms.

  • i loled at 1:28 haha

  • mine just died this morning

  • shes like dont touch me im too pretty!

  • i let my birds fly in the house and put a cage there for them they will always go to there cage if there tame because they will feel secure there

  • I wanna clip my bird Blu's wings cuz I want him to get out of the cage, but at the same time it wouldn't be a bird

  • @themike2048 you can tame them without clipping wings

  • Why have a BIRD if you clip the wings?? Buy a guinea pig or something instead and save the birds from severe handicap!

  • why dont you get a harness idiot not clip a birds wings

    there on ebay dum idiot

  • i need help! my budgie was recently attacked by a cat or we think by another one of our budgies. he's lost wing and was bleedingbut it has stopped, he has survived the night, and seems to be fine, he is in a quiet room to recover. should i take him to the vet? and will his wing grow back?

please reply it will be a very big help!

  • @XXJadeLouiseeXX

Lmao, what? Will his wing grow back?

No. He will most likely die.

  • @sixshades well i didnt know.. anyways he's fine he hasnt died. :D

  • @XXJadeLouiseeXX dont listen to six shades he is not going to die bring him to the vet and they will do what they can and eventually his feather will grow back and your budgie will be fine

  • I think clipping is terrible, they are meant to fly.

  • Why do most Americans refer to budgerigars as parakeets?

  • My old parakeets never had their wings clipped! I would let them fly around the house for exercise!

Wing clipping is cruel and unnecessary.

  • I had a parakeet without clipped wings. Flew out the door 2 days before the weather started getting really cold. Not clipping it's wings also has it's bad points.

  • My parakeet came super friendly or at least part friendly because he let me pet his stomach the first time I got him :)

  • @MeAndMyBirdRio lol how cute ^_^... mine just bit me :(... but then cuddled with me and acted like i was his moma wen he got to know me ^_^ <3

  • are male parakeets friendlier then females?

  • @Kslim07 Either one actually it don't matter the gender. It just has to be hand tamed to be friendly.

  • @Kslim07 YES!..

  • My beautiful English Budgie, tweet-Tweet has just died..

I got her when I was 3 we grew up together! Im 11 now but i cant believe it.

I want a parakeet thnx for the video.

My bird died of seizures, and strokes. Nothing we could have done. she was 7.

  • Mine was the nicest of the bunch at the store but was entirely antisocial. uness a bird is flying a lot it doesn't need long wings so I would clip hers (besides we had too many places for her to perch high up) unfortunately she was a little more determined and even with them clipped as far as i was willing to go she could still fly straight up to the ceiling. eventually she came to me ^-^ But i still kept them shortish so the poor cat's could come out of their room when she finally got tired.

  • at 0:59 the bird shakes her head :)))))

  • hes mocking him lol

  • Why to clip parakeet's wings? That is just you like without bones, or because parakeet's will get out of your window? Get suck! You will buy a new parakeet. They are just like 30-100 dollars!

  • what do i do my parakeet was like scared of me like yesterday in then since i first bought him in today hes all exiceted and runs in the cage when i walk beside him then i put my finger he tryed to get close then i put a lil sitck then he got intop of it what do i do next? so i can get him use to me so he can get use to me so when i take him out so he wont leave flying away

  • He said clipping a parakeet's wing is NOT cool? I think he meant not clipping the wings. Correct me if I am wrong guys im not sure lol...is it good or bad. 1:26 listen

  • @DrGamble28 lol bro he said cruel

  • i like how the parakeet starts moving away from the guys other hand

  • I want my bird to fly (and she can) but I don't want her to fly too much until she gets a little more tame. would be alright If I left some primary flight feathers but not all until she's fully trained?

  • @LexiBandGeek if u trying 2 tame ur parakeet , its best not leave any flight feather . if ur parakeet takes off u want her 2 safely glide 2 the ground.

  • @dragonair2000 I've had a parakeet that still managed to fly even without his flight feathers. ...

  • @sintofg i was just trying 2 help ..

  • shut up patsshephere

    he is smater than you

  • shut up patsshephere

  • hes ok ur idiots

  • This guy sure can talk a lot without saying anything.

  • @MariAnKenobi He was good. Try listening instead of hearing.

  • what is the turn out of a cockotiel being feather picked on,

what would you saay it would turn out ass!??

  • I love this pet

  • Oh, and if you don't want a pet that can fly: Get a guinepig, hamster, rat. Animals that doesn't have wings. They don't fly anyway

  • Wing clipping is like gluing a man to a wheelchair. "No you can't run! You'll fall and hurt yourself!". Sure the bird might hit the window a few times, but they learn, and most of them get out of it with the scare, just like when we fall we get up. And young birds are clumsy fliers, they need to practice. Place post-its on the windows untill they learn that there is something there.

