  • i would never violate and abuse my guitar like that.

  • isnt this only going to be fast until you've played off all the excess polyurethane acting as a buffer between your hand and neck.

  • Fingerease, just sayin'.

  • "hello my name is, sdfaihsdfashd"

  • I did this to my '57 Les Paul and I only got 9x faster! Damnit! I want my full 10x speed improvement. I will now attempt this technique to my '57 Strat. It had better work...

  • instead try TO FUCKING PRACTICE YOUR SPEED ON THE GUITAR! Lazy fucks...

  • tchau!

  • nobody is masturbating a guitar, so finger strentgh and, finding the right shape neck and general ability to play is what makes you if you want to call is fast. fast playing is playing the right licks not storking your guitar neck like a cock.

  • instead of doing that you could just buy a guitar with a satin finish

  • lol of you just buy a neck that has this done already like takamine!

  • Or if you want a faster neck, just buy a Hagstrom.

  • Hello my name is Sslkdfjsdklfsjf Aswruwiwgvnroi

  • This is true, satin finishes on necks help your hand glide more easily, but no one really moves their hands that much. It's the speed and strength of the fingers and picking sync that actually matters...

  • a good way to going faster on the neck, is practice :)

  • @CannibalZombieKiller haha, agree :]

  • I just use Lemon Oil, It makes Your finger slide on strings easier too.

  • @ortafunk Lemon oil is used for rosewood fingerboards, I would not recomend using it on your hands or back of your neck, it will kill your strings real fast!

  • I get what everyone's saying about how you're only as fast as your body, but this modification does work. If any of your guys feel friction on guitar necks finished with high gloss polyurethane and paint, then you'll understand that it does become an annoyance for many players. I heartily approve of doing this to a beater guitar or a guitar you don't plan on getting rid of. But I like the low friction feeling of satin finished, nitro finishes, and oil finishes.

  • you can also use KY jelly on the neck.

  • Oh, there must be a bettter way. I like shiny.

  • @weibernipple your neck is only going to be as fast a you can play ,,,, so wrecking your neck make zero difference ,,, i have seen guys use baby powder like a pool cue ,,,the guitar i play is so old and played so much theres no finish on the neck

  • There's nothing wrong with doing this as long as you aren't hung up the resale value of the guitar. Any change to the finish is purely on the surface. Most modern guitars have about a 1/32" of paint and finish all over in general . I think the idea that speed will be increased is misleading, that just takes practice plain and simple. Being a player who prefers the tactile comfort of a satin finish on the necks of my guitars I have done this to my Gretsch Corvette and Hagstrom Super Swede.

  • 1:30....the only "illness" is in your head dude..why don't you play a single string on a broomstick? No fatigue at all, speed of light!! Hahahaha...

  • I have a custom strat jeff beck and Gibson custom ES 335...did what you said and i am not faster...just joking...is pratice you fool and speed is only a minor aspect...moreover why did you not show the imrpovement by playing before and after...? Anyone seeing this vid forget it...don`t destroy your instrument..really Fender and Gibson know their business..

  • your guitar doesn't determine how fast you can play... just practice and learn how to play your instrument

  • I need some advice. I have an old 90s Warlock 24 fret, its a 24 5/8 scale neck ...but I wanna buy a new Bc rich maybe the Zoltan but the frets look far apart from each other. Think the Zoltan is a 25 1/2 scale neck. How do I know what to look for so I dont get a guitar with frets kinda far apart?? anyone? really would appreciate any advice.

  • seriously guys...DONT DO THIS!!

  • the title of this video should be."How to destroy the value of your guitar"

  • @EverythingGuitar1 or how to destroy the nerves of 25.000 guitarists ahahah

  • @FruduaTv right on

  • @EverythingGuitar1 I agree but anyway (and even if i would never do that) this is a cool trick and totally reversible, you just need to polish it again ;) Everyone here would admit it: High gloss finishes are badass, but your hand cannot slide. That's why I prefer satin finishes on necks :D

  • Comment removed

  • @EverythingGuitar1

People have been doing this for decades

  • @EverythingGuitar1 I'm all about having a guitar that will be worth a lot in the future. At the same time, I find a great value in the playability and feel of a guitar that I play a lot (which will ultimately get a lot of dings and other things that might degrade the value anyway)

  • i liked you in everyone loves raymond

  • i dont care if it's true or not i'll never fuck up my gorgeous guitar...

