I'd love to have this, just as much as the Black Mesa mod for Half Life 2. Too bad both mods seem pretty dead, or at least comatized. Also started playing on realistic mode. I thought it was just a hard mode but they really worked on making it more realistic. You get killed very fast but so does the enemy, makes for an interesting game but you'll want to have save buttonmapped

@sobekflakmonkey I'm playing it right now as I'm typing this on Windows 7, without any problems. Go to Kentie.net and download the stuff you find there. It will make your graphics a lot better, e.g High-Res textures, AA, AF and DX 10. It will also fix many bugs and make it work on W7.

Cool, though I kind of wish everyone's nose wasn't so narrow (especially the MJ12 troops, because as an international organization I feel they should have a more "generic human" look).
I saw high res pictures of HDTP and it looks great. But why would you use a low res video to show off highres textures. I mean this is totally useless, since the textures are rendered back to video resolution! Why not HD 720p?
Get the demo of this (HDTP), the Ultra High Quality Mod and the New Vision textures pack and use them all together.
Deus Ex will look ten times better. My dual core 2GHZ computer can't handle it (FPS drops from 60 to 8 just walking around UNATCO) with the Ultra High Quality Mod enabled, but you can toggle it on and off so it's worth installing.
Only HDTP is changing the characters, though, so you have to wait for that.
It's a good effort and obviously a LOT of work has gone into it, but the character models just don't look right - Gunther looks small and scrawny, Anna looks like a monkey, and JC looks more like 63 than 23. I make sims for TS3 and have made good likenesses of the main characters' clothes by extracting the original texture files from DX and placing them onto the sim models, but the faces are much harder to get right, so I do sympathise with the problems involved!
mmm, I dunno, he looks a bit more weathered in HDTP, but he certainly looks more like he could kick your ass. Agreed he looks a little on the old side, but he is supposed to be a dark, cynical, old before his time character, what with his parents being killed, brutal training from a young age etc.
New JC looks very, very, veeeeeeeeery, awesome, but he also looks seriously too old, (plus a bit mean n' scary compared to the original model). I would certainly think he was handsome(SEXY) looking if I didn't keep getting thrown off by the older and nastier appearence he now has. :X

Too true my fellow fan - it seems that many fanatics of Deus Ex are more intellectual about the world as it is itself...we tend to question the boundaries of existence perhaps more than we should [or are told we should]...just as the storyline does...
They can't release it as is- redoing animations is actually completely necessary. The original had baked in animations, so to speak. They don't have skeletal animations, so they HAVE to redo them- they can't just set a default armature or anything, sadly. That means it takes a good bit of time.
Except for the Glock Pistol (which would be out of date by 50 years, given that the first Deus Ex is in the 2050's, I think this looks great! Deus Ex was ahead of its time, even without fancy-graphics, and the graphics are all anyone has ever had against it (idiots).
consider that the Colt M1911 is still one of the most popular firearms around and its almost 100 years old. the browning 50. cal machine is from 1020s and it is used by almost every military in the word. the Glock 17 and 18 pistols are some of the most reliable firearms on the planet, it has been quickly adopted by military organizations across the planet. to me, it makes sense.
@somehowsane Very true, I suppose. But the Glock is far from perfect. They have had extractor issues, specifically with the 9mm Glocks used by NYPD. Although claims state that they can fire 300,000, without breakdown, from a .40 S&W, there is insufficent evidence to back that up. Glock fans protect their guns with zeal, but when compared to the 1911, it is not as simplistic, and thus, not as reliable. (Not to mention, not nearly as modifiable, and lacking in firepower if chambered in 9mm).
@Xephisto Not to mention, the Glock is not nearly as reliable as a 1911 in most conditions. It *hasn't* been used by most militaries, in all honesty. It is more popular amongst Law Enforcement, all over the world, and in some small countries. Israel, and Austria are the two biggest on the list.

And is it just me or did they take everything that was good about Morrowind... and then throw it away, and make it more "console frendly".

Heh don't worry guys, there's nobody to animate these characters, so it's unlikely you'll ever see anybody but Gunther recreated. I believe the next version will have a check box you can click if you don't want to install the new character(s), so you can just play with the new weapons, decorations, and items.
The Gunther texture makes him look too...young, too agile, his face too round. In DX he looked like a walking tank, and he was suitably square. Here he looks like a skinhead with metal grafted to his head.
I wish people would ask for permission when piling stuff onto YouTube. I found my DX videos on here too. Which is alright cause I specifically said it was fine to re-distribute them.. but it'd be nice if people asked.

I'm conflicted about the rating for this video. Obviously I'm a great fan of the HDTP and the content they produce, but now that they've actually released the first version of their mod, it'd be nice to see some actual in-game footage in motion rather than a slide show. However, 4 stars for the awesome stuff depicted :D

i fear in this current phase of gaming where graphics are priority we wont see anything of the original Deus Ex's caliber for a long time. look what bethesda did to oblivion after the awsome morrowind.

Times change. Just because a games aren't the same as you remember, doesn't mean that they can't be good.(Not being rude or insulting). Imo, I don't give a damn for a compelling story as long as the game is fun to play. Might have something to do with the fact that I'm obsessed with a kids show...

Agreed my friend, We should hope that the third Deus Ex can make up for the lack-luster IW (Mediocre story with decent graphics and physics. Did not deserve Deus Ex title IMO). And is it just me or did they take everything that was good about Morrowind... and then throw it away, and make it more "console frendly".

Why are noobies so obsessed with glocks? They fuckin suck. A glock in this game would ruin it for me. Give me a man's pistol, not one of those girly pieces of crap. Lame...
I almost pissed my self laughing when I saw the picture of that giant scope on a GLOCK. HAHAHAHA!!!
Great work on everything else though, but I'm not downloading a texture pack that turns a great pistol into a glock... yuck. You should have just updated the existing pistol...

Its' not a glock its a Mako. And yes if You want You can add a scope to it....but lots of very cool gadgetry aswell, its Deus Ex...the future see? But obviously as I'm am replying to some hamfisted idiot that obviously didn't 'get' Deus Ex I won't waste My breath.

Im actually a huge deus ex fan and that looks nothing like the old pistol, and yes it looks 100% like a glock look it up guys..

All 3d models usually start out with arms extended like that. The arms won't be out like that in the game.

Yup. At this time when nexgen runing in, who is going to pay attention to good old deus ex? Afer all, there is second part already and someday will be third (see teaser trailer). I also was looking some forums to find out this, looks like the guys making mod dont think about continuing.

And "it's rumored".. rumors aren't facts. Duke Nukem Forever is also rumored of being released. All the time for many years now.

I'm replaying DX1. Gunther is terrorfying, Denton is kewl, and the guns have that 'recently manufactured' sheen to them.

Heh don't worry guys, there's nobody to animate these characters, so it's unlikely you'll ever see anybody but Gunther recreated. I believe the next version will have a check box you can click if you don't want to install the new character(s), so you can just play with the new weapons, decorations, and items.

The Gunther texture makes him look too...young, too agile, his face too round. In DX he looked like a walking tank, and he was suitably square. Here he looks like a skinhead with metal grafted to his head.

I'm conflicted about the rating for this video. Obviously I'm a great fan of the HDTP and the content they produce, but now that they've actually released the first version of their mod, it'd be nice to see some actual in-game footage in motion rather than a slide show. However, 4 stars for the awesome stuff depicted :D
