  • HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOO

  • HELL NO!

    LOVE IT!

  • I said "Hell NO".

  • It's funny how Oprah in this clip looks 30 years younger than how she looked playing Sofia 25 years ago at age 30 haha. Millions of dollars in stylists, makeup artists, and personal trainers can do a world of difference...it's good to be Oprah :)

  • @julesreverie LOL I know so do a lot of people. Like Barbara from the view!

  • i just got chills

  • amazing voices

  • Her hair has grown over night.

  • i love that ladys singing voice very bluesy

  • Just LOVE the part where they go "Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh................meeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnn"! Lol.

  • This song is so powerful

  • hell no!!!!

  • DONT FORGET OPRAH HAS A RIGHT TO SAY THAT LINE BECUZ SHE PLAYED SOFIA IN THE MOVIE THE COLOR PURPLE

  • dont forget oprah has a right to say that she was in the movie the color purole and was sofia in the movie

  • girl child aint safe in a family of mens, iluv that line.

  • this is lynette dupree...i was privledged to work with her on the national tour..remarkable talent...

  • I never got the opportunity to see the play...although I wanted to....I hope they do like "CATS" and bring it out on DVD ....I'd love to see it..

  • @MyLifesPromise Hopefully Wicked the Musical also! :)

  • I was so dissapointed I wasn't cast as Sofia even after being flown to NYC as a finalist for selection... I still want to go out and support the cast because there were some AMAZING women in the room when I went to NY. A part of me is still honored to have made it that far and I love this performance it is simply flawless. Ck my videos and let me know if you think I'd be a good Sofia... thanks for your support!

  • This song is fantastic!

  • i just saw the show saturday in orlano!!! it waz great!!!

  • haha uh noooo. maybe where you are from. lol but not from in the US

  • Spelled / spelt

    color / colour

    USA v UK

  • @ThankYouAndHello

Actually, spelt is not a word. Regardless of the country.

  • You are mistaken.

The word is an oddity within common usage but it is still a word.

  • don't forget:

    grey / gray

    :D

  • I saw this in houston yesterday. It was amazing! I am watching the movie on BET right now!

  • yeah. I saw it in houston sat. too. it was great.

  • I wish they had found a way to showcase LaChanze more in the Tony performance. She was absolutely spectacular as Celie and definitely earned her Best Actress Tony. A brilliant actress, singer, and lovely human being (my friends and I got to meet her afterwards).

  • I saw this musical when it came on tour last night! IT WAS A-MA-ZING!! I cried sooooo much! And then a second later I would laugh sooooo hard!!! This musical is like none I've ever seen. AMEN.

  • Im so glad to find this clip, I plan to audition for the role of Sofia soon and this gives me a better look at her character in the musical. Let me know if you think I have what it takes, check out my page and my performance in the 2006 Midwest Production of Dreamgirls where I was EFFIE WHITE. Thanks again for sharing!

  • this will stay wit u lol "hell no" lol

  • Look at Oprah! Bein' all Oprah an' isht!

  • Kathy Griffin haha

  • I saw it on Broadway with this Celie and when Fantasia was Celie as well. I can't wait until this summer because they're coming to DC with Fantasia, I'm definitely going to see that

  • I saw it last night, The best thing i've seen in a long time, you will love it!

  • I actually got to see this on Broadway with Fantasia as Celie and it was amazing....And this was my favorite part too i even got the t-shirt that says Hell No!

  • I just saw the performance in Memphis....I loved it!!!!

  • OMG!! I saw it last night too and I loved it as well. My favorite scene has got to be the scene where Harpo picked up Sofia and they were singing "What Can I Do For You." I totally died laughing on that one!!

  • Yeah that was great. I would love to see it again

  • Oprah said that ligne amazingly she still got it and she should star in a movie or something

  • Your right, she should have, like, her own show!

  • The national tour came to Oklahoma City, and it is quite possibly the best live musical I have seen.

  • i saw it too in Chicago and Michelle Williams killed it

  • i saw the chicago performance on opening night

  • YES SHE DID! And I was so shocked. I was all ready to dog poor Michelle because I had already seen the Broadway production... Man was I surprised, not only was she good, but she found her own voice in the piece and made me forget that she was a "pop" artist. I have a new found respect for her and her skills. Good job Ms. Williams.

  • I PRAY THIS COMES OUT ON DVD!!! BEST MOVIE EVER!!! and WONDERFUL MUSICAL PLAY!!!

  • I dont think this was a good selection to showcase the musical.

  • I think your wrong. (It's your opinion you're entitled to it.) I think it is perfect because that line and that scene (let nobody beat me) in the movie is probably the best known. I know countless of times Madea/Tyler has used that line, so many people will know it.

  • One of my prayers have been answered. The musical is doing a national tour and will be coming to Boston in June 2009!!! Now let's hope it comes out on DVD 2.