  • @FruduaTV WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT! I WORK FOR A LUTHIER, AND THERES NO FUCKING WAY HE'D TELL YOU TO DO THIS. WHY DON'T YOU PEOPLE JUST PRACTICE?

  • @ironnorthey I agree !! If you look at all those shredders out there .How many of them have done this to a guitar ? However what he has done here can be polished back up to gloss providing there is enough finish left. If you want a slippy neck then a little hand cream will do and it won't spoil the finish . There are lots of proprietary lubricants available but hand cream is usually a lot cheaper and more available.!! ( some necks are made "satin" so why not chose one of them ?

  • Your comment that people don't play fast on nitro finished guitars is garbage.

  • Scratch off your finish to make your guitar faster. Makes sense, I guess...

  • yea really...just totally ruined the finish and now only a dumb fuck would buy that guitar. Typical French....Just give up...hahahaha....instead of mastering their practice. jus surrender guitar playing like you guys do everything else. lol

  • @BoxsterGuy85 he's Italian and a guitar luthier.

  • @BoxsterGuy85 That can be polished back up to gloss . But I would just use hand -cream on the neck.

  • How about getting faster by practicing instead of ruining the fucking finish on my guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • @klepetar Well none of them are very fast are they?

  • @sanjinator17 fast sucks. all these shredders are mediocre songwriters. the exception is van halen and perhaps sometimes joe satriani gets a good tune out there..

  • @klepetar You're right. Even Satriany uses fast stuff sparringly because he knows it saturates the piece as a whole taking air from it.

  • @klepetar I think that's a very ignorant statement

  • The necks on all of my guitars move at the same speed; 0mph!!!

Back when I wanted to play faster I had to work on it by practicing at a slower pace to build muscle memory skills... then slowly speed up till I reached the desired speed I was looking for!

And guess what!!! I still do the same thing because it works so much better than any snake oil elixir or any "trick of the day" like this! And, if your hand drags / sticks to the neck of your guitar you should probably be thinking more about soap

  • Just use Elixirs and keep the board and your hands clean.

  • clan the whole area, uh... with your shirt sleeve why not.

  • don't mess up your guitars, kids

  • Does it work on necks that are bare wood?

  • My hand doesn't move any easier over my satin necks than it does on the gloss ones.

  • I put a little bit of baby powder on my fretting hand...It allows me to zip up and down the neck without ruining the guitar..(but if your hands get sweaty it doesn't work so well)

  • can you do this on a gibson sg guitar?

  • inadvisable! Do it only if you hate your guitar

  • guitar players have been doing this for ages, its really up to personal preference. As far as being afraid of "defacing" the value of a lp custom, no shit.... but so does swapping the original pickups or getting buckle rash on the backside. If you're afraid of defacing value, stop calling yourself a "player", and call yourself a collector.

  • Do this on your Les Paul it works...

  • man you must be out of your fuckin mind if you think i'm gunna do that to my guitar

  • What did he just say?

  • Do this on custom guitars, it works

  • so can i do this on my natural wood finish strat neck?

  • agh oh my god this is like torture!! Don't do this!! This will not make you play better!

  • why would you do that. Imagine having A Gibson Les Paul Custom and doing that. The whole value of the guitar drops

  • Hi! Nice tip. But I was wondering what impacts this will have on the wood. As the painted finish guitars are less affected by the weather. If I do this to my guitar, there is any chance to have the neck warped faster then the normal use? Thanks!

  • @morfer2001 No effect at all. This just takes the top coat off, not all of it. For that matter, you can take it down to bare wood, which I normally do, and it will still not affect the stability of the neck. The natural oil from your hand gets in the the wood and protects it better than any man made product. Same as scalloping the fretboard. The truss rod and string tension are the only thing you have to keep balanced.

