  • you have a jetglo and fireglo?! i only have the maplego 4003...i'd kill for the 4001c64s though...! nice one man, sounds fab

  • @vinorama58 you are wrong, paul said sometime that he used his rick for sgt pepper, and the sgt pepper bass tone cant be of a hofner bass...

  • I have a 75 4001 and the action is perfect!

  • Great job on a difficult song. You totally helped me figure it out by watching you. Thanks!

  • I WANT A DAMN RICK.

  • @Goldie6434 i agree with you, but they cost a FOURTINE

  • bass is just for guitar players who get lazy nah im jk nice job man

  • Nice sideburns and for real hold on the that ric they don't make burgundy glo anymore nor autumn glo for 4003 so keep it will LAST

  • Ce qui n'aime pas sa ne savent pas joué de basse !

  • are you gay?:D

btw:the cover is very good! :D

  • dig the ric but the hofner is the sound for this tune

  • Definately one of Paul's best nice job! I have an identical fireglo 4003 but I changed to the vintage toaster p/ups and a direct replacement bridge. It nails the 60's tone brilliantly!

  • Very good except the one note going down should be flatted on the scale. On "Could it be anybody." Also less notes on scale part on this middle section.

  • real nice man!

I'd love to have your sleight of hand!

  • i just want to play that song on guitar but i like you playing this on the bass nice job

  • man i like it

  • i wonder if paul still owns his rickenbacker, i have seen recent photos of his collection and i do not see it in any of them. The last time I had seen or heard it played by him was in 2001 on driving rain. He either no longer even bothers getting it out or he doesn't own it anymore....

  • MAN I LIKE YOUR STYLE GREAT JOB

  • Nice . Rickenbackers are the best.

  • excellent

  • Nice playing and nice Ric. But I'm confused- do they sell a Ric exactly like Paul's anywhere? I can't find it anywhere :(

  • @hiphopsucks96 yes they do but they're quite pricey. its called a 4001 c64s. and they run anywhere from $2700- $4500

  • genial!

  • Last note: B

  • Not on the bass, listen to the original song once again

  • Nice job... does it sound too hollow??

  • how many rickenbackers do you have

  • Complimenti!

  • Yes. It has the older-style Fireglo finish and a skunk stripe, which give it away as a 4001. The tone is also pretty signature.

  • Love the axe dude. Hang on to it. Burgundy glo isnt offered anymore as if you didnt know. Great playin too.

  • great job man!

  • That's a great line. What year is that rick i have an oh6 4003 in midnight blue but your color is more unique.

  • great job!!!

  • like cliff burton's bass guitar!

  • amazing! You've got a relic on your hands!

  • can i have your bass?haha

  • very good, and an amazing bass

  • love it i like yer bass

  • nice job. for a more old school sound might try fingerpicking though.

  • yeah but MAcca used picks so it is old school and correct to the original

  • there is a 4001 still is the c64 and it cost around 3.500 dollars

  • that is so cool! Rick Bass, vintage beatles, what else?

  • Listen to Multitrack Master of this song, the bass track has pick.

  • fuck you bastard if you don't liked just don't subscribe,

  • Just because you can't play with a pick, doesn't mean it sucks.

    Also, listen to the original.

  • ahh..rickenbacker...wanst one so bad...

    awesome playing man!

  • cool bass sounds really clean

  • Sounds Great! What amp are playin through?

  • Hi, Markbass cmd 121p

  • Great job. Rickenbackers are by far the best basses in my opinion. You should do Back In The U.S.S.R or Paperback Writer, they have great bass lines.

  • Really well done mate!

Y'know what I noticed on Ricks? The action seems really comfortable, is this so?

My Stagg's action is monstrously high, makes playing it a chore.

  • I have the exact same problem on my jazz bass, but rickenbackers are like butter for action, sure theres some with higher action, but you could always have them set up

  • Action is really low... maybe too much for me!

  • i heard a homeless family singing this on the subway a few weeks ago

    made me stop and think

  • Bravo! :-)

  • Good work, but try playing it way up the neck, mostly on the 3rd and 4th strings and with the string damper engaged - you'll get much closer to the McCartney/Ric sound you can hear on the original. One of THE classic basslines, though, eh?