  • @anaiseth When some birds hit the window they are killed. Feathers grow back.

  • I'd NEVER wing clip a budgie. In fact, I wouldn't wing clip ANY bird if it's not sick and it is needed. It's a bird, they fly, that's what they do. "Crash and hurt itself"? Birds everywhere manage to fly extremly precicely as long as you let it practice its flying skills. I know people with Aras they never wing clipped their bird, and they are just fine. My birds have never been wing clipped, they fly and they don't just go flying and crashing all the time. They learn to calculate.

  • birdy say Dun touch meh

  • Too bad I didn't see this video earlier this year... My bird had ALL these symptoms from the morning and he died later that night... I tried to get him to a vet at night when I was sure something was wrong, but we couldn't afford it, so we called and tried to take care of him ourselves... Didn't work :(

  • I'm getting the same color parakeet for my birthday

  • he says the same thing for the cockatiel wtf and y are cockatiels called cockatiels

  • @bario46cityhights

'cause they're a subgenius of the cockatoo.

  • that parakeet is trained to go out of its cage and stay close to him

  • sooooooooooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How to Buy a Parakeet:

    1. go in a pet shop

    2. pick a bird

    3. pay for it

    4. and ge the fuck out of the shop!

    its that simple......

  • typ aksehirli42ful zie je mijn vogels

  • 1:00 hhahaahhahahaa

  • 00:55 hhahaahhahahaa

  • I really want to get a bird as pet but my father will get mad if the bird is too loud.

  • @AungTH1 theyy not loudd i qot 2 of themm andd i even forqet theyy exist ...they really quiet andd adorablee !

  • LOL that bird is shivering!

  • cute

  • i think that budgie is scared cuz it looks like its having trouble breathing o.0?

  • @castleoblivion13

no looks like hes just looking around

  • That bird is scared you can tell by it doing the thing with its beak

  • In my opinion, clipping the wings of your budgie is the same as tying the legs of your dog together.

  • @B4Malfoy more like putting your pet dog on a lead or to confine it to your back garden

  • @Fenhawk11 exactly! i totaly agree!

  • @B4Malfoy

  • @B4Malfoy wow ur retarded. how is it ANYTHING like that? that would mean the dog couldnt go anywhere but when budgies wings are clipped they just cant fly. but they can still walk, run ect. it isnt mean or anything. it is SOOO ignorent when people say that.

  • @Koolkid736 It's my opinion. Budgies don't have wings for nothing. By clipping the wings, you force the bird to stay with you, even when it's not in the mood for playing.

When I post MY opinion, it doesn't mean I'm "retarded" when you don't agree with me.

  • @B4Malfoy Well actually its not like tying a dogs legs together its like having your dog off leash and letting it run around the nieghborhood becuase clipping their wings won't make them fall it will just let them glide. But mainly people clip their wings if they can't handle the bird or they are beginners and well that store that the guy is in is huge and he had to clip the wings or the bird so it wouldn't would fly up and get hurt or in some serious danger. So its like the dog. :)

  • @MeAndMyBirdRio I agree with you there. For beginning bird owners, it may be good to clip the birds wings so they can begin to create a relationship. But after a while, when the bird is used to the owner and the house, I prefer to let the wings grow and let them fly. =)

  • @B4Malfoy Yeah thats what I did with my parakeet after awhile and yet he always returned to his cage and I didn't even have to get him lol.^^

  • @B4Malfoy i agree

  • I didn't clip my cockatiel's wings, but I DID clip my budgie's wings because when they weren't clipped, she'd bite me. Well she could still fly a bit because I didn't clip them low, but she'd have to work real hard at it.

It doesn't force the bird to stay with you. When my budgie wanted to play, she'd jump onto my finger. When she didn't, she'd walk away. They let you know when they're done.

BUT I see way too many people putting up posters/ads for "lost birds".

So there are pros and cons.

  • @shinocicada I agree. Actuelly, I believe all things have pro's and con's.

Because of this pro's and con's, people can judge things and draw their conclusion. Our view on things makes us unique, so everyone is free to have an own opinion. ;D

  • @B4Malfoy I agree with you but the only reason I clip my birds wing's are for training purposes.

  • @B4Malfoy I agree, I only trim one or two feathers to keep it from picking up too much speed. my room is rather small and slamming into a wall can't feel good. and that's only while i'm training it the first week or so till it gets used to startling sounds and the like. my cockatiels, i've had for eleven years are not trimmed and rarely fly anyway, they like to explore on the ground or climb around on their cage.