  • @morfer2001 @0Heavy0Metal0 I second that, My 2 guitars that dont have a finished neck (ibanez rg and jackson dinky) both feel amazing after the natural oil from my hands has penetrated it. It isn't dirty oil mind you. And it doesnt stink like dirty human either. Keep your hand clean and your neck will be clean but shiny/oily enough that it looks like it was factory finished. Only thing you have to do is practice practice practice. Eventually the neck "finishes" itself. So to speak.

  • @terran236 haha this may be true, but just sounds kinda gross lol. The neck finishes itself with your skin's oil?

  • @SqualoSurf20 yep. It's true, eddie van halen also said it. His signature guitars are unfinished for that same reason. "Skin oil is better than any synthetic crap" Or something along those lines.

  • Attention, retards:

The title of this video is "how to make your guitar NECK 10X faster", not "how to make your PLAYING 10X faster"...

  • I know some commenters have lamented taking a peice of sandpaper to a prized possesion, but I plan on doing this with my Jazz Bass soon, so thank to FrudiaTV for the tip. To anyone who has only played on a high gloss neck, go out to a guitar store and just try a neck with a satin finish, a lot of Martin Acoustics are like this.

  • fuck that this should say how to wreck your guitar if you want to play faster practice

  • where is my hi gloss finish? haha that's not faster or easier my thought. If you want easier or faster playing the guitar, than do it practice more your self~~ :)

  • Is he really telling me that brushing away my beautiful high gloss neck finish (thus making it a "handmade" satin finish) makes my guitar neck 10x faster?!

People, this is the reason why Italy is near bankruptcy.

    Don't try this at home.

  • @Exlocos Uhm... he's telling you this because it's true. Not 10x faster, but slides are 10x easier, the feel is smoother, and your hand doesn't stick to it like on a "beautiful high gloss finish".

Which by the way, I'd personally have a guitar that plays like a million bucks versus a guitar that looks like a million bucks...

  • @donbehatin I don't doubt the effect. Obviously it does make a guitar neck faster.

I just can't see why you'd do this to a guitar. If you really want a satin finish on your high gloss guitar, either buy such a guitar or look for a luthier near to you and let him do the paintjob. Thats 200 bucks and your guitar doesn't lose its personality. Just my opinion.

  • @Exlocos Actually, a fresh paint job is a tone sucker. This is partly why a 10 year old guitar of the same model as a brand new guitar sounds better, usually.

Sanding the finish off makes the guitar sound BETTER, resonate BETTER, because it's not hindered by the weight of the paint.

Better is subjective, of course, but when people are provided with clips of a dark guitar and a bright guitar with the same pickups/amp/settings, they almost always prefer the brighter guitar. YMMV.

  • that was a beautiful guitar... kudos...

  • thank you, my guitar's neck feels faster now :)

  • Bullshit. You want to be faster, better, stronger ? Practice, and when you're done, practice again.

  • Playing on the neck of the Wolfgang has spoiled me to the feel of naked-ish wood. This is an awesome tip as when I did it to a few other guitars I own, I used 600grit sand paper. Thanks for sharing.

  • I did this on my memphis LP. the neck was glossed and during the summer (heat) and during long play times, the sweat from my hand would stick to the neck. It works, you dont need to tear deep. Just enough to take the gloss off.

  • i did this and the neck still isn't moving.

  • i Know It's Gonna Help With Speed... But What i Dun get is Wat is the point In Doing this?.... If u Want A Faster Neck Dun Settle For high Gloss Finishers....Just get A Guitar With A Natural neck Finish....

  • I polished mine to 1600, its semi-gloss now, feel great and still looks good.

  • Great video! Thanks 4 uploading:-)

  • LMFAO..... just rub some talc into the palm of your fret hand. Sorted

  • im just saying if u want to be a good guitar player u gotta learn how to go fast up n down the neck with out doing tht faster thing

    #just saying

  • thanks for sharing :D

  • Nice video,, but,,, you dont have be so technical about it. Wipe off the urethane/lacquer/paint layer, and finish smoothing it up with 1200 grade of sandpaper. I have done many Fender ( expensive ones ) with this technique, and it works beautifully.

  • My guitar came like this from the factory and its feel is super nice.