  • I pray to God that Oprah decides to put the Color Purple Musical on DVD because everybody would buy that. Especially me because everybody is not able to financially able to travel to see concerts or musicals. I hope they come to Boston to perform there musical I really want to see this musical. Love you Oprah and your endeavers. Please consider putting the Color Purple musical on DVD soon. I'll be one of the first people to buy it:-)

  • i saw the show in ny... it is amazing as advertised

  • I went to see The Color Purple Oct. 5th in Dallas, Tx. It was my first stage play and I was stunned. We had great seats (Section E-Orch Row H Seat 4 and Seat 5). The orchestra, the view, the props, the makeup, the characters, the story line which followed the book and movie but had its own flavor, the singing and dancing were AWESOME! I would recommend this play with the SAME cast to any and everybody because they did an outstanding job. I do agree that the locality is not ideal for the play.

  • I have seen the play 3 times. I believe the best was in Chicago. I saw it in New York City on Broadway, Chicago and in Dallas. I think no one really played Shug Avery good I guess I am just use to the movie. It does not matter once you are a color purple fan it is hard to go back.

  • I went to see "The Color Purple" yesterday at the Texas State Fair in Dallas, Tx and the play was fair. I loved the book and believe I prefer the movie with dialogue instead of the singing. I was sad because our seats were not in the first row so the stage was too far away. The venue location not ideal for plays. :(

  • OPRAH RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @missuniworld

Damn strait, Tyra in a million years could attain be an ounce of her genius and brilliance, there's only one Oprah

  • @missuniworld

    *could never

  • I hope that if you guys get a chance to have this play come to your town...run to see it. IT WAS THE BEST MONEY I HAVE SPENT IN A LONG TIME.

  • I 10000000% agree. It was unbelievable!!!

  • I AGREEEEE!!! It was just breath taking!!!

  • Oprah looks great.

  • i love that high note of "HELLL NO" AND U DAMN STRAIGHT HELL NO

  • You gotta say, you need to say, you better say you oughta say. HEEEeEEEeEEeEEEEELL... NO! i love this song!

  • Helllll no!....I saw them in Philly @ the Academy of music. One of the best songs!

  • Are you two racist? I hate that more than you two hate Oprah! I am 100% white (German/Irish background) and I still can not stand it when people are racist. I'm not trying to be offensive, I am just asking a simple question.

  • Academy of Music in Philly! I will be there!

  • I was hoping that the play would have came to Houston but it didn't for what I know... *tear

  • i saw it last nite in Baltimore.....and i luved it

  • OMG,

I just saw it today, I loved it.

  • i love this musical it was bomb!! my school took us a month ago when it was in LA

i have to say it was the best thing i ever saw

  • I see Tasia still has Haters lol, this clip isn't even about her but people still bringing her name up. That just proves how BIG she is, it's when they stop talking about you that you have to worry.

  • you right!!!!

  • i agree!

  • Nice clip,

  • The woman playing Celie is beautiful! Celie is supposed to be unattractive, lol!

  • I'm sorry to hear that the play is closing on February 24.

  • I saw this with Fantasia on Bway. No offense to Fantasia fans, but she was TERRIBLE. LaChanze performed circles around her.

  • first - saying no offense doesnt take away the offense second - she was definatly not 'TERRIBLE' . i saw it with her twice she brought me to tears each show and at her performance on the tony's and i bet lachanze was amazing too but you gotta give fantasia credit never having voice lessons, correct ? and her life before american idol wasn't too great . so that was a huge thing for her and you should be a little more respectful for her .
  • that was a reply to starletdawn, btw. the reply button didnt work .

  • First of all, I respect your opinion. Secondly, I didn't say I don't have respect for her. Personally, I thought she was terrible. But I've never particularly cared for her voice, even on "American Idol." And I think she's done incredibly well for herself and I commend her for making a better life ofr herself and her daughter. I just think her voice is annoying. And I could hardly hear her when she spoke. She seemed to relying a lot on her mike to do the work for her. ::shrug:: That's all.

  • Obviously, you're probably one of a select few who thought she was terrible. And if you have respect for someone, there are better adjectives for the word terrible.Have you heard of the word tact?

  • could you imagine her at read through?

  • What do you mean by that?

  • im sorry,,,,one of my friends got on my account and started posting comments to get me

  • i just saw the tour of this show and it was absolutely amazing. I think the same actress played sofia, she was great

  • Everything about Broadway is so . . . . . Magical!

  • The Color Purple is coming to Detroit in May, I have Tickets........I can't wait!!

  • You fail. May your life be filled with hardship and woe. If there is a hell, you need to go to it.

  • I love the color purple! I loved the movie, the book, and this scene from the play. Oprah played a wonderful Sophia in the movie!

