Wow, the worst 38 seconds in Haitian history. What a nightmare! You could clearly see that the people were in shock, mostly in awe in the face of the biggest earthquake ever witness in Haiti. Unfortunately we weren't prepared for that kind of catastrophe. So many lives were lost, too many. Despite everything, let's not forget that: "L'union fait la force", although those souls are lost forever, Haiti remain, Let's rebuild it for the sake of our future generation.
Before the quake when they asked Preval to fix common problems of Haiti, he replied " Nage pou ou soti." When they requested him to lower the rice price, he replied," Se mim prix ya mwen achte li tankou tout moun". To answer to your point of view, either Perval nor Haitian Government can not rebuild the country with its historical landmarks. The past words of Preval proof that he is irresponsible and mediocre. I was wondering why does he accept to represent haitian people as a President?
Preval like many politicians in Haiti are opportunists. In most cases they are from the lower class. Indeed the problems & misfortunes of Haiti can be traced since slavery but in most cases there always a resentment of the black majority against the mulato elite. Take a trip back into our past, Christophe was the only leader who believed in the economic empowerment & competition of Haiti. He built schools, kept the plantations going & built forts to protect Haiti. He was hated by the mulatoes.
Nowadays, the mulatoes educated class left Haiti decades ago, I do not think they had perspective to comeback to paticipate in the reconstruction of the country. The little uneducated and oportunist mulatoes group(calling gros soulier, grand majeur), who are stayed in Hati, are far to be a positif asset for this reconstruction. I do believe, without any prejudice on international haitian students who could be an advance support for the future of this Iland.
Preval isn't a politician, he is an agronomist. Aristide wasn't a politician, he was a priest. Duvalier wasn't a politician, he was a 17 year boy who was made president for life. Duvalier father was a doctor. Magloire was a general. Not to forget the many generals in between who gave coup d'etats. Haiti is a country where most idiots, imbeciles, ignorants, hungry, angry bastards want & believe that he can & should be president but can they really run a country of 9 million people like Haiti????
No country on earth starts perfectly. Every country starts with trials & errors. As Clinton keeps on stating "this is the time for Haiti" and I truly believe Clinton realizes that the US has done Haiti wrong and yes I believe he can be one of the people who can make a difference in the new Haiti.I am landing my contribution by opening a resort in Haiti which will create jobs & hopefully can multiply into other businesses that can create more jobs in Haiti. We Haitians need to come together.
Dessalines from my view was a revolutionary not a politician. Indeed he was a great general but he was more consumed with destructions then rebuildint the country or even acknowledging & accepting the mulatoes & the French Haitians who were willing to be part of the new Haiti. Petion & Boyer who were mulotoes believed it was more appropriate for their class to be the ruling class. The ladder lead to the Haitian civil wars & subsequently to the US invasion.
Petion's policy was notoriously called " Laissez faire", as a mulatoe educated in France he was too weak; considered as shameful leader to be imitated, I was wondering if he was realy graduated there(in France) and what was his major . History shown that he failed in all administration policies. Only thing he did positively, he maintained the peace between South and the nothern part and also he protected his mulatoes class against further black upheavals.
Let's not judge the past, it will not get us nowhere. As a proud Capois, Petion is not considered a hero for us. We should learn from our past. It is about time that we Haitians let our heroes rest in peace. We should honor and thank them for their contributions for our freedom. We should not try to blame nor should we try to react the past. Let's live in the present. Besides after 200 years we are no longer blacks & mulatoes anymore, WE ARE HAITIANS!
Look my friend stop before it's too late. My grandfather was a senator under Duvalier. The 5 gourdes for 1 US dollard was part of the US deal between Haiti & the US. Michelle Bennet used to work in the same company with my uncle. We know them very well. They currently live in Grasse in Provence France. Let it go he was a dictator he knows it very well. Aristide wasn't that bad, his rethoric was the problem. Both Duvaliers were dictators supported by the US. Let it go. It's in the past.
Boyer who was smater and had greater vision than Petion might be a part of the running class. As a General,The fact that he occupied DR for 24 years, and unified the Island is a proof his leadership . Because of his prejudice to accept black educated in his administration, he lost the eastern part of the Iland. At this period even Haiti was unified, but divided between social class. To conclude, in all sens History showed that mulatoes without status quo, failed to lead the country accordingly
With the US occupation came once again the mulatoes in power. Yes the 90 million gold coins paid to France by Haiti over 100 years took its toll on the country's ability to modernize itself. The division or the ill-relationship between the black mass & the small ruling educated elite has been the greatest burden for Haiti. With both Duvaliers came the educated blacks who distanced & even killed many of the mulato elite. Papa Doc used the color card to maintain absolute power.
Under Baby Doc the class relations improved since like many Black Haitian politicians, he felt it's his right to marry a mulato which they so love to hate including Aristide. Most Haitians won't vote for a mulato since many have a complex of inferiority. They truly believe that only someone who comes from their environments can understand them and will bring them out of poverty. Remember the famous quote of Duvalier "La reconnaissance est une lachete". These polititians are in for themselves.
Despite of his weakness, Baby doc was a powerful leader. He maintained and unify the social class of the Island. He stabilized the currency 5 gourdes for 1US dollar; he built up Schools, Uiversities, Industries in cluding Park Industriel, Stadiums et so fourth. His senate and administrative group was mixed with blacks, mulatoes at others. His ministers were educated. His 11 years were crowned with success, Haiti was in peace and stabilized until this monster Aristid came, turned every thing over.
