  • Props to all the bellmen of that era. That would have been considered a "great" job back in those days. A few of my uncles were bellmen and sent all of their children to college. They were decent respectable men.

  • Club Casino guy is so handsome

  • Was that Obama @1:01??

  • kinda makes you wonder if he would be dancing as a bellman if the country wasn't so ignorant(racist) at the time. Nevertheless, very talented!

  • He was a genius.

  • Besides being talented, he was a hottie!

  • Bojangles

    Mister Bo Jangles

when this clip was made, Slavery was a living memory. JimCrow Law obtained in most of the country. Mister Robinson gently, oh so gently made them look at him and see a MAN. He and his ilk, were the pioneers that led to the situation today, where the Preservation Hall Jazz Band performed on the Grand Ol' Opry stage, where Oprah Winphry is OPRAH; Country stars are doing Rap, a Black guy is President....honor his memory you midgets. He did great things.

  • Calling him names only shows the negative energy in your heart and mind, as well as your ignorance. If your filled with hate, negative emotions, and ignorance I feel sorry for you, please keep that inside your self. Do not feel free to share!!

  • This man had more talent in one toe than most dancers today (white or black).

  • I love this and thought besides being a great dancer/singer/showstopping man he was very handsome and then I was looking at the dancing and seeing the evolution to the hop hop stuff. Yes it is there. Thank you MR. Robinson!

  • This is severely cut. Bill Robinson's opening song was much longer. Note the jump cuts.

  • he probably got ten cents for that routine. But he also inspired so many imagine being black during that time and seeing him on a screen. I hope his family got the rights to his stuff. I highly doubt it though

  • @djataras although ten cents was still not much because of his race...think of the times..its nearing or during recession times and plus ten cents was quite a bit back then...i mean gallons of gas used to cost ten cents..so putting it in perspective makes it sound less worse than it is...however it still was a smaller amount than white performers..

  • His dancing ability is awesome!

  • All this Mr. Sesitivity bullshit about something that is was and always will be beyond your ability to understand let alone comprehend. EVERYTHING was different then stop being the advocate of something that died years ago and start looking at tomorrow .

  • he was a bill bojangles was one if not the best intertainers ever its so sad that people were so damb racist back then

  • every ones favarite "Nagger"....welcome to the 30s!.....

i love it tho im no racist..

  • Gota love it.........

  • @davemustainee2 What makes you more pissed off, the fact that your dick is wayy small or that we are all sitting here watching a video of a famous black man and all you can do is post a comment? I was just wondering...

  • i luv his dancing skills!

  • I think that they should make a new movie about Bo Jangles...and you know who should play Bill Robinson....that black guy Casio from City of Angels.

  • He would've been 59 or 60 when this was shot. Can you believe that?

  • I need to see this movie! I hear Bill Robinson was one of the greatest tap dancers of all time. :D

  • I LOVE how his movements are so small and subtle and yet he's so fast and gets so many taps in. great performance!

  • $20 to anyone who can photoshop a fat white girl holding a bucket of chicken in this video.

  • bill robinson resembles brother baines in malcolm x

  • You want to see "swag" type in your search bar...."Las Vegas Swags"

  • "Las Vegas Swags and Wags"

  • Man, I wish he could've danced with Astaire. Best. Tap dancers. EVER!

  • @HarunaSahra Sammy Davis Jr. is the one. Type in SammyDavis Jr. Boogie Woogie and then type in Sammy Davis at 6

  • If you wanna see a rapper with swag, type 'swag monotone' in your search bar playah!

  • a jig doin a jig :pickle

  • This video is an obvious fake. He's not even wearing FUBUs or Timberland boots.

  • sweet jig

  • Who was the most popular dancer in the Golden Age. Many say Fred Astaire who all others hold a debt of gratitude for putting tap on the map in a big way. Not so fast though. The honor may belong to BR. He was popular througout the world. He was as talented a dancer as anybody ever. Combine that with his charisma , smile. acting ability and mannerisms. Almost everybody loved him. They had a special radio program for his funeral. (milions heard it) He was the only dancer who ever got that honor.

