Francome was due to ride See You There in 85 but was injured in the Arkle, and forced to miss the ride allowing Steve Smith Eccles to establish this famous partnership. He announced his intended retirement that day, but I wonder if it was that Nicky Henderson wanted to offer him a second retainer and Fred Winter would not let him. I reckon Francome would have achieved over 2,500 winners had he been able to ride for both stables, and I think he would have ended up riding Remittance Man.

It looks like SYT's injury travails have started to catch up with him by 87. He trounces the opposition in 85 and 86 but this was much more of a struggle. Doesn't get the credit Istabraq does, but he ought to.
