@skyriders1 Thanks, I've been searching for confirmation of that since I first heard the song in 1972. I knew about Canaan Connecticut, since I lived just over the state line in Massachusetts. I was pretty sure even then she was singing about Canaan, Connecticut. Also, the stanza:

"Oh, I want to be there in the wintertime

With a fireplace burning to warm me

And you to hold me when it's stormy"

...almost screams New England.

My young daugher couldn't sleep and so we listened to this on UTUBE. Her nightmare evaporated into sweet smiles and laughter as she gently settled down to sleep. A special moment for us due to a very special song performed by an artist who cannot be rated highly enough.