  • 2007...2007??? Still the word Nigger lives?? May God have mercy on your soul for putting that word online!

  • I saw this play in SF on Halloween and it was amazing!

  • i just saw this in san francisco. this show is inspriationaly beautiful. i was crying when i saw this

  • i did too. it was amazing. <3

  • omgggggggggggg u guys i seen it on broadway at radio city with fantasia it was so friggin gud omg she is a wonderful women it made me cry 2 go see it iam seeing it again oo yea 4 the 3rd time u kno go see it guys its great....n might i add i hate plays!!!!

  • I saw it in San Francisco!! i loved sofia's character. The lady was HILARIOUS!! She's rigth!! Hell NO!!

  • I saw it for my birthday two days ago...She was SO funny! And amazing. And funny!

  • I know!! Everyone LOVED her character!! She was the one who got all the applause!!

  • Same! They did it around the "everyone on bway should collect money for the needy" time, so when she came on and asked for money, everyone gave....Mostly 'cause she threatened us, but also 'cause she was the favorite. :]

  • I got to see this in San Fransisco! It's awesome!

  • in the touring production there is no white people in the cast... but on this video there is one white lady... who does she play? Or is she light skinned and only looks white?!?

  • If I correct, that's the actress who played squeak. there are no white people in the play.

  • i wanna see this so bad.

  • dude, this is coming to LA, and i'm totally trying to convince my mom to take me....cuz she wants to see it almost as much as i do

    this is amazing, BTW

  • just saw the last show in chicago last night, and mrs. fields ( the girl who plays sofia's mother) sat right in front of me. same sofia at Tony's and in chicago.

  • I luvvvvvvvv Color Purple! It's STILL in Chicago!

  • I Care...

  • I'm waiting for it to come to TEXAS!

  • felicia is my auntie

  • THIS MY JAM!!

  • i love it

  • im seein it in chicago on thursday... im pretty pumped.. the original sofia is in chicago right now.. HELL NOOOo

  • What a wonderfull number this is. I've always wanted to see the musical version compared to the movie and I hope to find it one day on dvd. Thank you again for this wonderfull video. :)

  • I saw it with LaChanze on broadway. She was absolutely unbelievable.

  • lachanze is incredible. absolutely incredible.

  • HELL NO!!!

    that was great

I really want to see this

  • I first read TCP in junior high school and saw the movie when I was even younger. I sympathize with victims of domestic abuse. But if TCP had white protagonists and demonized white men in the way that TCP does, I highly doubt the book would have been so widely embraced and it would probably never have been made into a movie. I really liked the book and movie, but I've always been disturbed by the way it jibes with stereotypes about black men right out of "Birth of a Nation".

  • o for heaven sakes...black men act like their chit is made of gold. If memory serves me correct...Mister DID try to redeem himself in the end by helping Cilly(?) reunite with her sister.

  • And Harpo turned out to be a good man. Jee-zus...if TCP had been about white folks, blacks would be crying about how they never get to have such engaging stories written about them.

  • Perhaps the modern black man (and woman) needs to grow beyond his/her own racial insecurites and realize that not everything is a personal attack on his/her character. Cuz let's face it, some of them "stereotypes" are true. And TCP has nothing to do with "Birth of a Nation." Geezus. OH, and before I'm accused of being a racist, I am black, poor and female!

  • who cares

  • apparently you do since you took time to take your one good hand out of your underwear long enough to type that.

  • Ladies don't do that

  • I just saw this yesterday, Oprah paid for me to go! I even met her, it was amazing! WOO HOO!

  • LOL...I like that...

  • LOL ask any man you you walk in the house and see a group of women plotting you say hell no and run the other way

  • Women Power!!

    That's right -HELL NO!!!

  • omg!!!!!!!! i wanna see this sooooooo bad

  • this is awesome

  • whish we had this musical in holland

  • Hell No!!!!

i luv this fuckin song so much!!!

  • the reason they did this song is because both characters were nominated for Tony Awards and they wanted a song which incororate both characters.

  • Excellent!

  • mmmmmm HELL NO! That shit go hard!

  • shut the fuck up Oprah!

  • Fuck you Oprah's the shit!

  • Quit hating on Oprah! Oprah is truly an icon and is and will be one of the most distinguished and remberable people in today and in history! I love and am very proud of Ms Winfrey! I'm glad that I was alive to see her fulfill her destiny that God has for her.

  • OMG beautiful i really can't wait to see this and just to let people know that wasn't the whole song (Hell no)and it's one of the best songs in the play as well as one of my dream roles!

  • i really love the movie the best!

  • I'm wondering why they didn't perform I'm here...then went into the color purple...oh well

  • The Color Purple pointed out that domestic violence should be considered a problem-this song shows women they have the option to fight back.

