@MrWhat555 Any cage you build yourself is going to be heavy(er) than a homologated cage, since the latter can have smaller diameter tubing, and less tubes. The cross between the B-pillars is required by Rally America and NASA Rallysport to race in the United States. This is a production class rally car, its going to be heavy regardless, so we focused on safety and the ability to possibly roll the car back over and keep driving if there was a crash.
@LatinoGamer96 Absolutely! We entered the car in 2010 Prescott Rally and took first in class. We are currently getting the car ready for another race this August (Gorman Ridge Rally). You can see pictures of it in its completed form on our site.
I was looking at the Jackson Baja WRX and i was wondering if they could build the subframes, transmission mounts and all the front tube bumper for a Subaru GF8 (Version 8 engine, tranny and diffs) and for how much? Thank you
@DLTrally Custom work can be done, but i have no idea what the prices / availability is for getting work done (i'm always trying to get my car back in the shop!) contact them via jackson rally dot com - Good Luck with the build!
that cage cage out sick thats a real pro nice buld but insted of music you should walk us through the steps u took to get to this point o well nice car love the old school impreza and my fav the 91-94 legacy turbos. i know there dogs stock but a good swap some breaks susp wheels great little car and 90% of the time your the only one at the meet witha old school leg. i owned legs 2.5rs and a 05sti my fav is still my 93 leg w/ 02 wrx swap 245hp to wheels fun fun fun cool car peace
@320jer A video project to encompass the entire build would be quite an undertaking. If you're really intereted in the entire project grab a cup of coffee for a good read over on the DirtyImpreza forums > Video and Picture Forums > Member Journals > DirtyImpreza Project RS thread.
@dirtyimprezadotcom i did not mean step buy step just a general over view. but cool vid any way i have been to dirty impreza a bunch of times but its been about a year maybe longer . i will check it out
@dirtyimprezadotcom Any specific areas that need more attention for seam welding? I've got a 99 impreza L rally project and my brother and I want to seam weld the appropriate places. Thanks!
@HKST51R The seams we did are all throughout the inside of the cabin and on the underside of the car. You do not need to seam weld the frame past the strut towers. Post your question in the DirtyImpreza forums under Stage Rally Prep > Cage Construction and Fabrication
@HKST51R Absolutely. Jackson Rally provides full cage construction and support services. I can't really think of a situation where you'd need to "touch up" a roll cage. If you wreck the car, the cage usually needs to be rebuilt.
@bp968 It is not a pre-built cage, the entire thing is custom and assembled into the car as it is constructed. Fabrication is all done by Jackson Rally, they can be contacted on the web or via the DirtyImpreza forums for pricing information.
@katanaburner Jackson Rally does extremely high quality custom cage fabrication, as such... you can expect to pay for top notch work. ;-) Ask yourself this though... If you were flipping in the air in your rally car, would you want to be worrying about poor workman ship on your roll cage then?
@TheBladeofaDemon Nothing big planned in the aero department yet. The car is pretty slow at the moment. Perhaps when we do a motorswap and start carrying more speed a WRC style wing will replace the OEM one.
@dirtyimprezadotcom would you do something reminescent of the 1998 WRC with the bloated fenders, when you say WRC style wing you mean like the newer WRC STi's
@TheBladeofaDemon widebody isn't really needed right now since we're running 195 gravel tires on 6.5" wheels. It sure does look cool though (the 22B style fenders, etc). Yes, a WRC wing with the vertical fins. I've seen it on a GC impreza and it looks awesome.
so 1.75x .095 will be fine? i have a mian hoop in those dimension, but i was going to switch to 1.75x .120. i guess i was basing it off the scca rule book. i am new to this so any feed back is appreciated :D. i have a miata currenly, and i want to enter that, but i don't know how rules stands on convertibles, but i do have a hard top. i read somewhere they did not allow convertibles becasue no one ran them, but i heard of one running a while
@mncreek Are you building this cage for rallying the miata? 1.75 x .120 is thicker, so this would be fine. Double check all the rules books for the sanctioning bodies that run the events you are considering entering before bending a single tube!
@dirtyimprezadotcom i have a 4 pt roll bar in 1.75x .095, but to run scca you need 1.75x .120, but since you guys are not part of the scca... i was going to build this miata for miata challenge, but after attending a rally x in cal city last year... things have changed. i plan to run the miata in rally x first, and hopefully progressively move up from there. i was planning to run an rx7, but i found another miata for super cheap, so i want to give it a try.
@mncreek Cool, yeah i was at the Cal City rallyx. I am sure the miata challenge cage rules are much different than rally. Road race cars have different requirements for door bars, gussets, etc than rally roll cages. Keep in mind that if you are just going to rallycross the car, then you can do just about whatever you want to the cage. If you ever want to aspire to stage rally competition, then do it right the first time around!
@dirtyimprezadotcom miata challege rules are not as strict, all you need is a four point roll bar, basically anything that can get you into the track works. no shit, you were there, my red miata has since met its demise, so i picked up another one. i will start in rally x, and just run the four point, and from there add attachments according to rules... i just want to get car control down before i decide to play with the big dogs.
What is the reason for putting tubes so close to the head. Thats a big no no! You could have arched them back and up out of the way. @ 3:35, It hurts just to look at them.
The "main" bars of the cage (main hoop, half lats, backstays, etc) have to be 1.75 x.095 we did everything else 1.50, with some much smaller auxiliary bars in the engine compartment. The rally rule books specify which bars have to be the minimum size.
nice work on the cage... I am helping my buddy as he is putting a funny car cage built to 25-3 specs into a 1981 Z28 camaro. This is a drag racing car that when done will certified to 6.50 ET. I seen that you guys were tig welding. Did you use chrome moly pipe as well? It's been a huge project but only been at it a week and a half and another day and it will be done. He has gone over spec on alot of it too for safety and ease of certification. Wow is there alot of work to this.
Drag race and rally cages have very different rules to abide by. We aren't allowed to use chromoly in rally. Yes the majority of this cage was TIG welded, but it is legal to MIG as well.
This particular cage will cost in the neighborhood of $6K. It is 100% custom, and is built to FIA Article 253 standards by Jackson Rally in Temecula, CA
doin that to mine to bro as we speek, lol. just trying to get ideas on a roll cage design and how to fix all my wiring cause i dont want the bottom of my dash just the top part, dont need the extra wait its heavy enough with me in it,lol
Don't worry about the weight. The competition that most novices will be racing in (including myself) weight really isn't that big of factor. Safety should be priority number one.
Thats kind of defeating the purpose of a rollcage.
The purpose is tio increase chassis rigidity and also for added safety.
You have different types, This is a full cage that is HIGHLY not recommended for a street car. Its not safe, and also not praactical. What you can consider is a Roll hoop
Haha. I know you put this hear 4 months ago so you might have already put it in. But yeah, it is possible for it not to show as much. Just dont paint it white. ;)

@dirtyimprezadotcom it does, have you seen the infamous 2011 Sti sedan, also, it would be a good contender in WRC.

what do you call that? 0:43 and 1:43
nzk20a 1 year ago
@nzk20a 0:43 = this is prepping the inside of the rear wheel wells for seam welding and strut plate reinforcement.
1:43 = this is completed seam welding on the rear wheel wells on the inside of the cabin.
Seam welding strengthens the chassis by welding it together in more places than just the factory welds.
