Everytime I try and put my foot inside my partners hip, they just circle away from it, bringing their feeet towards my head. Any tips on stopping them from doing so?
@icon115 Well not necessarily... Some guys with stronger necks and thicker shoulders are much harder to triangle- especially for someone with shorter legs. I know a guy who is double-jointed in his elbow and it's freaky with what armbars he can get out of. If technique level is exactly the same between two guys- the stronger/faster one will win. If strength/speed is exactly the same- the one with better technique will win. Just the nature of the sport!
Thank you for the techniques. One question/concern when bringing the arm under, is there any way to prevent the person moving to topmount? My arm against the hip would usually prevent this.
There are certainly things that your opponent can do to prevent this. However, if he is doing those things (ie- in a different position) then he is open to other counters and escapes. That's the name of the game, you can't control everything at once.
Good escapes. When i go to Youtube to improve my game between training sessions it's between you guys, submissions 101 and Roy Dean. All good at explaining benifits of escapes vs only having offense on your side.
On variation 2 when u hook that leg just throw the hand the is over his head over you opposite shoulder a you have a move the my gym has called W. I'll be uploading a video of it soon
In that case you simply use a different escape, but if you don't practice these as well, your opponent will adapt their base forcing you to adapt your escapes.
Love your videos! just started jujitsu last month and one of my instructors think im lying about just starting he said that there is no possible way that im improving this fast. I told him that i was watching videos and practicing at home but he still think im full of shit. LOL

I want to thank you for this sidemount escape variation. As a BJJ practioner w/ 6 weeks experience, I was highly frustrated with the side mount, as I didn't know how to get out. NOT NO MORE! I was able to execute a HOOK AND ROLL ESCAPE, after I failed (more like forgot LOL) to reach under and grab my foot, setting the hook to pull butterfly guard. I was amazed on how it worked. TY! --bjjphanatic (I signed up on your website)
The watermark is only on during talking, not during the demonstration of the technique itself. Plus, all videos in our store have the watermark removed. Thanks for watching, and please check out the site.
The strength of TFW is that the techniques are simple so they are easy to replicate in the gym. The more people that buy the video packages the more videos I presume TFW will make.

There are many diff side mount escape variations from this position, which is why it's a good idea to try diff ones and find out what best suits you.

Idea is okay, but when you reach your foot, I can finish you.

@TechniquePrevails i'm curious...shouldn't all techniques work on all sizes of partners?

The first escape seems like a good way to give up the mount.

Nice warrior trunks my man. I have the same kind.

The hook and roll looks like it could make a great drill if you both don't get too dizzy.

I like the second variation. Thank you very much! This is going to help my game.

Good stuff. Jailbreak is a high percentage move and IMO works very well.
On an unrelated note, what kind of accent does the guy in the camo trunks have?

you haven't met Kevin, a 7 foot something 360 lbs-er from my Judo class.
Then again, it wasn't so much control as it was just him covering his opponents.

Cool stuff.. Although on the other version where you hook the leg, your opponent on the top can turn to a kneebar...so be careful when doing that!

this looks like it would only work if your opponents not active on top.
