  • Why does an add have to pop up right when the lightning strikes?

  • @so7lo8

if you watch it carefully you can see it comes from the ground

  • very thrilling

  • wow that is very slow...

  • simply amazinf

  • fucking popup ad

  • so what we see as purple-blue kinde thing is actually red-pink???

  • That's probably the worst placed ad ever.

  • Thumbs up if you had to close the ad to se the lightning

  • @Maximum150 stfu thats so pathetic to try to get thumbs up..especially from that gayass comment

  • @Maximum150 rofl thats the worst attempt at being a thumb whore ive ever come across

  • @got2strpk How do you not see what im talking about? The impact of the lightning is clearly blocked by that ad!

  • @Maximum150 Yes....Yes it is. But the horrible truth is you are a desperate lonely 12 year old who seeks confidence through Thumbs Up on Youtube. What you need to do is call 911 if your daddy wont stop touching you. The answer is definately not stating the obvious on a video and asking for Thumbs Up's for it.

  • @got2strpk Actually i'm a not very desperate 16 year old who couldn't care less about internet popularity(if that even exists) and was just trying to see how many other people noticed the same thing by saying what I did.

  • Lightning comes from the ground, the electrons in the clouds rubbing together are sent to the ground because of the negative charge pushing it away, much like 2 magnets on the same side push eachother away. When the electron hits the ground it can make a spark that is pushed away and forms a streak of light. Lightning technically does come from the sky, the light starts at the ground though.

  • @baconbag I think they actually meet somewhere in the middle, if that makes any sense. Sorta like coming from cloud and ground at the same time.

  • for those who think this is too dark, high fps cameras require a TON of light to show things this slow. in a thunderstorm dont expect to see a lot of sunlight.

  • 29,462,400,000 fps camera rate should be sufficient to watch a beam of light smothely approach you =)

  • @xzanhorinth1 i thought we needed 29,462,400,125 fps camera for that.

  • Hahaha. I read the comments about ads. If anyone uses Google Chrome, go to the applications, and search ad blocker. Best app ever.

  • @JackD124 where do i find the applications

  • @ninjasam555 Web Store. Should be right above the Most Visited.

  • /watch?v=hgblSYQh9ho

  • so if lightning comes from the ground, what happens when a person gets "struck" by lightning

  • @garrett200000

The lightning bolt is initiated by the positive(ground) and the negative(clouds). The initial upwards discharge is not the bolt, but the 'leader'. The 'bolt' which is made up of many "strokes" of lightning(generally 3-4) then follows down the path of least resistance back down to the ground in order to equalize the electronic field in between the ground and the clouds.

The downward bit is the part that kills you.

  • Fucking ad

  • not so fast now huh?

  • nothing can beat the speed of light :) except the speed of bruce lee's punch

  • @BloodyRSVids or Chuck Norris

  • The Ad Poped Up Right When The Lightning Struck And I Had To Rewind.

  • I wonder if you film a flashlight turning on in 1m FPS you would see the light traveling from the source to a boundary....

  • @donttazemebro3434

Of course not.. u cant see the light until it gets into your eye or in the camera

  • Even the ad came up in slow mo.

  • This is a lightning bolt going from clouds to earth. Right? Actually it is!

  • This is a lightning bolt going from clouds to earth. Right?

  • hold shift and u can see it happening in really slow motion

  • ad popped up just as the lightning hit.

  • FILM THE SPEED OF LIGHT!

  • Comment removed

  • jeeze, 10,000fps

  • A lightning bolt can be as hot as 30,000C which is 5 times hotter than the surface of the sun...O.o

  • @Halo2loverboy but inside the sun its 5m degrees c

  • @Dragonicafan Yeah, but still that's pretty impressive :P...It travels at over 270,000mph and 75 miles/second. If there wasn't friction it would travel at the speed of light. But, without friction there is no lightning xD.

  • F*ck you! I was watching all kinds of videos about lightning and this popped up, so I decided to check it out.... 32 seconds of my life WASTED!

  • even at 10k you still dont see the actual traveling of the bolt. Its just like in the ground already.

  • Fuck me thats slow

  • @900duncans Go read a book then

  • @ultraslo when will you have your 1 mill cam?

  • @insertgamertaghere Still working on a sponsor deal. They work like high speed glaciers some times. Soon I hope.

  • @ultraslo haha

    you tell em'!

  • @ultraslo 32 best seconds spent.

Explaining what is going on here took more than 10 minutes to my Physics teacher.

I never saw it before like this.

It's interesting as it shows that most lightning go from ground to clouds.

  • @ultraslo READ A BOOK READ A BOOK READ A MOTHERFUCKING BOOK!!!

  • @TheAlceaos Are shouting at me???