  • @dragonrage122 yes:) the wings should never be cut so much that they can`t fly.

  • @Trollfux it breaks my heart to see birds falling like a brick with so many feathers clipped. mine are perfectly happy, and I let them out of the cage every day, so they're used to seeing people walking by, or talking and pettting them.

  • @dragonrage122 That`s very nice:) What kind of birds do you have? :)) And btw: Do you know of any good books/dvds about African Greys and how to train them? (Thought since you got birds maybe you know) :D

  • @Trollfux i have two cockatiels and more recently got a young hand raised budgie parakeet. I can't say i do, but they are smart enough that if you have treats and a dog training clicker you could probably train them that way. it's how i've trained my cockatiels to step up and wave. find out what they love and you can use that as a treat. each bird is so different there's really no set way to train them, but you don't want to criticize them too much or they'll get cranky.

  • @B4Malfoy better than letting it fly out the door when someone leaves in the middle of winter... dumbass.

  • @feefeenthemonsta21 Oh, don't start that. There is always a risk that the bird flies away. So? Be careful.

My bird isn't clipped, and I am always careful when she comes near the door.

Of course, clipping wings has it's advantages and disadvantages.

I respect my bird, and I want her to do what she loves most; flying. So I decided to not clip my birds wings. Don't start calling me dumbass when it's my opinion.

  • @B4Malfoy whateverr,

  • @B4Malfoy whateverr, you know if you let it fly it could get hurt worse than clipping its wings(obviously), because it could run into walls and if you cooking it could even fly into the kitchen & be burned badly...ohhh well, its YOUR bird.

  • @B4Malfoy No...dogs wouldn't fly away and leave you but these fuckers will if you don't clip the wings...and one of pigeon hurt itself flying in the room, it hit the fan and then I trimmed the wings until it learnt to control itself.

  • @B4Malfoy I know, In MY opinion, I think it's cruel...You are SO correct! :)

  • @B4Malfoy

    or tying your own legs

  • @B4Malfoy

It is not a bad thing. In fact, it is even safe. If they escape, there is no way they can survive. Also, you don't want your bird to fly into the toilet, into a pan, etc.

  • @B4Malfoy is that a good or bad thing?

  • My friends dad owned a bird with it's wings clipped (ya'll know what I mean). He also had three dogs. He fed these dags from a loft above the play pen, he tossed them bread, hotdogs, doughnuts etc and they'd catch it mid air and whoof it down. One day the bird accidentally fell off the edge of the loft.......need I say more. Chuckle out load. I had to try real hard not to luagh whe he told me that story.

  • that budgie is panting like it is stressed.

  • What does Lethargik mean?

  • @Studmuffindk Lethargic = tired

  • my parakeet wont do anythig since my other parakeet died its all ways standing in a corner not doing anything what should i do

  • The bird is lipsyching. XD

  • looks like its a budgie

    lol

  • @gamerzAnswer budgies and parakeets are the same thing.

  • @aideenly No, a Budgie is bigger.

  • @Studmuffindk A budgie is a parakeet, but not all parakeets are budgies.

  • is that a maggot on ur hand!!?

  • hei men somthing fal from the head of the beard to your hand at 1:01 /2:10

  • Albino Parakeet FTW! :D

  • this should be called ''How to CHOOSE a Parakeet''!

  • youtube.com/watch?v=qAyWD26z9kY

  • I choose my parakeet because she was gettin picked on by the other parakeets

  • the parrots going like wtf whats he doing

  • @lopez3486 Budgie**

  • @02danielc i know

  • @lopez3486 ...

  • i had two of them but they flew away

  • how much does a parakeet cost and can it talk

  • @DAVIDTV101 like 15 dollars and it can with alot of training it will

  • are u in petsmart cuz its looks like my local pet smart

  • U always have to play with your keet mean or not they need it

  • take out the words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PARAKEETS ARE FUN AND CUTE.

  • i dont know wether to buy a cockatiel or a budjie

  • I have a parakeet but hes to scared to come out of the cage hes afrad of my hand i dont know what to do

  • @Gregjennings920 mine too and thats enoying cause i can't play with them :|

  • @lovepets4eveer - i had a parakeet and had the same problem. my recommendation is take it one step at a time start with the cage putting ur hand in and trying to show it its ok n giving it a snack and treating it if its getting there it takes patience and some time but evetually it will come if not u can try putting on gloves or something to cover your hand if nothing like that works then the bird probably dosent wanna be held and likes 2 be alone.