  • I'm VERY well aware of that but i thought they should have sang a better song seeing as their at the Tony's I'm Here also has a powerful message and I'm just saying they should have sang it AND then went into Color Purple

  • this was probably a better segue' with oprah doing her intro

  • this wasn't my favorite song from the play...i thought it was a bit boring myself

  • this was a little bit boring

  • i disagree about the music. i think they captured the time period very well. it feels like you're actually in that time. i personally love the music.

  • This show has amazing performers, but the music is a huge step down from other black broadway musicals.

  • i disagree...i thinki they captured the time period with this music very well. and it actually makes the production seem more real...to me anyway

  • You probably hear Willy Lynch alot but people really don't know who he was. He was a British man who was master pimp, and masonic member. Go to Wikipedia when you get a chance and look him up and quick link to his page and see what he wanted for Black woman. He wanted independence, no identity, mental strength superior to the males, and most of all to Watch His Back from the black male. The same man who pays Oprah is the same man who pays G-Unit ultimately

  • Learn to enjoy life. :)

  • On a serious note...i sent you a message - im awaiting your response.

  • man, go **** a white woman and get off Oprah's azz. you'll feel a lot better in ther morning.

  • When you look at what Hitler did in Europe, he nationalized his country with popular opinion. Propaganda, because a ship that flows in one direction is more productive. White American nationalist play chess with agendas, Oprahs a pond, black males have been known to be sporadic and hostile when given a microphone, from Malcolm to Colin Powell, swaying what??? Popular opinion, leaving whites with an insecure identity concerning Darwins suggestion of their natural selection being human deity's.

  • Oprah is not going to do these things blatently, its all ambiguous, she has black dudes on her show, comedians, actors, athletes, Court Jestures, never opinionated, she'll lose her friends, but she has Bill O'reilly, who believes blacks are a counterculture. David Duke put it best smile at a nigger and IT'll give you a nickel. Black males are the headline of every negative cover story of this country, severely disproportional with the pop.

  • (continued) She urged her viewers to complain to congress about the deplorable conditions of the D.C. public schools, and she herself donated money. A few days later, legislation was passed to make great upgrades to D.C public schools, not just books and lesson plans,

  • How often do you hear of Oprahs father, how can harbor on the atrocities of black men and then forgive so easily the many atrocities of white men towards black woman

  • why the hell r u dissin on oprah?...she has never been against black men and ur just tripping. If anything, Oprah has tried to be a beacon of hope for black youth. And your reading her empowering of women incorrectly and turning that into being against men...thats just retarded. She's done so much for black people in America and around the world and frankly you just sound fucking ignorant cuz your just looking for something to complain about. Shut the fuck up you don't know of what you speak.

  • Wow i sound ignorant, i haven't used a curse word yet, but your f-ing cursing 2 out 4 sentences. What i have given you is the facts. OK, you may be right, I'm not scared to admit to being wrong. Give me a list of things Oprah has done for black people. young black men to help empower them, to help bridge the widening gap between young black women and young black males to strengthen the black working class and i'll tell you tube to take my comments off of this page

  • Don't get mad, argue what i said, dispute what i've said, prove that wrong, not me.

  • but simple things that can make for higher morale like working toilets and sinks, and ceilings and walls that don't have 30 yr old paint peeling off.

    O wait I didn't cuss....fuck.

  • Point taken, but let me share something I've analyzed with the way things work concerning propaganda in this country. IT ADVANCES. Nothing stays the same, from Microsoft, Medicine, Christianity, Cinemetography, Housing, so why not cultural supremacy?? When Oprah gets on her show the things whites love about her is that she has no color while having the feel of a modern day mammy, aunt jemima, what have you.

  • What race on planet Earth downs their men and as much as this woman. Before Karl Marx even spoke of the feminist movement black woman had Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X thwart campaigns to make them feel beautiful, Essence magazine itself was a magazine that was started by a black man for promotion and esteem of dark black woman and even that is used against us. White america doesn't believe in black woman they can careless about black woman they want to use them to attack us and then convert them

  • excellent show. should have won for best musical. I don't understand the negative comments here at all. looks like "gone with the wind"? is that bad? they are both set in times of american slavery... I saw this show live and wept. I'm white.

  • So because your white and you wept does that validate your opinion. Of course your going to feel sympathetic towards a battered woman, who wouldn't, the problem is that i'm a very young black man that has been raised around nothing but black woman can objectively see that Oprah loves going out into the public and trying to tell the world that black males don't have it in them to care, which is so absurd that that idea leads me to believe someone else is promoting this

  • this is hilarious, every race in america complains about black males religously for our "many atrocities across the globe" now we have our bandwagon jumping woman doing everything she can to help out, the funny thing about it black woman don't even like dark black woman, they don't even like being dark, black woman as a mass don't even want their kids dark, this is the biggest "nuremborg" media hype in our time and the biggest joke