(gets compliments all the time too! :D )

  • I think it's not quite 10x faster; it's more like 8.75x faster

  • get to the chopper now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How about simply using a high quality polish, and keeping it shiny? Works for me. The frictionless quality comes from the pores of the finish being filled. In the video it is filled by the powder formed by the sanding process. A wax/oil wouldn't be so destructive.

  • I did this to my epiphone lespaul...to the point where the paint is gone and it's just down to the wood...kinda like the zakk wylde les paul custom haha

  • @pinoyguitarplayer101 Ah that's not good. Have someone spryaing some coats of satin finish on the neck.

  • @FruduaTv Wouldn't that be a better solution to start with? Tearing down the paint layer by layer seems unhealthy for the neck...

  • @FruduaTv As long as its oiled and waxed its no problem at all.

  • @pinoyguitarplayer101 You're fine. Nothing wrong with a neck with bare wood. My guitar teacher who has been playing for years has his les paul down to bare mahogany and he loves it. Also youtube Eddie Van Halen on CNN and he explains how his Custom Wolfgang has bare maple for the back of his guitar necks.

  • @tMattLZ It's not a good idea to have completely bare wood exposed. Wood is very absorbent and will pick up moisture from your hands and the humidity in the atmosphere. Moisture getting into the wood is a bad thing--warping WILL happen because of uneven moisture levels between the back and the fretboard side. Probably what you think is "bare wood" actually has some type of oil finish applied. It feels like bare wood but the oil fills the wood pores to prevent them absorbing moisture.

  • How to fuck your guitar.

  • muito bom

  • If I do this to my guitar; will I have to oil it later on?

  • @mrbuddha2026 No. there no need to oil the neck .. Just be very very carefull not to get to heavy a grit abrasive pad and take your time . Dont try rush this as it will not turn out right if you do , . All your doing is taking a very very fine coat of lacquer of the neck .If it is a thing you do not like it , It can be polished out with 3M rubbing compond ..

  • @Touyube36 Ok. Thanks a lot my friend :D

  • adhesive paper, you can call tape =)

  • How to make your guitar neck 10 x faster? Practicing

  • @LudwigNyman Amen!

  • I would also like to point out " If you did this to your neck" its very very easy to bring the gloss finsh back to the paint work ," 3M Fine or light grit rubbing compound. " The same as the compound used on a car to remove scratchs and bring up a high gloss finsh , I buy and restore and resell alot of guitar and ive used 3M on guitars to bring the finsh/gloss paint work back up to a high gloss, "

  • Ow nice!

  • I almost stoped watching the vid but its a good idea.

  • Man , you are really the guitar doctor , so much knowledge !

  • What happens if I have a neck with binding? protect the binding with tape?

  • or just dont buy a guitar with a gloss neck

  • ....Ill just use baby oil.

  • adhesive paper = tape

    abrasive pad = sand paper

  • @pigpen3085 i think it was pretty self explanatory anyway, but thanks

  • @pigpen3085 it isn't sandpaper, it's a scotch-brite pad (aka synthetic steel wool).

  • Top tip .. " regarding the resale value !" . Most guitarists would sooner have a fast satin/matt neck to a shiny slow sticky gloss neck , If anything the above would be an advantage to selling a guitar .. Give me a fast matt neck ANYDAY . Top tip and thanks for the info :-)

  • @Touyube36 Incorrect. Keeping a guitar as original will be best for resale but as others say, a guitar is to play and not for value. Besides you wouldn't do this on a reletively expensive or collectable guitar anyway.

  • @36hunters I can see where you are coming from but like you said your self " If you buy a guitar to look at " you have wasted your money , A guitar is for playing NOT for looking at and anything to improve your playing style can only be a good thing , Im not saying someone with a 1950s fender tele should sand the neck down but most of the modren guitar come with a nasty high gloss finsh on the neck ..This can make is feel sticky "For some people " Not all .

  • @36hunters You wouldn't Need to do it on a expensive or old guitar because they'll probably have a nicer gloss haha

  • @MrJuliorMedina That's probably true but sometimes even on nice guitars you can still get neck finishes you dislike.

  • There goes the re sale value!

  • @hampulator Play, don't collect.

  • @MAnderson110 True, I'm about to do it to a Fender 5 string jazz. It's got dings in it to boot, something needs to be done...this is it I think!