  • @sejlas2009 my bird i have had for years is just like that! he just does not like to be handled i guess its just his personality i still luv him though

  • to buy a parakeet you go to the store and pay for it thats how you buy it

  • @toughguitar1 lol

  • LOL

  • @toughguitar1 and easy as that :D

  • Wing-clipping is rather pointless. A parakeet is meant to fly, and call me naive, but I believe parakeets know not to fly into things. And if one does then it learns - providing it hasn't flown off to parakeet heaven, of course. Better that it flies around and learns than sits on a perch stagnating.

  • @toughguitar1 You have to find out if it's sick or not.

  • @toughguitar1 lol i was laughing soo hard on your comment that was sooo funny

  • I love playing with my bird! We mimick him and make kissy noises and he gets very playful. He'll run back n forth to kiss us and he'll climb on us. He is the best parakeet a girl could ask for. He loves me so much!

  • aaw cute, reminds me og my old one

  • Hi, My budgies cage mate died this morning how can i come my budgie down? he is really shaken up :` (

  • you shoul dplay some calming parakeets sounds, like a flock. Theres one on youtube. Your parakeet probably feels lost without his mate and he needs to hear other parakeet noises. Do this everyday morning and night. Talk to him slowely and be very nice and assuring to him. :)

  • Thanks x

  • whats the difference of attractive to get out and play with and friendly is to take it out of its cage and play with it whats the differnce? i dont know!

  • the word is "Budgie"

  • Expert Village tells him exactly what they want him to say. They give him a list of bullet points to go over, and he has to talk about specific things. This isn't just him talking out of his ass.

  • You forgot to mention one thing: they spook easily.

  • They do in fact "spook" easily. This is a trait of the parakeet that you must keep in mind when buying one. It is not a pet for young children, but makes a great compainion for older children and adults.

  • WRONG!! You doNOT want a budgie that has clipped wings. Only lazy, idiots have their bird's wings clipped

  • You left a lot of info out. Like the color of the ceres in determining if it is a male or female. That females are less social and more aggressive as are more like to bite hard. Where as males have a larger vocabulary and are much softer biters and are more friendly. Also how to tell if they are young by the dark colored beaks, black eyes, and strips on their head going all the way to their cere. It is always better to get a young one 6 months and under. You will tame it much easier.

  • put full screen and go to 55 sec and press play watch by the bird and the guys arm and the bird will shak his head and somhting flys onto his arm

  • @mprutherford birds have a lot of dandruff apparently

  • @mprutherford its more at 59 seconds

  • @mprutherford probobly a feather?

  • @mprutherford lol thats a feather

  • @mprutherford

    best comment ever!

  • @mprutherford

    hahaha...

  • can theese talk?

  • They do have a slightly large vocablulary, but it takes much patience and repetition.

  • hey was up dude?

  • the parakeet is like "STOP FILMING ME BEFORE I KICK UR ASS"

  • lol i know the bird just like looks like he is about to bite his butt off

  • I have try in many stores here in greece to find a young parakeet, but i didnt find any small birds.

  • Are you really going to listen to advice from someone who does not even know what a parakeet is? He is holding a budgerigar, a member of the Melopsittacus undulatus species. It is just one of over 90 different species of parakeets.

And what is all this talk about something attractive vs. to play with?? If you only care about it for looks, don't get a living pet. Buy a picture. Pets are not decorations. Parrots can be tame, friendly, loving companions and should be given the respect they deserve

  • What about fish?

  • Actually even fish can be trained. YouTube doesn't let you post links in the comments so I can only tell you to search "japanese fish swimming in formation" to see that this can be done. I don't know of many people training fish and keeping them for anything more than decoration but just saying it's possible.

But when it comes to parrots, they don't just like training and attention, they need it. They are intelligent social animals. Don't buy a parrot to keep in cage all day just to look at,

  • I've done some research, and yeah, I was really confused as to why on earth people kept calling budgies parakeets. I think that for whatever reason, it's just gotten into popular culture that these things are also called parakeets. And, yeah, they MAY be parakeets, but it's almost as bad as taking a beta fish and just saying "To care for your fish..." :/ People really should insist on calling them budgies for the sake of clarity. Not just whatever scientific grouping of bird they're under.

  • is cool

  • look, i keep seeing people saying clip its wings, for a number of reasons. THIS IS NOT NESESARY. i tamed my budgie with out clipped wings, and i have never clipped his wings. if you are resbonsible, and the bird does love you, then you have no need to clips its wings. the bird wont want to leave you. if i leave a room, my budgie flock calls a bit, then i call him, and he flys out to me.

  • thats really cool. i'll keep that in mind. tho maybe i;ll clip its wings for the first few weeks to keep it from flying out the door and into the neighbors cat. maybe a few weeks to get it used to me. then there wont be a need for it. i dont really like the thought of clipping wings. =(
