My family owns a ranch. We don't get much income. I barely made it through high school (actually that's true). I've got no money for college, but I have a life consisting of constant riding of animals. The only thing I can do to help my family earn more income is to try to win a competition near home (a rodeo).

@Quintien1 Thanks for your posts. Actually, in the states where rodeos currently operate, rodeo/livestock is exempt from animal cruelty laws. That means animal abuse is legal in rodeo arenas in those states.

Participating in rodeos is NOT always part of the "cowboy" life style. Part of being a cowboy is protecting your animal's welfare and guiding the cattle to their destination. My grandpa is a farmer/rancher and he always looks after his animals and he goes out to check on them in the mornings before breakfest. Being a cowboy isn't about winning prizes and showing off, it's about being a "real cowboy" who sees their animals health as important before their own.

If rodeos want to survive, they have to adapt and become acceptable to the *normal* people. There are events at rodeos that are humane and not violent, where "wild" animals are not involved. Where the only animals involved end up horses and their riders. Showing skill, not cruelty.
There is nothing wrong with racing your horse around a track, etc. But there is no need for animals to get hurt as part of the event. Those events need to get closed now.

I wonder how many people here have ever attended a ranch, a farm, or heaven forbid a rodeo. See them for yourself without the assistance of a severely BIAS organization spoon feeding propaganda. That's what I did. I was born a city girl and have since returned to my roots to become a 1st generation horse trainer in my family. I dedicate myself to providing for my horses every need and a zero tolerance for abuse. I have been to many rodeos over the years and have yet to see an accident.

Even if they were released, they would be suspect, considering this year's 2009 CFD admitted to only 7 injuries while our cameras caught over 4 dozen. What do you consider as an injury. They Don't look that contorted. The horses necks can move that much. One other thins is how long does it take for an animal to recover? Because a human gets jerked around sometime and will get bruised up but its just shaken up.

Participating in rodeos is NOT always part of the "cowboy" life style. Part of being a cowboy is protecting your animal's welfare and guiding the cattle to their destination. My grandpa is a farmer/rancher and he always looks after his animals and he goes out to check on them in the mornings before breakfest. Being a cowboy isn't about winning prizes and showing off, it's about being a "real cowboy" who sees their animals health as important before their own.

If rodeos want to survive, they have to adapt and become acceptable to the *normal* people. There are events at rodeos that are humane and not violent, where "wild" animals are not involved. Where the only animals involved end up horses and their riders. Showing skill, not cruelty.
There is nothing wrong with racing your horse around a track, etc. But there is no need for animals to get hurt as part of the event. Those events need to get closed now.

We cannot just stop anything... it really messes with the flow of things. What are these people going to do when these things they are doing are banned? What will they do with the animals? And what effect will it have on the economy? I doubt any of these answers are good ones. There are evils in this world, and when you take away one, another comes along, and twice as bad. I wonder how many people here have ever attended a ranch, a farm, or heaven forbid a rodeo. See them for yourself without the assistance of a severely BIAS organization spoon feeding propaganda. That's what I did. I was born a city girl and have since returned to my roots to become a 1st generation horse trainer in my family. I dedicate myself to providing for my horses every need and a zero tolerance for abuse. I have been to many rodeos over the years and have yet to see an accident.

Even if they were released, they would be suspect, considering this year's 2009 CFD admitted to only 7 injuries while our cameras caught over 4 dozen. That Don't make any sense though SHARK. A public event with no Statics? I've Never been to a Rodeo were the animal gets hurt. And Most of your pictures on this slide show Don't look like they get hurt.

What do you consider as an injury. They Don't look that contorted. The horses necks can move that much. One other thins is how long does it take for an animal to recover? Because a human gets jerked around sometime and will get bruised up but its just shaken up.

I've always assumed that it must be really stupid men who get some kick out of abusing animals in rodeos. This just confirms it for me. Could you not complete a full sentence without using foul language? Not if you're a stupid cowboy, no.

Well it just hard to not cuss when there is so many people that are small minded like yourself. You show the pictures that happen one percent of the time. The rest of the time the animals are treated better than a human in some regards.

DHCG- we put the videos out there for everyone to see. What people realize from them is out of our hands. Fortunately, a great many of them are realizing rodeo animal abuse still takes place in the 21st century, and they don't like it. That's a good thing for the animals.
