Sorry to say, but this is easily one of the worst renditions of Holst's Jupiter that I have ever heard. Typically, it is an inspiring piece with strong accents and feeling. With both a terribly-off tempo and a troubling lack of proper intonation, this orchestra disfigures the piece into sounding like an afterthought, rather than the climax of Holst's suite. As a longtime pianist and violinist myself, I do not underestimate the difficulties of performance...but this is severely lacking.
@Informer3X Yes i agree there is no pitch control in the brass section. This is the worst orchestra i've heard play this piece of great music. Plus its really slow and boring.
Yes, our planet has run into a problem. B.O. the worst president ever. NASA is now trying to make muslims feel better about themselves? WHAT the World?
Ok this is sweet, and dude... the guy named Dillon4bassoons I can tell you rock! Cuz bassoon is the best instrument ever... I play is.. and out of everything I play, it's the best.
Actually something interesting about that is that there is a split in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres where the pollution seems to "vanish." That's because the northern Hemisphere, with the most industrialized nations, produces more pollution than the Southern. The winds keep the pollution in the northern hemisphere, so that the southern hemisphere is actually quite a bit clearer than the northern.
Very nice, and the college orchestra did an exceptional job! That's not an easy movement to play, even for a professional orchestra! Too bad you couldn't put all of it on here! The ending is awesome!
"Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" is one of seven movements in "The Planets" suite by Gustav Holst. So yes technically yes its Jupiter but it is also part of the The Planets.
We're playing this piece for band. I love this song.

This piece actually inspired John Williams on scoring Star Wars and Hans Zimmer on scoring Gladiator. So I must say it's a classic for any composers.

Isn't that New Horizons, not Callisto?
Mosquitox216 2 years ago
Correct, it is the New Horizons space probe getting a gravity boost by Jupiter on its journey to Jupiter.

Great song, but perhaps this orchestra tackled a piece a little too challenging for their abilities.
