This song was a massive hit on the R&B chart in 1947. Get this- it was #1 for a whopping 12 weeks and stayed on the charts 28 weeks. This song was the talk of the town and a dance floor classic in Black communities all across the U.S. in 1947. Enjoy !
Julia (1902-1958) specialized in hat she called "songs my mother didn't want me to sing" -- in other words, double entendre material. This was the second of Julia's tracks to become a pop hit -- which it did in November 1947, peaking at #24 as Capitol Americana 40028.
The song is played during the opening credits. Robin Williams is Joey O'Brien in his car enroute to his employment Turgeon Auto and he confronts a not-yet interred coffin being loaded into a hearse with the new widow nearby.
This song was played in the opening credits of the 1990 Robin Williams comedy,Cadillac Man.I love that movie and this song as well as Robin Williams,he always makes me laugh!!!
So cool to find this song on youtube. My Great-Uncle Sharon Pease was the composer of Snatch and Grab It! He wrote many other songs as well. Thanks for posting it.
@chassia76 That's really cool, I hope someone in the family is getting paid for this song right now, because the NFL just made it more popular then they ever expected it to be again...I hear it every ten minutes on the NFL network..
@psykpeaches I have that same problem off and on, and mostly on Internet Explorer. Try using Firefox instead for YouTube, it doesn't seem to have that problem as much.
This is fascinating, you can hear early rock and roll evolving in this kind of music, same rhythm and bassline and structure, if elvis has sang this, they would have called it rock and roll! Just amazing and an absolutely wonderful sound for a 78!
Ms. Lee's Snatch and Grab It is the best thing about the movie Cadillac Man :D Thanks for posting this one. i have a vid on my channel with Julian McMahon to Ms.Lee's King Size Papa
