i hate people that scream. especially girls....im trying to put on a poker face and then those bitches just scream and make everyone unnecessarily panic
The pilot could have avoided that by flying a little higher or skirting the cloud bank surely... Ive flown that route many times on another airline and never felt a bump...
I fly a340-300. looks to me like the fd sys has cut in due to strong tail winds pushing her along, i think this because the spoilers are deployed to slow her down a little. either that or they have begun their decent into lax, looking at those cloud stacks they look too formed for cruising alttitude. wings not flexing too much though, a330 up to the 340-600 have built in latices which encourage wing flex......
plane is descending, the air brakes on to help slow it down, the fd sys does that so the plane wont overspeed, besides the wing's were not flexing too much so must have been a slow decent due to weather conditions, too choppy and it uses too much fuel...... a340-300 responds in the same way only it does not suffer buffeting like the 600.
Those towering cumulus clouds are pretty common during the summer if on approach from the east into LAX. They basically form a wall of storms over the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains and over the desert. Could've been much worse if you guys had gotten there just one hour later. If I'm flying into L.A. during the summer, I try to pick a flight that has me landed in the morning before daytime heating causes the clouds to erupt.
LeAviateur, your ignorance is showing. The aircraft was obviously descending through towering cumulus into LAX, and the pilot was using SPEEDBRAKES to expedite the descent. Get this, in flight they are called SPEEDBRAKES, on the ground they are SPOILERS. No overspeed here. No such thing as low spoiler configuration.
oh god quit your damn screaming people!!! either theres a planeload of scaredy cats or they just want to make a scene. learn to fly and you'll realize theres nothing to worry about
i had the same flight in sep 2010 it was bumpy too..not sure why it takes so much time to fly above the cloud when taking off from heathrow.. it was very bumpy and a lot of turbulences
They are in very close proximity of a Cumulunimbus, which is a thunderstorm cloud. The creation of thunderstorm clouds come from very violent air updrafts and downdrafts. The up and downdrafts can reach speed up to 6000 feet per minute. Temporary loss of control can occur, 0 gravity can be felt, but under no circumstances can an aircraft crash or loose control with this type of turbulence UNLESS very close to the ground such as a take off or landing. In this case, what we call this a microburst
I've been on that same flight route earlier this month, had some rough turbulence coming back, unfortunately had no video camera with me. Could have even been the same plane.
fuck that! im flying virgin atlantic to las vegas in september.....but i've never flown before so im very nervous! why the hell am i watching these videos?! thanks for the view of the cabin tho :)
Is that the speed brakes partially deployed on the top side of the wing? I think I undeerstand why they would be deployed at altitude, but can anyone explain it to me. Does it have something to do with the turbulence?
I have to admit that I'm not an airbus fan but I love the A340-600 but I was in a 777 flying from Seoul to Seattle(14 and a half hour flight) and we always have very heavy terbulance.
We usually get thunder clouds like that in the afternoon over the mountains and desert from about July through September. But the city itself rarely gets thunderstorms. If you want to avoid those kind of storms flying into L.A., then make sure your flight arrives to LAX in the morning before afternoon heating makes this heavy thunderstorms crop up over the surrounding mountain ranges.
well i guess this is nothing compared my first time riding in an airline like we dropped 50 feet free fall above the pacific ocean three times....well it depends the kind of climate along the way...all i know is when it's windy and where weather change from hot or cold vice versa and there's no air that's the time u encountered this thing..
So you were over Los Angelos when this happened? I'm planning to take an Atlantic flight to London from new jersey on a virgin Atlantic a340. Does anyone know if flying across the Atlantic ocean=lots of turbulence?thanks!
So you were over Los Angelos when this happened? I'm planning to take an atlantic flight to London from new jersey on virgin Atlantic a340. Does anyone know if while flying over the Atlantic ocean if it's really turbulent? Thanks!
I had similiar situation in my flight from Pudong ZSPD to Sheremetyevo UUEE on B763ER VP-BAY. Very high clouds and very shaky wind= nice turbulences for ca.5 minutes.
they are not flaps, they are spoilers. The plane is approaching and the spoilers spoil the airflow, making the plane go down but not accelerating it...
They are the Speed Brakes (called 'spoilers' only when utilised on the ground). If left on it's own, the aircraft comes down the descent as planned by the Flight Computers however that's before air traffic control mess things up and leave you high due to other traffic etc and then you have to use them as jets don't like to go down and slow down at the same time. Also looking at the conditions, the crew may have had engine anti-ice on which further diminishes the aircraft's ability to descend.
That's more like turbulence, most other videos say heavy turbulence and there's nothing happening! If people scream then there is turbulence. That said we were bumping and dropping like that for about 45 mins and the captain said it is light turbulence, even when cabin crew were thrown into the air.
i was on that flight, at first i thought it was some Paki suicide bomber tryna blow us to bits coz we dont believe in their paedophile prophet mohamed wanker!!!... thank god, it was only turbulence!

they are speed brakes. The auto-pilot is maintaining a constant speed by deploying them and reducing the speed of the aircraft.

theyre not flaps, its the spoilers and its needed for extra drag so that the plane can stick to its VNAV descent profile :)