  • I actually remember back ground settings like that In the early 1960's but how old Bill Robinson I seem to place Him around the time of Al Jolson & Al Jolson was doing shows In hay barns when Lincoln was president, even a hay barn In Jenks Oklahoma In the 1920's I was at that hay barn when I was A Kid I knew something happen there but I did Not know what. & Song Mr. Bojangles was written In 1968 about something that happen In 1965 but actually It happen around 1903

  • Now Imagine world war 2 was a small war & No One was killed then We would have the technology that came from war & It would be like the good old days & the happy days.

  • What is this "Stop the Hilton" pt 1

  • BOJANGGGGLES

  • at 1:00 fucking hilarious, looks like obama, and this video just feels so racist hahahahaha

  • Did anyone know this little historical fact?;during his lifetime Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson gave credit to a dancer named Mr.James Barton for influencing 'Bojangles' style of dancing?Evidently, Mr.Barton was an old time Clog and Jig style tap dancer!

  • To see a man dance like this at age 60 is beyond the pale. He once tapped for 1 hour before doing the same step twice. He received a high honor from the Queen of England and when climbing the steps he developed his famous step routine. It was an impromptu moment that had lasting implications. He taught it only to Eleanor Powell that can be seen on You Tube. He was one of America's most beloved characters. All looked forward to watching him dance with his amazing rhythm and flair.

  • He kinda looks like Sidney Poiteir here.

  • The great, late Bill was 60 when he performed this dance--imagine that--truly one of the most gifted tap masters!

  • If you like this search youtube for the Nicholas Brothers. You will soon learn where Michael Jackson got all his moves.

  • He was a great dancer. I love him. Wonderful. Thanks for this vid.

  • a great performance.

  • BOJANGLES DANCE!

  • jorgemessiah & alexintampa:

papers please--time to deport your axxes.

  • I've been searching for an exact replica of this costume for decades for my own "Bojangles" routines.

  • Bojangles had more "swag" then any of these rappers today that overuse the word. This performance was sick haha...

  • he was 60 here.

I see where Eleanor Powell got some of her moves.

  • @wattever333 was he really 60?

  • @wattever333 When Ellie danced with BR before she tapped he helped her with her moves. Both Ellie and Bill danced with their lower body with little upper body movement. Bill Robinson was truly a gifted dancer making a whooping $3000 weekly that he promptly gave or gambled away. He holds the world record for running backward. He could beat most people running backward then when they ran forward. And that smile! You had to happy just watching it. 1million listened to his funeral on the radio.

  • @hajune very interesting.. thanks for posting this info..

  • @micktheMaag You are welcome. From time to time I will post more about the great "Bojangles". They could make a movie about his life. It was an interesting one.

  • Genius!

  • why are people bringing race into this? baryshnikov, fred astaire, gene kelly, michael jackson, sammy davis jur, gregory hines, james brown... they are all amazing dancers with different styles, but they all are dancers

  • Come on SugerHill, don't be god damn stupid. As a white man, I love Bojangles easy and natural style, I thought he was the best, but from the same era, I also like Fred Astaire who had a slightly different style. I love to see both guys dance. Just enjoy. No, I can't dance worth a shit. Thats what my Ex told me.

  • Natural talent!

  • Bill "Bojangles" Robinson: Millionaire, Actor, Businessman and Entrepreneur.

    jorgemessiah: Dropout burger flippin' loser

  • it's a safe bet that all of you racist haters posting on here are are a bunch of stiff ass white boys who can't dance and are intimidated by black male elegance of movement just like yo fat ass dope fiend leader, Rush! You're probably scared to death that some rapper, jazz musician, fighter pilot, NBA or NFL superstar will bang yo sister, wife or mama! Don't worry, because any gal that hooked up with yahall are probably skanks!

  • know this, you have linked into one of my playlist and i truly do not know the communique you and sugarhill shared. all i know is, thank you for feeling bold enough to enjoy a bit of history. dancing is wonderful,,,,,martin

  • @furtherdefinitions are you talking about the band who sings rappers delight?

FUCK YOU CAUSE I LOVE THEM!!!!!!

