I don't really agree with LUCASFR0

It isnt romantic so much as frenetic and over-hurried. Perfect pitch and execution and nice dynamics... but somehow it sounds like the Quartetto Italiano couldn't wait to get it over with so that they could go down the trattoria for a quick glass of Nero d'Avola or 6.

Between 5:40 and 6:18 on the Emerson recording is amazing. So powerful and rich.

Some of my friends are playing this for solo and ensemble, and when I looked at the music, I was surprised to see the second violin in 6/8 when everyone else is in 3/4 (around 2:07). Brahms did some awesome things with this song. I really enjoy it.

That's not extraordinary. Just think that a compass in 6/8 is equals to two 3/4 in just one compass.