  • @ultraslo You obviously did not get the reference there.

  • @900duncans time's only wasted when you do nothing with it. you decide if you get anything out of anything.

  • funny how ordinary bits of life can be so interesting to watch eh?

  • @staikotatos Yep, (unlike others) I could watch this kind of things for hours.

Macro photography (insects and such) is also a very interesting thing to see!

  • looks laggy

  • This is not 10,000 FPS.. its more like 1,000 FPS and just slowed down. waste of 30 seconds.

  • It looks like the lightning starts from the ground and shoots UP into the heavens at 0:08. Blink, and you'll miss it.

  • Still not everything, we need a 100,000 FPS camera.

  • @SonarWavePulse our next camera will do 1 million FPS

  • @ultraslo

Kidding? 1 million seems unthinkably fast...

  • @SonarWavePulse For real that is what the camera can do. I am not sure that I can afford the bill for the lights to go with it. ;)

    Enjoy

  • cool, lightning really does come from the ground. i though my teacher was drinking before school or something

  • @baconbag If you look closely at the beginning of the video, you can see... what I could only describe atm (tired) as energy in the exact arc of the lightning that comes later, and goes toward the ground. It is hard to see. If you full-screen and pay attention, you can see it better.

  • @baconbag If you say "Lightning comes from the ground", this is wrong. Some of them (1/4 but I'm not sure) come from the sky.

  • @baconbag lighting comes both from ground and from sky, depends on impuls.

  • @baconbag You're obviously not doing well in science, then.

  • @rljake2 Actually, I graduated in '08 and never thought about it again lol

  • @baconbag some lightning not all

  • @baconbag Fail

  • @baconbag

    Not always.

  • That looked dope.

  • looks like 10,000 FPS isnt fast enough haha

  • @MrWalton13 take in mind it's a lighting; therefore, it's nearly impossible to record something that goes at light speed

  • @Alexbeatlejuice It's a common misconception that lightning moves at light speed.

The light from the lightning moves at light speed , but the bolt itself moves considerably slower through the air with the perceived speed for the human eye of about 3700mps. Not a difference when trying to film it , but important non the less.

  • Why the hell do you have to put your stupid ads a split second before the lightning strike? If you don't want me to see your video, just say so. Shit!

  • @RevJim60 ulaslow isn't responsible for ads, but Google. And Google earns money from it.

You can try Adblock for Firefox if you don't want to see them anymore!

  • @mathieuemi666 The reality is that we do get a small part of the income from adds. It is the only way we can produce all the FREE content for you to watch. We are redesigning our own site to better accommodate some of our fans. Most content will be available there free with adds. There will also be a subscription section that will have some extra clips all ADD FREE but it will cost something. Just building the site will cost several thousand and the video content delivery is expensive too. Enjoy

  • @mathieuemi666 This will probably be deleted by Google I presume, but what you get from ads is ridiculous compared to what Google earns on these.

A lot of people have also had bad experiences with the company, just before reaching the $100 limit...

  • @mathieuemi666 No they have been pretty good for the most part.

  • 300 000 km/s

  • @LukaZupanovic actualy lightning is 60km/s light is 300 000km/s

  • wow that lightning is fast

  • @4stones I think we all know that your 12 now, 3 posts should sum it up.

  • what camera does it take to do this?

  • @4stones don't take whatever this bastard tells you seriously. He's probably a (fat) nerd who can't get laid for his life, so he decides to take it out on you; the good part of the YouTube community. You didn't do anything wrong.

  • you know what, i bet i know more than both of you. but i can't say that because it may or may not be true. so you to shut up and move on with your lives. for people who reallly don't like me, you sure do pay attention to my comments and errors. and who says i wasn't being sarcastic?

  • How slow was that?

  • @SubscribeComment 10,000 frames per second

  • beautiful. I cant believe that one surge that stayed longer sent out other miniature surges to find a connection.(though I may be wrong..)

    .... O.o I can't believe that I know this and I'm 12..

  • big woop fuckface its pretty much common sence

  • @blackstalion48 sorry i upset people about this then, i wont do it again..

  • @4stones a 12 year old dumbass should know that

  • @killmanha fuck you get a life leave him alone he's 12 years old you shouldn't be picking on him like this

  • im 12 years old too lol

  • woaw great ! what's your camera?

  • We use Phantom cameras from Vision Research, they are the best.

  • @ultraslo And...I think you payied quite some money on that camera...how much?(sorry for any mistakes)

  • kool

  • That's interesting. Looks like the lightning hits the ground thin, then it gets wider from the ground and up to the sky. I wonder why. I'll send this to my physics teacher.

  • look up "step leader"

  • Oh wow, thanks. I looked it up on wikipedia. Now I understand. "return stroke" :D

  • На видео видно что молния исходит из земли...