  • hi, thank you for responding to one of my playlists. don't know who you're responding to because i read that persons post too. all i can say is that i hope one of my playlist invoked a bit of discourse. good/bad,,, JUST DANCE!

  • why are people getting so hung up on "black v white"? He was one hell of a dancer and that's all that needs to be said, .

I don't think it's a racial characteristic. I've seen clumsy black men, and fat and ugly and graceless black men.

All that proves is that some people have natural talent, grace and elegance, and some don't, and the skin colour don't come into it.

*s* I'll probably get flamed from both sides for this opinion! .

  • @franl155 No! You're RIGHT! There are white men who can dance, black men who can dance, Asian men who can dance...there are men who can dance from every culture and men from every culture who can't (and in some cases REALLY shouldnt) dance.

And you know what? Theres women who can and can't dance too!

    -Andi

  • @TheViewFromSugarHill You are a racist.

  • i bet the nogs in his neighborhood stole those brass buttons and epaulettes.

  • sad thought,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, not giving credibility to the THEATER. IT'S ALL A show..... who knows where artist go? remember, you're commenting on a fact within history, wish i could make such statement for future generation to view. i do thank you commenting about one of my playlists. weird comment, yet, hope you check out some of my other playlists.

  • thats really copasetic xD

  • titties love this video.

  • His name is Toby

  • dude its a movie!

  • Congo was a pretty good movie

  • lol @ the losers actually talking about the movie

  • a jig doing a jig :pickle

  • Great Mr. Bojangles! :-)

  • PS, Pharaohll, if you want to be respected, you should be respectful. The President, Dr. Ben Carson, and many others did not get where they are by using profanity and degrading people. I say this only to help you, not to rile you or to make you feel that I see you in an inferior light. Indeed, I do not!

  • check out my vid of "Paulo Nutini new release pencil full of lead with Al Minns and Leon James dancing"

  • Love this entire movie, but I do find it sad that Bill Robinson is always seen in a ST movie as a doorman or plantation or farm worker. He was an AMAZING talent and one gets the feeling that we never got to see the real scope of it unfortunately. He was AMAZING and Shirley loved him for it. She never saw nor understood the whole color thing until later; to her, he was her "Uncle" (and not in an Uncle Tom sort of way). They cut their dances together from prints in the South btw :(

  • @calamtykel I take it you've never seen "Stormy Weather" where he was the main character along with Lena Horne.

  • Actually, Mr. Robinson correographed all the dancing whenever you see him. He was a very intelligent man and was a beloved entertainer.

Equally important is the fact that "white" men also played nearly any of the roles that he did (i.e. butlers, hands, and bellboys). Many movies back then had British butlers but you don't see them complaining.

  • So how is that different than anyone being an actor, an athlete, or anything else in entertainment? I would say that's a fair comment if you would extend it to all people in such industries: "Dance monkeys, play sports monkeys, sing monkeys, act monkeys!"

I am not a fan, generally, of such popular amusements as these things, but I will not be so generous as to call them "under control".

By the way, "Was that supposed (remember the "d") to be an intelligent response? (please use punctuation)."

  • your problem is your to worried about the punctuations and sentence layouts then to see how black people are controlled by whites!!! the sports the black people THEY DONT HAVE CONTROL OF THEY RE LIVES they have too look or dress appropriate and go to certain areas at a timely manner or they will be punished. NOW IT DOESNT SEEM AS HARSH AS CRACKING THE WHIP but these people like BO JANGLES are not FREE!!! imagine what would have happen if BOJANGLES KISSED A WHITE WOMAN ON STAGE LMAO! simple fuck

  • We shouldn't speculate how Mr. Bojangles felt about his blackness or being an entertainer.

As for the dress code, doesn't every business have a dress code and schedules to keep? Rules apply for all so-called races.

What do you think they should look and act like?

My father is African and I have had black Americans tell me that Africans are fire-dancers that go barefoot and naked and are therefore intellectually inferior to them. Should I assume all black Americans are racist? No, I won't.

  • You racist son of a bitch go fuck yourself you piss licker!! (btw i am 12) I bet you that you are racist and think that blak people are only made to be your slaves.......FUCK YOUR MOTHER HO!
