For anyone who cares...just discovered a neat App on the App Store that records and calculates each players' scores. More worthwhile than you might think!
Nicely done, Mr. Mandl. Used to watch this show with my mom. A lot of contestants in the game show world come and go, but you seemed downright likable.
A recommended variation for the board game Scrabble is to color three of the tiles red (stoppers) to indicate that if you draw one of those tiles, you've lost your turn.
Oh well that tells you I hardly payed attention to this show. But if Memory reserves, I remeber watching this episode, and I kinda got stuck between this, Wheel of Fortune and Jeoprdy!
As much as I like Chuck, Scrabble always looked rigged to me. I don't think it mattered what numbered tiles they chose. If they were liked by the producers, they wouldn't get the stoppers.
Does Rick still have the money he won from that show?...or you reckon he spent it all since 1987? LOL I bet he did put some and saved it for later in the future..i would had if i was his age back then. Sometimes i wish i was a teenager in the 80's instead of a little 6 year old when that episode right there was aired. So i could enjoy more things back then and wear those M.C. Hammer parachute pants. LOL
@The1980sRock no kidding cartoons were the best too during the 80's only Sonic the hedgehog in 1993 t0 1995 and Pokemon were the best cartoons of the 1990's and Teenagemutant Ninjaturtles
@The1980sRock true i have to say that the 70 to the late 80s are the golden age of game shows. Almost every show from all 3 networks(CBS,NBC, and ABC) was a hit.
This is the version I remember when I was kid. I absolutely loved this show, along with many others. I would love to see this and classic episodes of The Price Is Right on GSN.
i watched this when i was 6, i used to think there was people under the desk catching the tiles and pushing them up. i sill think there little gnomes under there.
I was 8 and I never got the chance to watch this show cause my parents would never leave me the fuck alone! But thanks to YT, those shitty days are over :)
they were always on my ass for nothing, making me do shit like take baths and other stuff EVERYDAY...I could never get JUST ONE day to myself without ANY trouble from them!!!
God I love this show. It had everything. Catcthy theme music, flashy set, excellent gameplay (w/intriguing clues), classy host, great contestants... it had it all.
You had guts while introducing yourself, Rick. If you ask me, Chuck looked a little annoyed when you mentioned your tarantula's name. Probably reminded him of the little show that he used to host in the 70s, which I know you were a contestant on, but still. Have you seen the clip from "Greed" when a contestant took a stab at Chuck for that?
The reason for his speedy talking was that he used to be a Top 40 DJ; radio announcers have a tendency to do that. But nowadays, they talk slower and listeners don't get confused as to what was being said. I found it odd for him talking fast, too, but that's part of his personality.
Wow great job Rick! I won big on a game show too, (Wheel of Fortune) but I'd have to say you're the complete package, great personality and a very good player. Congratulations, and if you have any more shows of Scrabble that you were on I'd love to see you play more.
As long the heads of GSN are stuck up their asses and as long as Freemantle Media (the company that owns the rights to the Reg Grundy shows) loosens their grip on this show and "Sale of the Century," don't count on it.
Fremantle owns the rights to both Scrabble and Sale of the Century. I agree that they should pull their heads out of their nether-regions and let these great shows air on GSN.
@godgundam10 Except Hasbro owns the classic game. I guess the Hub would be better to put this classic game show on the map. Hasbro Studios distributes the 1984-90 episodes of "Scrabble" along with the 1993 episodes along with Fremantle Media.
@megamanj2004 Fremantle own the three game shows from the Reg Grundy library including "$ale of the Century" and "Scattergories". Hasbro is the only company that owns the classic game. Hasbro produced the 80's cartoons like "The Transformers", "GI Joe" and "My Little Pony & Friends", and as for the rest, they produced "Family Game Night" with Todd Newton which is on the Hub right now. Tell them to bring this great game show on another channel. Fremantle, Hasbro, let them do it!
Hey, Rick. You think you can post the rest of these Scabble episodes that you were on? If you have them? Scrabble was one of my favorite game shows and until GSN gets their heads out of their nether-reigions and gets the rights to it, I'll have to rely on YouTube to see it.