  • @TimofeiPugachev Я не думаю, что он вышел из земли. Видео пошел слишком быстро.

  • i saw a camera that can shot 1,400,000 fps !!!!!!

  • a could breath would take up to 30 minutes!

  • yeah the phantom v710.... but in 12:8 pixels, ridiculous XD btw, does anyone know the price of the v710 or the v310 ?

  • sometimes it comes from the ground, and soumetimes the cloud, its always different

  • Actually, several feeders come from the ground, one of which is met by a large bolt from the clouds. Only one of the feeders turns into a blot of ligtning.

  • Good explanation. =)

  • it DOES go from tha ground up.....i KNEW it

  • wait this might be a stupid question but does lightning actually come from the ground? it looks like a small charge goes down and the lightning goes back up into the clouds then comes back down with full force.

  • hmm it does look that way...

  • Discovery Channel did a special on lightning. They had slo-mo shots that were much better than this.

  • well excuse me princess

  • Even ultraslo themselves had a higher quality lightning video than this. idk why at 10,000 fps it looks faster than at 2000.

  • Your comparing this to Discovery Channel ?

That like comparing a Nissan 97 to a Ferrari 09

Slo-mo Cams cost a shit load...

  • that is so cool. i love this channel

  • thats was instantaneous for slo-mo!! :O

  • i always thought lightning came from the clouds... coooooool thats good to know im now learning electricity and it'll be a gr8 asset... i hav an irish accent stuck in my head!

  • You should flash a light at the camera and make it go ultra super slow and see if you can see the traveling light....that wouldn't work.

  • it would have to be like a billion frames per second

  • it looks like it came from the ground

  • yeah, thats how lightning happens. it comes from the ground up and meets the energy from the clouds.

  • not always, it could be from sky to ground, or ground to sky, or in clouds.

  • fantasti video. great job!!

  • yeah because they planned where the lightning was going to strike....

  • didnt know there was such a thing as a camera capable of recording anything but a flash of lightning. nice work

  • it can start from the clouds too though

  • so people arent struck by lightning, lightning is struck by people :P

  • didnt know that lightning started from the ground hmmmm interesting

  • wow i never seen before that. Think you is because the electrons movement? (from negative to positve)

  • yes it is, ive been learning about it the ground becaomes negatively charged and the electrons positive so they jump from the sky to the ground, thats how to hindenburg disaster happened because of the static electricity build up jumping from the outside of the balloon to the refulling post causing a hole and a spark igniting it

  • but not jump from the sky to the ground, jump from the ground to the sky!

  • um no, lighting comes from the ground

  • I hope you were not serious.

  • how is that possible?

  • @ANGELO13111 what do u mean?

  • how does lightning come from the ground?

  • that's how lightning works, a 'stepped leader' comes down and then the main charge jumps up. if i remember right.

  • hahahha

  • ok, it can come from either the cloud or the ground, when there's a storm, the storm cloud becomes statically charged from friction, the bottom of the cloud is negatively charged and the top is positive, the ground has a neutral charge,

  • but the ground underneath the cloud becomes the opposite charge of the bottom of the cloud so the charges will come together and make lightning (opposite charges attract) but before they can connect, the air between the cloud and the ground get charged particles that connect and make a random line forming the path of the lightning,

  • these are called step leaders which go from the cloud to ground, and called streamers when it goes from the ground to the cloud, so when the electricity discharges, it can come from the ground too.

  • so it goes both ways right? thanks for explaining.

  • yes, your welcome :)

  • electrons are negatively charged, and that's one of the theories on how hindenburg blew up.

  • i don't get it. why is it coming from the ground?

  • it's like a shock. the forces meet each other in the middle.

  • dang, crazy. must wikipedia 'lightning'. thanks for the info.

  • where dd you find that out?

  • Pretty awesome!

  • Fantastic Lightning slow motion 5\5

  • nice title. sweet video though!

  • oooops

  • Very nice, really shows off the way lightning works.(ground to sky)

  • From the ground up?

  • silly

  • pretty cool. Glad you guys are back :3

  • I had a joint replaced in my hand so I have not been able to shoot. It is healing well and I am starting again slowly. We are working on funding to upgrade to HD 3D high speed cameras for our web site and a BlueRay 3D film.

More soon and thanks for your interest

  • Nice

  • nice

  • Haha! After the big one, a tiny one comes.

  • why do i feel like you reuse the same clips over and over again?

  • We are getting ready to start production again. this clip was requested for a school program. There will be a lot of new shoots soon. We will be taking new idea submissions too.

    Thanks.

  • Lightning3new.avi

  • It was a new render to show the detail

  • first view =D looks nice

  • awesome !

  • That's sexy.