  • Almost... Doesn't sound good on a Rickenbacker at all... Maybe it's the pick.

  • greaaaaaaaaaat! great u man! and great the rick!

  • Rickenbackers certainly are good with picks, every style is good on a Rick, I once saw a live band where the bass player was playing the Rick with drumsticks!

  • Drumsticks!? I'm all for experimental, but drumsticks!?

Anyhow, great bass! I have a 4003, and i absolutely love it.

  • Haven't you seen Alex Lifeson? :P

He plays guitar, but still cool with drumsticks.

And Mathias IA Eklundh (from freak kitchen) plays with china-food-sticks-things.... And also one live consert he played with a bullock-penis :P

  • great cover! but rickenbackers arnt good with picks

  • does Rickenbackers always sound like they just got new strings? because I'm considdering on buying one.

When you try basses in the shops, they allways have new strings... but then when you have played them a few times, they start getting sloppy and lesser bright in the sound... how good is a Rickenbacker at keeping that sound?

  • Everyday when i go downstairs i think someone bought a new bass that looks exactly like my 4003 and its tone is so consistant. I change strings for safety ever 2 months but i've kept them on for like 4 and they sound just as good everynote.

  • i had never payed attention to that bassline... it is really good

  • It is indeed. The whole problem with the original mixes of the song (mono or stereo) was that the instruments were kinda buried. The remix on the Yellow Submarine "Songtrack" were a revelation--not only was the bass much clearer, it brought ouf some lead guitar which was always there, but just never so clear. A great song all around.

And a great bass cover! Thanks for posting!

  • can a bass line get any better than this?

  • yes

  • lovely ric =D!

  • which is the difference between the 4001 and the 4003 rick bass??thanks

  • 4001 was stopped early 1980s and has a more trebly sound and a fatter neck ferrule at the first fret, think Chris Squire and McCartney sounds. The 4003 was started in the early 1980s as the replacement, with a slimmer neck ferrule at the first and a deeper sounding capacitor placed in the tone controls. From 2006 Rickenbacker now make the 4003 with a push pull pot that gives you either the thinner 4001 sound or the thicker 4003 sound. I own one of these models and it's got a great sound

  • you play great! I play alot of beatles songs too, and I've always wanteed a ric *drool* I envy you

  • How many rick's u got mate,

wa the hell do u do fr a livin??

by the way ur good :)

  • great job! i really want a ric. =)

  • very nice job. totally nailed it. i love ric tones and some day hope to own one *sigh*

could you tell me what you paid for it?

  • Thank you very much!

I paied 1.500 euro three years ago without case.

    I buyed a original case from 75....

  • great, thanks!

    again, perfect performance

  • say dude you rock. Thanks for posting this, I've always loved the bass on this song.

  • Excellent, but I do agree with iprq1966 that the treble is too high. You have the bass line down perfectly and would sound great with the bass level turned up. Great Job though

  • That song has my favorite bass line. very nicely played.

  • nice job, did Paul use the Hofner or the Rick when recording this tune?

  • wow man you're a great musician ! you have a very nice tone and a very nice bass. take a look at my videos !

  • That was good keep posting more vids

  • McCartney gets a lot of credit for letting the bass guitar out of the closet, so to speak, and making it an integral part of the music.

Good job. Also on Maxwell's Silver Hammer, good job.

    Give us more please.

  • It's very very similar to my youtube Version!

    Great Job !

  • please play me and my monkey's bass line

  • The tone sounds like it has a bit too much treble, in my expert view. Regardless, a terrific rendition of a terrific bass line.

  • nice playing, but like dont be afraid to get into the music more, like with your body and stuff. after all, you're playing the Beatles!!

  • I thoroughly enjoyed this video. AWESOME bass. from one Beatles fan to another =]

  • Another job well done, fellow Ric player!

  • I absolutely love this song. great work man!

  • It sounds great! I use Rick round strings but I think

I will switch to flats to get that Pepper 60's sound.

    Try another Pepper song.

  • What kind of strings on the Rick?? flats I guess?

  • Yes, flatwound D'Addario Chromes..

  • Great job, awesome song, Happy birthday to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band!
