@viggoM35 not sure what album the song came from but yes it was Pantera and pulled it from a soundtrack I had. I have a Haynes manual as well thanks anyways but might have to hit you up on the motorrad if Haynes can't answer my questions. The PC fans are great idea I have a total of 6 in my computer not including the 2 for push/pull on my H50 cpu cooler they cool great their why not for a bike....lol
@thecamdriver I used to have a few tower desktop PCs for gaming, but now have a 17" Toshiba laptop for the portability. I still do computer repairs so I end up with spare parts from older machines. Fans are always recyclable. They seem to be the last thing to wear out. You can even pull them from failed power supplies.
I did find the radio wiring codes. Yellow = Left channel, Blue=Right. Red=Power, Brown=Ground. There is a Purple wire that refers to "R", that may be the constant power line for radio memory functions. I noticed that my bike has a small dial above the larger knob (headlight beam adjustment). That may be what the policed used to control the volume on the speakers, since the stock radio remote controls are removed.
@viggoM35 Great news that you found the wiring codes. I wish mine came with controls but it's not to hard to reach down and turn the volume down if needed.
I picked up the 03. It does have speakers but no radio (nor radio controls). I already have a stereo. I'm going to check the wiring and see if I can get it hooked up. For now I have a velcro mount for my MP3 player I listen too with headphones.
How do you control the radio when driving? I am thinking about getting a 2003 R1150RT-P that looks just like yours, color, etc... except it's a Police version with single seat. I understand that they upgraded it with a closer ratio 6 speed, alternator, and suspension. There is no radio, so I'll have to install one. I hope the wiring is easy to hook one up.
@viggoM35 Unfortunately I can not adjust stations while driving. I never hooked up a changer and my bike didn't come with one. My bike came with the wiring and the mount for a radio. I had to modified the bracket and wire for my current radio. It wasn't that hard. I'm looking to add just a usb / internal memory player for MP3. I did how ever find a site that's old but explains how to use a steering wheel control that could be worked into today's equipment.
@thecamdriver Yes, I had found it earlier doing a general search. I was actually looking for the wiring part (coming from the bike). My radio has a remote, though it's a wireless infra-red one. It has a CD that reads MP3 format and has a front input plug for a MP3 player. I can easily control the volume with the MP3 so that solves that problem. The MP3 player is a Phillips. I think it's better than an iPod nano since it's smaller, the battery lasts longer, more durable, and cost much less.
@viggoM35 ahh I see what you mean. Lucky for me mine was pre-wired and I just reviewed the wiring from old radio. Mine also came with a ir remote but once the door is closed the remote would not work. problem with portable MP3 players and my radio is the sound. For some reason the sound is quite lower than the receiver. I tried 3 different mp3 players including smart phones all worked but low sound. I'll be adding another quick vid. I put on a new 2 brother exhaust and ZTechnik's engine guards
@thecamdriver I know what you mean by the MP3 output to radio. But mine works fine. It has different EQ settings for mroe output. I think the iPOD Nano put out more power, so that might explain the shorter battery life.
When I get to the wiring, I'll take a multimeter to it to check for the proper wires. Maybe I can find the color codes from the manual as well.
@thecamdriver I had another idea. Since I would be using the "radio" for music, I may consider mounting a small amp in the glove box. That way I can use an audio input lead from the MP3 and attach the speaker to that. I small low output amp might be more cost effective and easier to wire in then a head unit (HU) stereo radio.
@thecamdriver What's nice about the PC cooling fans is that they draw low amps, designed to run off of a 12v source, and are very quiet. So multiple ones can be run if necessary.
By the way, thanks for the video. Is that the "Pantera: Cowboys from Hell" CD playing on your stereo???

@viggoM35 even small amps produce heat just keep that in mind it may get hot in there

@thecamdriver If I do that route, I'll drill some ventilation holes or maybe wire in an extra fan from computer parts I have.
