  • i went there last week, and i saw one neighborhood that had to be demolished. its pretty sad

  • its looks like a complete gut job for the buildings then rebuild the inside of them.I think katrina taught all of us a lessen about reusing structures that were soaked with poison waters of oil,crap,etc.....gut,hose down with some kinda sanitary killer and redo.

it will be a hard, I hope they all have flood insurance in these hard times...

  • I grew up around Elkader, I hope for the best. Iowans are a hardy bunch, they will pull together and clean up.

  • It's going to be difficult -- probably worse than the aftermath of the 1993 floods before everything is said and done.

Many people are already hurting from tornado damage. There was another that hit a Boy Scout camp tonight in western Iowa.

  • Who are you to say it is destroyed? It isn't. Buildings have water in them, but that doesn't mean they are destroyed. Get a life of lies!

  • The buildings themselves probably aren't destroyed... but I'm quite sure there is much destroyed within them. I'm also worried that by the time the flood water recede, the community is going to have a difficult time rebuilding the recreation river front area before the season is over. That will be a big economic blow to Elkader.

  • extensive is not the word for it, destroyed is more like it. well at least the ac units were up higher, I guess most learned that from the first missippi flood in 93... I remember that like it was yesterday....

  • I'm sure there are some businesses that will not recover, but the town as a whole will clean-up and rebuild.

The worst is that there was more rain today, both in Elkader and upstream. It's going to be a long week for many Iowans.