  • id rather sand the paint off and oil the neck. thats just more comfortable to me

  • くだらねぇ 練習しろ

  • AHBRAHSIVE!

  • This dude is nuts!

  • My name is Serge.....woo jew like a tweest uf laymon?

  • @check6ii I've seen that movie! Your comment made me laugh. :)

  • I just put a lot of greas on my guitar neck and man that is fast!!!

  • baby powder.

  • why don't you try practicing to be faster smh

  • @SaypheZonE why dont you try shutting the fuck up? smh

  • He's right! I paint cars and a fine sand and buffing makes the finish much slicker than leaving it untouched I would probably use #1500 or 2000 grit sandpaper instead of a scuff pad.

  • That's crazy.

    Try a little WD40

  • If you have a bolt-on neck, you can just buy an Ibanez Wizard III neck. Those are feeking fast !!!

  • How to make your guitar faster: Practice. Nothing beats this.

  • Brilliant !! half or more of the videos are someone talking about how they would do something. Yours actually shows how . !! But to make the back of a guitar neck less restrictive a little hand cream will do the trick and it won't change the finish. It may seem a bit girly for some of you tough guys but it works. Lip-balm is a good lubricant on tremelo bridge pieces , nuts, and string trees.

  • or u can just use the paper tape, which would emulate the similar effect and doesn't hurt ur guitar ...

  • the neck will become slow if your hand got sweat..

  • People do not do this, it will look dreadful, feel worse and not be faster ... simply polish the neck as much as you can.

  • You COULD just make your own guitar... oil the natural wood finish... looks great and you don't need to sand it - therfore no one has the right to troll ur video's and u still have a beautiful guitar! (Use the right oil and it's 10x faster than any kind of surface i've seen from a shop)

  • It literally pains me to watch this man hurt the guitar.

  • Ehhh fligio di una cagnaaaa....did I say it right?

  • "Polyester finish!" Ha!

  • oooooooohhhhh, he's saying ADHESIVE paper lol

  • Comment removed

  • @cesrin64 Abrasive, actually. :P I think

  • Fuck this

  • great way to increase the speed if u really need to but is there any other ways to increase the speed without causing the paint to dull like that? it kinda ruins a high gloss guitar look

  • @Blackbelt4UKTC Then again only you see it, anyone in front has no idea, trust me it really helps and is worth it

  • Genius.

  • There I was, thinking your hands had to be fast to play fast. What a fool I was.

  • @themodernguitarist because it encouraging other people to do this to their guitars and if its done incorrectly e.g to coarse grit used or you sand to much you could break through to the wood and cause the guitar to swell and get neck problems. i have nothing wrong with HIM doing it to HIS guitar but labelling a video "how to make a guitar 10x faster" is misleading and could cause people to ruin decent guitars

  • @andysguitarlab Frudua is one of the best luthier in Italy which have a centenary tradition of luthiers.....do you know Stradivari and the Cremona's school ??!! He has removed just a micro layer of laquer, so the neck is absolutly protected, when you sell your guitar it's enough to wash the neck accurately with water and soap, then buffing with a polishing cream.

  • I suppose you can't use sandpaper huh? haha

  • thanks..now i can fuck up my guitars the right way..what good is a guitar if u havnt dramatically decreased its value right? wow you my friend are a fucking idiot

  • @sexywhitedrummer Most people buy guitars to play them. Don't watch videos like this if you're only interested in their values and then troll the brilliant luthier who tries to help people out.

  • @VickVoltsRocks +1 fucking one. I can't stand it when people treat guitars like its money, and not an instrument.

  • cool video dude nice way to help move around the fretboard grazie, will you be doin more videos?

  • Grande Gale, era proprio il video che stavo cercando; grazie!!!!

  • The most famous guitar in the last century was built, tweaked & modified by it's owner and everyone knows it's sound. It's no "show car" guitar and most of you experts would refer to it as "a piece of junk."

  • You YOU TUBERS are so fuckin stupid with your childish comments! If you dont like the video then STOP WATCHING IT! The guitar belongs to him not you and if it helps him play faster then good. Most of you people cant play for shit anyway,so FUCK YOUR GUITARS.
