What a epic scene. But, I wish those alien like robot people were humans/us, many hundred thousand years ahead of us "old" humans. I mean, we will look similar one day. Can you imagine...
you would think that at some point within 2000 years someone somewhere would have wanted to explore the wreckage of coney island and would have found the amphibicopter long before then
This film is so poignant to me because since waking from a coma with aphasia, I feel as though I exist, as apposed to actually living, like a trapped machine.
I have no real family and the desolation, (post accident), is so profound and constant that I writhe around in my segregation looking for a way out.
What is so striking about this scene for me is how accurate the future elements could be; that evolved robots will be mining the depths of our ruins -- all of it encased in snow and ice when the sun winks out and it Earth becomes incapable of sustaining biological life. What an amazing, thought-provoking scene. So clear in its vision. Thank you, Steven.
Don't those fuckers have wifi? Why do they need to touch each other for the info data transfer. Its probably some symbolic shit the director wanted to express they had similar human characteristics. But its dumb. Could have been done by them just extending their palms at the dude made the original transfer WITHOUT touching.
@spaniardmale77 ummm, maybe Wifi to them is ( since its been in a far far whatever future) is just like scrps from the history books no worth remembering. but yeah, you got a real good point back there. but it does not matter. the movie is epic.
@spaniardmale77 I could be wrong, but I don't think wi-fi was prevalent when this film was made. It wasn't a securely developed tech until some time later. Kubrick nor Spielberg wouldn't presume that and write it into the script.
1:26 "...staring ahead forever all through the darkness of each night and the next day....and the next day...." and then they should have cut to the credits.
Bringing the alien theme in at the last minute to give the audience a happy ending where the kid gets his "wish", just ruined it for me.
@KillSwitch2 well i mean they look like aliens, and they never really say "we are mecha" or anything, so we only have jude law's word on whether or not mecha would get that advance. so im just going to go ahead and assume that they are aliens
Your assumption would be wrong and would make no sense. The mechas do communicate with each other and one of them even says that David is an early model that lived amongst humans, so he is the only link and proof to the mecha's long-extinct past. Also, there is a statue in the front of the building where Dr. Hobby(William Hurt) makes the artificial humans that closely resembles what the mechas look like at the end. You can see it clearly in the scene where David "sees himself"
I always get goosebumps when that scene at 1:32 is starting and John Williams' piece "Stored Memories" is played. The images and that great music just gives me the creeps. Epic!
Out of context, this scene makes this movie look like the greatest of all time.

The evolved mecha are simply majestic in their form and in their motive to help their ancestor David achieve happiness.

i part of me thinks this movie would have been better if it ended with David frozen in time with the blue fairy.

I've watched this movie lots of times and I'm pretty sure they are aliens they even said in the movie that when they came all humans were gone.
Loveisblindness89 7 months ago
im kinda dissapointed that they arent aliens, but robots. i like the idea of them being aliens much better
bluereaper75 7 months ago
@bluereaper75
:sigh:... they are NOT aliens. They are advanced mecha. Jude Law's character foreshadows them earlier in the film.

Pure genius the way the alien transport disassembles itself and moves on to another function.
heliflyer7 7 months ago
@heliflyer7 I don't think they're aliens more like advance mechas:)
proteusu9 7 months ago
At that point in the future machines had advanced so greatly they would be very much like extraterrestrials in terms of knowledge and function.
